We can see why this site is so popular

Had a fantastic stay at Rowntree Park. It was our first time here and we met up with our Son and his Wife and the Grandchildren from Leicester and can see what everyone raves about with this site. The welcome from our Wardens was warm and friendly even though our booking was less than strait forward in some ways. The facilities were a credit to the wardens. Although it is not the most quiet and peaceful of sites, what does one expect from a site so close to a city centre and all amenities you could wish for. There is just so much to do for young and old, whether you are a shopper, or like us culture vultures, young or old you cant beat it. We will most certainly be going back..... As long as we can get booked in, that's one of this sites drawbacks, it is so popular.... Good luck

Great site. Clean with good facilities. As already stated, a ten minute walk in to York Centre by the river. If you go out of the back gate, there are plenty of shops, cafes/restaurants and you can also enter the city centre via this route. Excellent, hope to be back soon.

Cones

Stayed here a couple of times and site is bang on for York (not forgetting local Bishopthorpe Road) and has the facilities to back it up. I was just rather confused when a number of cones appeared on vacant and on our pitch before we left. Am I missing something?

First timers

Can't add any more than has already been written. We were finally luck enough to get booked in for 5 nights. The weekends unfortunately were full but just booked another site. Lovely friendly wardens who have booking in down to a fine art. You give your details to the one at the barrier, once through, you pick your pitch, then go to the office to pay. Great organisation. As at motorhomer we appreciate the new drainage system, with the long grate it makes emptying so much easier. Our dogs loved running at long the river walk, if you head right, when you leave the park and carry on over the millennium bridge, there's a wonderful park where the dogs can run free and chase their ball or Frisbee, otherwise they need to stay on their leads. We can't recommend it highly enough. That's if you can booked in......

Brilliant location 10min walk into centre of York. Staff friendly and efficient, the toilets and showers superb. Use back gate and 5min from supermarket, chip shop, takeaways and cake shops what more to you want. Not the prettiest of sites but as I said it's all about location.

5* Rowntree Park!

We have tried numerous times in the past to book in at Rowntree Park, York, but the campsite is always fully booked. Having finally managed to book a weekend there last weekend we can see why it is so popular! Upon arrival we were greeted by the warden who welcomed us by name and advised he had reserved us a specific pitch as our caravan is so big. He also said we were welcome to choose another if we preferred but the allocated one was a Great pitch, in the corner, right next to water/waste disposal etc, a very spacious pitch and lovely and quiet. Once sited, we went back to reception to settle our account and were greeted by the lovely, friendly wardens and their cute dog! Had a lovely chat with them and lots of fuss given to the pooch!! We ventured into York on Saturday, the location is perfect, literally a 5-10 min walk to the shops! We visited the York Castle Museum which was really interesting and great value, kids go free! We didn't use the toilet / shower facilities as we use our own but this must be one of the neatest, cleanest sites (both caravan club and independent) we have ever stayed at. Everything was perfect and we hope to return again soon (with dog treats next time!!) Thank you Rowntree Park for a wonderful weekend, we'll be back!!

Excellent

Not visited for a while, still as good. Great for visiting York, lots of places to see in walking distance. The railway museum is worth a visit. The shops accesed from the back gates are handy for food shopping. Site well looked after, wardens very friendly. The only down side is the fact that because of its popularity it is booked up well in advance. It is possible in winter to get a pitch in the week and only have to book up the day before which we prefer.
