Back to Yorkshire

We haven't been back to Yorkshire for 25 years. We had intented to go further North but the weather let us down. Still York is a great place to be with much to do in bad weather. The site is, as all Club, sites clean and tidy and functional. There is a great dog area and playground. There is a little road noise from the nearby A64 but not too intrusive. I wouldn't bother with the internet. It is 2.50 a day with appallingly slow speed. Speed tests were unable to record a download speed at all. Stick to your phone. The single toilet block could be improved given the number of pitches. The onsite staff were brilliant and very helpful at all times. Best pub meal was the Blacksmith's Arms in Westow. Note there are about 4 Blacksmith's arms within a short distance so choose the right one!

Another wonderful break

We have returned following another wonderful break at York Beechwood Grange. The wardens are so friendly and helpful, they are like family. The site is very well kept and the information hut always well stocked with advice and places of interest and eateries. There is a bus at the end of the drive near the Toby Inn which takes you into York where there is so much to see and do, one visit is not enough.

First time visit

Having previously stayed on the Rowntree Park site, we thought we would try the York Beechwood site. We set off on the wrong foot however, as we could not see the caravan club sign from our vehicle. Its a small sign, and is actually on the floor at the roundabout you turn off to access the site. We got there eventually, and while in the reception, were told that staff "spend an inordinate amount of time on the telephone, explaining and guiding people to the site". (not just us then). After we got settled in, we thoroughly enjoyed the site, very helpful staff, large pitches, clean facilities. While we were there we saw crows, robin's, squirrels and a cloud of bats, which seemed to live nearby, and each evening at dusk, flew to a particular tree on the site. We took advantage of all the facilities within a short distance of the site, and enjoyed our lovely days out. All in all, excellent , well placed site, and we will certainly visit again.

Pleasurable recent holiday

We have been to this site several times in the past but not in the past 4-5 years. It had started to look a little tired with weeds on hard standing and untrimmed hedges and a rather abrupt warden. However, having just returned from a short stay what a pleasant surprise. The standard and care of the site is excellent with friendly and pleasant wardens who were working very hard on their own without assistant wardens. Despite this always open to a pleasant chat and bit of humor. This site is extremely well located for a run to the coast or into York where there are many superb attractions. Well done and thank you to the wardens on site.

If you have a dog you cannot leave this site on foot

Usual high standards of cleanliness with efficient and polite staff. Good secure dog walk on site. Easy transport links to York Generous pitches However the main downfall is the fact that if you have a dog you cannot leave this site on foot. This is because access to the site is via a private driveway and the landowner has suffered with irresponsible dog owners allowing their pets to chase and in some cases kill his livestock and has now banned them from being walked along this route. I am sure the Caravan Club could do more to resolve this issue - installing a better fence would be a start, educating dog owners is not so easy but as with most things in life the majority suffer due to the actions of the minority. Don't let this put you off visiting this lovely site

ideal location

site is in an ideal location with shopping centre within 1 mile, park & ride at Monks Cross. Visited this site many times , different wardens but still the friendly welcome from all the staff. My only concern would be the tired looking toilet block which is in need of a makeover. Otherwise brilliant site.

An excellent location

The site staff were very friendly and helpful. I thought that the washroom facilities possibly needed a bit of modernisation. But the location is perfect for visiting York and surrounding area. A short walk down to Monks Cross park and ride is ideal for getting in and out of the city. My only complaint is the wifi, or non existence of it. The club guide does state that it is Bronze standard and although I understand that is likely to be weak, there should be some access. I select a site on the understanding that I can get a WiFi signal, but it was virtually impossible on this occasion.

Trailer Tenters

This is our third stay on a club site in our trailer tent and the best yet. The site is just so peaceful and so well located to main roads and shops etc (with exceptionally cheap fuel at the local supermarket). We found the toilet/shower facilities always spotless, plenty of hot water and powerful showers. The pitches are well layed out and the driveway into the site has horses and foals on each side. We didn't have much to do with the wardens but they seemed very pleasant and happy to help. Will definitely be returning in the future. Thanks
