Snow and Ice

Snow and ice did not prevent us having a good stay at this site, along with others we froze up but not enough to spoil our stay and our heating still worked! The conditions also stopped the large drill working on the adjacent building site although we'd taken precautions by parking our van as far away from it as possible and this proved to be a good move as we were very glad to use the warm clean facilities close to us. Many thanks to the wardens for keeping things going under difficult circumstances and also booking us in for a longer stay due to the weather. York was great as usual, very quiet due to the snow, which was a bonus so no queues to see things, lots of nice food, plenty of good coffee stops. Two goes in the new Jorvik centre using a free return ticket plus an easy walk around the Castle Museum and Railway Museum even if it was a trudge in the snow to get there, we did it and enjoyed it. smile

Great site and location

Stayed here last week, February half term(17/02 to 24/02), great location, factilities clean and what you would expect from a club site. Only about 5 other families there with children which was a bit of a shame but suspect its down to got being able to book on. We've tried for the last 3 years to get on when the kids are off school and this is our first success, maybe a change to the club rules for families in school holidays required?

Wonderful site, cannot fault it.

We have visited during winter the last 2 years. The site is very clean and the staff are very helpful. It is close to York centre and the variety of pubs and restaurants are excellent, not to mention the sites to visit, walls to circumnavigate. The staff were very helpful in assisting us to get a suitable pitch for our fifth wheel and guiding us onto the pitch.

Excellent site

Our first visit to this site . We were greeted by the wardens who were so welcoming and friendly the site is clean tidy well maintained and a credit to them. The site is well set out and just a short walk to the center of York and very handy for the Barbican . Toilets and showers spotless and lovely and warm . Looking forward to revisiting the site later in the year

Get rid of the keys

I can't say anything different re the site, the staff and the location but please get rid of the key system to the toilet block. I understand the reason for keeping the loo's locked but do we have to have such a dated system of using door keys. Twice during my stay a went to the loo only to have forgotten the key. Age and not being used to such a system. How annoying to either have to go back or wait for someone to come by and help. Also the cost must be sky high. 100 pitches x 2 keys and approx £5 and spares is well over £1000. What could be simpler the a key pad operated lock. 2 x £25. The code could be changed periodically by the warden. Other than that this is site is a credit to the wardens who appear to manage it with ease and yes I will return.

Recent Visit

Just returned after a 4 night stay. Its been over 3 years since our last visit mainly because of the sites popularity and our availability. Wardens warm and friendly. First noticed the changes, the site is much more open and light. The location is great just a short walk into York even with 3 large dogs. Can also recommend the Indian Restaurant (access from rear gate) we had takeaway because of the dogs. Although many places are dog friendly (can recommend Stonegate Yard in York itself) but its hard to find somewhere that will take 2 shepherds and a ridgeback and still have space for other customers. Plenty of outside seating in York when the weather is warmer. Didn't notice any noise from the building site next door. Hopefully we will return.

Very helpful staff & great location.

We booked for only four nights as this was our first visit to this site and we were not sure what it would be like. We really liked it and wished that we had booked for longer. We then had a phone call from the next place that we were going to say they were closed due to heavy snow. The staff at Rowntree Park were really helpful and extended our stay. We liked the fact that the site is really close to the city but is far enough away to feel tranquil. There is a back gate that leads to nearby shops and restaurants. The facility block is clean and modern. Our overall view of this site is summed up by the fact that we have booked to go back later this year.

Perfect

We booked just for two nights as we know York very well anyway. The site we had not stayed at before but was just perfect for visiting this superb City. There is plenty to do and see and the choice of restaurants is non ending. If you want to visit York stay at this site you will not be disappointed.
