first visit

Visited York Rowntree for 4 nights. A gem of a site . Clean very spacious pitches friendly wardens. Very close to York centre also very close to local shops cafés and restaurant's. This is our first visit but will definitely be returning. The departure time at 11.15 and arrival at 12 is a brilliant idea all sites should follow this ruling.

First time visit

This was our first visit to Rowntree Park - now we know what all the fuss is about! Clean and well managed by, what we consider to be, the most friendly wardens at the club. Located within easy walking distance of local cafes and shops and a 15 minute riverside walk to York for sightseeing or shopping. We loved it and will be keeping our eye out for any cancellations!

Great site but...

There can be no better base than this site for a visit to York. There is the usual 'Home from Home" feeling here as at most club locations. All facilities are spotless and well maintained. Access is a real bugbear as mentioned by other reviewers but, to be honest, that is the situation in every part of the city and once that is overcome and you are settled into your pitch, there is little reason to use the car until running the gauntlet of the early arrivals who, whatever they are told, will ignore the instructions. The team had a plan as we arrived (at 12.30!) and executed it to perfection. Well done! We encountered two problems during our visit - 1. In order to get wet and stay warm in the shower you will have to run-about. The water pressure is very low in the block, although the standpipe pressure is fine, pointing to an inadequate boiler. 2. The internet slows to a standstill and chucks you out of the network with monotonous regularity requiring endless logging-on, particularly in the evening. Both these issues are almost certainly exacerbated by the high occupancy levels on this site. However, that is a given. Everyone has priorities and personally, I would rather the club spent some of its wealth on attention to facilities than indulging in the huge expense of a rebranding exercise.

Great location but some minor problems

We have been coming here for many years and had to evacuate due to flooding more than once but still believe this is the best located site on the whole network. So easy to walk into the city or just out of the back gate to a great selection of local shops on Bishy road. Riverside walk good for the dog as is the park. The present wardens friendly and helpful and anyone reading the reviews will see the contrast with some predecessors. Unfortunately some members as mentioned in the two previous reviews are being completely unfair to the wardens and fellow members and arriving ridiculously early or leaving ridiculously late causing serious problems on the narrow access. One day we arrived back with shopping at 11.15 am to avoid a problem to find the access road blocked by two early arrivals in front of the barrier and could not get back until just before 12.00 noon. On Sunday morning we were woken by a noisy departure just after 4.30 am! Please don't spoil a great site by being unreasonable and giving the friendly wardens a real problem.

Good but noisy

Well kept site with friendly and helpful wardens. Location is excellent for walking into York centre and it's various attractions. Didn't realise that the rules for a quiet period overnight had changed. I'm sure there was no vehicle acccess or egress allowed between 23:00 and 07:00 before? Now the gates are open for entering and leaving the site 24 hours a day. This has turned it into a noisy site with vehicle movement as early as 04:30 when we stayed. Also as previous reviewer said there were people arriving from 11:30 when the earliest arrival is supposed to be 12:00. We arrived at 12:02 and were told that 25 units had already entered the site that day.

great site (but)

Just stayed for 6 nights begining of March.Great site great wardens well organised but I am sick of people turning up early to this site, do people not read to not turn up till 12.00 but they still turn up 20 mins early knowing the arrival time. The access to this site is tight and the entrance does not give much space for a Q. This is probably why they turn up early as they know the wardens cant turn them away as no where to turn around. Please stop arriving early wait till 12.00 and make the wardens job easier, you have a booked pitch so you will get one.Again more praise for the site and wardens.

Just perfect in every way!

This site is perfect in every way. Perfectly situated for a short riverside stroll into York's historic centre. Really quiet considering its proximity to houses. Great facilities. Very organised on arrival which is key here as it is a very busy site and is always full whatever the time of year. For a motorhomer who prefers to pitch up and walk this is one of the best club sites as too often they are sited a few miles from towns, villages etc., and with no other transport it can be a disadvantage.

A Great place to visit

Our first stay at Rowntree Park and it won't be the last. A short walk to the city centre with all that York has to offer. My wife and I really enjoyed our short break. The site is excellent with all amenities. The waste water emptying point for motorhomes is first class and so easy to use.
