Nice short break end of August.

Site was missed initially, Sat Nav takes you to an adjacent road with no access to the site, signage too low to be seen from a busy double roundabout. Site was well kept with many grass and hardstanding pitches. Tried to put up motorhome awning on hardstanding and although we have the correct pegs it was like concrete. Took it down and moved to grass pitch. Toilet block tired and needs a revamp or replacing. Last week of school holidays so children playing on bikes but no bother, just enjoying the safe freedom. Long walk to the bus top that runs every 30 mins, shorter walk to bus that runs 2 hourly, but did go to York and back twice. Overall, we would use the site again.

Good but too many buts

First impressions - approach signage is poor - missed the sign as its right on the junction and I was already in outside lane following satnav to postcode which ment a detour. Dogs - this may be noted but I didn't see it - you can't walk your dog offsite due to the stud farm next door. Facilities - toilets worn out Families - loads of them with a big play area - not the place for a quiet week away Pitches - one heavy rain shower and some pitches were flooding ours included - started drying out an hour after the rain but anything on the ground in the awning was soaked. Noise - kids on bikes till 10pm, chasing round the roads on bikes - 6 at a time. Aircraft low overhead very often Other than that a good base for the area

Fantastic week at this great site

We stayed for a week at this site with our 4 children and dog and were a little bit dubious about it after reading some of the reviews. However do not let them put you off, this is a great site with fantastic facilities for the children who spent hours in the park and the adjoining ball field, which is an amazing space for them to go wild in!! The dog walk is also lovely and our black lab thoroughly enjoyed herself meeting new friends as well!! Now onto the much slated shower/toilet facilities. Yes, in truth, they are in need of some modernisation and yes, considering the size of the site, there could probably be a few more showers however, we found them to be perfectly adequate and always spotlessly clean. In fact I did not have to queue for a shower once during our stay! The wardens were also extremely welcoming and friendly. The site is well placed for exploring York and the surrounding area and is only a 5 minute drive from one of the Park and Rides into the city. We used this both times we went in, it was quick, efficient and great value for money (only £2.90 per adult with under 16s free). All-in-all, we had a great week there and would definitely recommend it.

Sadly let down by the club.

On arrival the site sign is a wooden sandwich board low on the ground at the side of a busy roundabout, so we missed seeing that so added a 1 mile trip to turn around at the next roundabout. The staff are very helpful and do a great job. Sadly the club sees that it's better to spend money on new name and i.age but leaves this busy site with a shower block with broken/missing tiles in nearly all showers. The showers are grubby with age and the cubicles are small. As it's a busy site and with many foreign visitors it's not a good image for the club but the CAMHC new ice cream club signs are new. The club needs to get off it's backside and support it's wardens struggling with a very tired amenities block.

We loved our stay

We stayed at the site for a week and loved it. The facilities for children are excellent and our two children had a fantastic week. The wardens were extremely helpful and friendly, especially when we arrived on site and one of the wardens went out of his way to help us with our awning. York is a beautiful city and Beechwood is fantastic in all respects; we will visit again soon.

Back to Yorkshire

We haven't been back to Yorkshire for 25 years. We had intented to go further North but the weather let us down. Still York is a great place to be with much to do in bad weather. The site is, as all Club, sites clean and tidy and functional. There is a great dog area and playground. There is a little road noise from the nearby A64 but not too intrusive. I wouldn't bother with the internet. It is 2.50 a day with appallingly slow speed. Speed tests were unable to record a download speed at all. Stick to your phone. The single toilet block could be improved given the number of pitches. The onsite staff were brilliant and very helpful at all times. Best pub meal was the Blacksmith's Arms in Westow. Note there are about 4 Blacksmith's arms within a short distance so choose the right one!

Another wonderful break

We have returned following another wonderful break at York Beechwood Grange. The wardens are so friendly and helpful, they are like family. The site is very well kept and the information hut always well stocked with advice and places of interest and eateries. There is a bus at the end of the drive near the Toby Inn which takes you into York where there is so much to see and do, one visit is not enough.

First time visit

Having previously stayed on the Rowntree Park site, we thought we would try the York Beechwood site. We set off on the wrong foot however, as we could not see the caravan club sign from our vehicle. Its a small sign, and is actually on the floor at the roundabout you turn off to access the site. We got there eventually, and while in the reception, were told that staff "spend an inordinate amount of time on the telephone, explaining and guiding people to the site". (not just us then). After we got settled in, we thoroughly enjoyed the site, very helpful staff, large pitches, clean facilities. While we were there we saw crows, robin's, squirrels and a cloud of bats, which seemed to live nearby, and each evening at dusk, flew to a particular tree on the site. We took advantage of all the facilities within a short distance of the site, and enjoyed our lovely days out. All in all, excellent , well placed site, and we will certainly visit again.
