Relaxing visit to North Berwick.

Visited this site in June’21 Friendly welcome to this near- beachside site. Selected grass pitch however the grass had turned to clay. Fortunately we were not expecting rain. Really needed some local maintenance. Facilities were spotless and centrally located. Dog walk off site was excellent and off lead, but was located in what seemed to be a potential over flow car park for beach. This may be problem in the high summer. Ideal site location for us to visit family that we hadn’t seen for a very long while.

Absolutely fantastic site.

Absolutely fantastic site, and only 10 mins walk to Yellowcraig beach and 1 hour walk to North Berwick. Staff at the site are brilliant , nothing was a problem . Clean, tidy, clean, tidy. Should not say too much, in case the site gets too popular!!!!

Seashore is now spoiled by illegal campers

Yellowcraig caravan site is near the beach and it is one of the most spectacular in Scotland with a sandy bay, rocks and offshore islands. Unfortunately the car park is now being used by illegal campers on the beach. It has a tap, toilets and shower making it perfect for illegal campers. The beach had almost twenty large tents and people were sitting with fires, chairs, barbecue equipment and loud music. Apparently this happened last year and the East Lothian Rangers are turning a blind eye to this desecration, despite telling the newspapers that campers will be moved off. What a shame...

Wonderful Site

Wonderful site in beautiful location next to a nature reserve. Just a 10-minute walk through the dunes to a large sandy beach. Site divided into lots of small areas so didn’t seem too big or crowded. Lots of coastal shrubs, birds & rabbits all around site. Lovely walks from site into North Berwick or to Dirlton & beyond. Dirlton Castle worth a visit. We were very impressed by North Berwick. Lots of nice shops & eateries. Well worth a walk to the top of The Law. Only negatives were that there was no tv reception & no phone signal (Vodafone) so couldn’t get internet. Site internet by reception very slow. Also, although we appreciate that Covid restrictions necessary it seemed a bit over the top only having one washing up sink when there could have been more as outside with sufficient spacing. Long queues resulted. Hopefully, this will not be a problem for much longer.

Lack of care spoils a great site

This is a truly special site so it’s a pity that during a recent visit we noted issues that could have been addressed and should have been addressed when the site was close due to COVID The hose pipe for the toilet waste area leaked and wasn’t long enough to properly clean the bowl The hose pipe on the dog wash also leaked The water pressure is abysmal for such a large and popular site To top it all the containers at the water point / waste area areas to sanitise hands ( due to COVID) were either empty or simply not working The wardens were not particularly friendly and seemed to spend most of their time cutting the grass

Fully de-stressed

Having booked this site for the first time what seems like a life time ago it was well worth the wait. The site and the wardens were all brilliant, check in was easy and covid safe, we were limited to a choice of 4 pitches as this site seems to run at full capacity most of the time and I can fully understand why now, to save us driving around the site the warden pointed out the available pitches and we drove to pitch 53 which did us nicely. Fantastic beach and country side walking on your doorstep, walks into North Berwick and Dirleton are within easy reach either on the beach or the John Muir way. I cannot comment on the facilities as we did not use them, but I would like to guess they would be to the same high standard hence the score. Just one thing left to say, Thankyou and yes we will definitely be returning as we have already booked, Even the 4.5 hour drive is not enough to spoil the enjoyment.

Three night stay in East Lothian

Hadn’t been to site before. What a great place. So quiet in the middle of stunning countryside an near a beautiful beach. Site is very clean well organised and well kept. Can’t fault the site. Only issue toilet and facility wise is that other people just went getting the band system. Lost count how many times when looking for a band to put on hook they were gone. Then minutes later out someone comes with the band in hand. Then there’s the people who I think choose to ignore a proven system. Not the sites fault. Site sits in glorious countryside. Great for dogs. If you’re a golfer you will do appreciate the place. Archerfield on one side and North Berwick links on the other. You can walk by this on the substantial walk into North Berwick. It’s a hike there so be warned if you decide to walk it. Also beach and forest walks aplenty. Also great for cycling around too. Gullane isn’t far either and a beautiful wee town. Also nice wee pub in Dirleton the Castle Inn. Great food beer and service. It’s a mile and a bit to walk to it along the John Muir Way. This walk way passes by site and is a brilliant walk in both directions. All in all a tremendous site and we will certainly return.

Rural location

I liked all the different areas on this spacious campsite which is in a rural location within walking distance to the sea and a 3 mile walk to North Berwick. It would have been helpful however, if on arrival the few pitches left had been marked out on the site map as I did have difficulty finding what was available.

peaceful post lockdown break

lovely peaceful friendly site, friendly helpful staff. ideally located for us in the furry friend fraternity or even those who like a walk or a beach without a dog?? Beach area can be quite busy at weekends etc. Handy site for North Berwick Don't believe your mobile providers coverage checker 3/4G is patchy/ poor we did manage to stream to 4G laptop one day but any kind of signal on other mobile devices was intermittent, some kind of external 4G antennae might help with this as there obviously is 3/4G in the area at times

Amazingly Helpful Warden Gary.

We were due to arrive at our favourite site (YellowCraig) around 5pm on a Thursday evening 29th April. My hubby is self employed and things never seem to go according to plan when we are to go away in the caravan, added to this I am a Nurse and Nurses never get off on time! Thus the stars aligned to wreak havoc and after a very stressful & tiring day, we set off much later than anticipated. Gary had already rung my hubby to check we were still arriving and told him not to hurry and to drive safely. A lovely thing to do. He must have been sufficiently concerned, as he then rang my mobile and said it was not a problem if we wanted to put our arrival off until the Friday morning, by this time we were in the car and hoping to just beat the 8pm deadline. Fat chance! We arrived in the pouring rain at 20.50 and immediately went onto late night arrivals. Now as anyone who knows YellowCraig will be aware, the late night arrivals has no electric. Something that is incredibly inconvenient, when you just need a cuppa or a snack after a stressful journey and some light to feed our 4 Labradors! Without any hesitation, Gary came across and asked my hubby to give him the electric cable which he duly plugged into his socket, giving us access to light, heating and cooking. Gary went out of his way in an absolute downpour to come out of his warm caravan to ensure we had some comfort. We’ve met a number of good Wardens, but not many who go out of their way to ensure members are looked after with such care and concern. He continued in this vein, when I had to change our summer holiday due to planned hospital appointments. It appeared that we may have to book elsewhere as there was no availability- not a problem for Gary who listened to my problem and without further ado, came up with a solution. It’s not just the fact that Gary does what he does, which in itself makes him rather special, its also the manner in which he does it and the the obvious care and concern he demonstrates while delivering a first class service to members like us. WELL DONE GARY AND THANK YOU SO MUCH. Without people like you who go the extra mile the Caravan Club would quite literally crumble. You and like minded Wardens are the Clubs bedrock. We shall be back to our favourite site soon and hopefully will not be the guest of “Late Night Arrivals!” Grateful thanks, Helen & David Stephenson.
