Nice quiet site but Metermacs application was almost unuseable

We stayed at Wyatts Covert last weekend (we travelled into London to go to the Theatre). It is a short walk to Denham Station (20 mins or so) with easy access to London on the train (2 stops into Marylebone) which makes it an ideal location. The site is quiet despite being in close proximity to the M40/A40/M25 and the ongoing HS2 works (be aware that some of the footpaths have been closed due to HS2). The real issue was Metermacs. Firstly we couldn't see our bollard on the application and this was due to the breaker being disabled. I reset it and it took some time before the Metermac application picked it up and we were able to connect. Secondly the Metermacs user interface is not very good and is very slow to respond at times. If charging in this way is to continue then they need to improve significantly and even consider developing a mobile APP as well. I also felt that the price charged for the electricity was high but there are other threads and comments on this. So overall, a good site, only ruined slighty by Metermacs.

Good Site BUT we will not be returning while Electricity Metering remains in force

The site is in a good location for access to the motorway network, It is clean, tidy and well maintained. However this was our first encounter with metered electricity and it ruined our break. The instructions for use are not vey clear and the metering website is slow, clunky and unreliable. Worse than that, the cost is astronomical. For a £5 per night reduction we averaged a £13 per night spend. The unit rate is 45p per kWhr compared to the 29p national average - thats 55% uplift - somebody is making a killing and I suspect it’s not the Club!! Also if like us, you do not use the site toilets and showers we are effectively paying twice for our hot water - once through the site fee and again through the metering charges. If this rolls out across the CAMC we will be giving careful consideration to whether we should renew membership. DONT discount the Pitch fees, add £5 to them and leave things alone. ps I have no problem with the “no electricity” discount scheme.

Electric Costly Faff but location great

Location for London touring excellent. Coming from Wales it is easy to get to this site, (just ignore Sat Nav in the last couple of miles where it tries to turn you onto Tilehouse lane too soon, and carry on to Denham Green Lane from where you turn right onto Tilehurst lane nearer tot he site, as advised). Train from Denham Station to London, seems fast and efficient / on time. Trains mostly half hourly until later times when becomes hourly. About 35 minutes or so to get into Marylebone. So ideal for touring London. (Albeit late at night the trains are hourly from Marylebone!). The only faff element is this prepaying for the electric nonsense. The electric prepay app could not handle a change of debit card to make a second payment. We had to get help to log in to set up the account initially, staff v. helpful but a faff for everyone including them. However the card I used for the first prepayment of electric was subsequently cancelled by bank due to me inadvertently linking to a dodgy train booking site (I had to decline the dodgy payment, so card cancelled by bank). This meant for 2nd prepayment, I had to change card on the App. The App was not friendly in this respect as it does not seem set up to 'easily' allow a change of card. It defaults you back to the card you set it up with. Tried several times with about five different cards as it would not let me key in the full card details and then with half the info only allowed, it declined each card. I could not work out whether the issue was loss of signal or a problem with the App not accepting a new card. By the time got back to site, after 8 pm, all the Staff could suggest was 'switching to gas'. Fortunately we did eventually manage to get another card accepted and to make the second prepayment. So the prepayment app is not intuitive, not relaxing and not user friendly if you need to alter your payment card between payments. Also cost seems high - about £8-£10 a day even with being cautious about electric usage. £45 for 5 nights. I would rather just pay a pitch fee and not have all this faff about the electric being paid separately. Next time I will bring my own generator as a back-up as being about to be cut off was very unsettling. Be ready to go back to no EHU and gas only on this site!

3rd stay, still love it!

It's a beautifully kept site, the facilities are lovely and the site is handy for everything I need it for. It's a perfect base with a train station about a mile away for trains in to London etc. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it, the staff are so friendly and helpful too.

Great location

This was our second stay and equally good, the electric metering system is good once you’ve done it a couple of times but feel it could be off putting to people without a smart phone, other than that it’s great

FANTASTIC SITE & LOCATION

Such a lovely site which we visit regularly as and when we can . The site and location is superb . It’s next to a flying school so you see helicopters & planes taking off & landing - we love it ✈️ plus you do get to see Heathrow planes ✈️ We were very pleased to meet the new Wardens Katie & Ash , such a lovely couple very welcoming , warm , friendly and very helpful. Thank you both 😊 So much to see & visit front the site with very good walking opportunities. We love it here and it’s always nice to meet some likeminded friendly motorhomers & caravaners . May this club site cherish for ever ❤️ BOB & JO

Wyatts Covert. Enjoyed our few days while in the area to meet up with local friends.

Received a great welcome from the wardens at Wyatts Covert. The site is clean and tidy and conveniently located for train travel to London. Facilities were clean but not all WCs in the ladies were in use. There was a service point with no fresh water - apparently waiting for a plumber to fix these issues. The site was fairly noisy from the nearby airfield and there was a heavy smell of aviation fuel on occasions. We enjoyed visits to The Crew Room for light refreshments at Dunham Airfield and The Swan in Denham was good. The nearby woods were handy for dog walking. The site did seem to have workers staying. There were single occupancy units with people driving offsite early and returning early evening Were they working on HS2 or possibly the film studios nearby? This did not both us but did seem a little unusual on a club site.

Wyatts Covert

First of all the site, small only about 50 pitches, but many arrivals and departures over the two days there.I arrived with no issues, just followed instructions on the Club web site, but a couple of caravanners decided on finding there own way there and either arrived via the narrow Tilehouse lane ,or having to reverse because of road closures. Now the elephant in the room, the some of the helicopter noise,is apparently are for pilot training, which hovers for at least 10 minutes at a time, then practising landing and taking off,the normal helicopters and small planes are not too bad. There is a lovely walk next door to the site, also the cafe on the airport is entertaining with the helicopters practising. This is the nominated Club Site for the Smart electricity programme. Downloading the Smartmetering form and crediting your account, does make it stress free, however I found the site reduction fee did not cover the amount of electricity used.

This site is o.k. if you like the sound of helicopters all day.

Visited for the fourth time over the last 15 years or so, but noticed a pronounced increase in aircraft noise levels this time. Very importantly members must be discouraged from approaching the site from either end of Tilehouse Lane and only use Denham Green Lane both solo and on tow. We followed a motorcaravan the size of a dustcart along Tilehouse Lane from the south. We were solo but the motorcaravan scraped a local young ladies car and blocked the lane for everyone for about 15 minutes. When we asked the driver why he had not followed the sites guide directions ,he said he was following the sat nav. This kind of behaviour will quickly antagonise local residents. The Wardens, Katie and Ash were lovely and helpful and worked very late when a motorcaravan arrived leaking diesel everywhere!!! The site access even up Denham Green Lane is quite uneven and difficult with parked residents cars. During our stay, one out of three Male w.cs was out of use as well as the hand drier, and two out of four female w.cs likewise. Also one drinking water tap was out of use. One aspect of club sites we had not noticed before, was the loud noise that motorcaravan and camper sliding doors make upon closing. This is not a problem in the day, but much more so at all hours in the middle of the night. We found the metering system worked well despite our misgivings prior to arrival This site is close to both rail and tube access to London. The aircraft noise will probably preclude our return to this site.

Great time at Wyatts Covert

Fantastically placed for many of the places and attractions around d London. We have used this site twice in the last 3 months and both times we have had a good stay in this very well kept site. It is next to Denham airfield and, as the weather was good there was lots of activity - not something that I minded. Unusually there were a few departures in the early hours which we were disturbed by. Great walks through the nearby woods were enjoyed by us and our dogs. Definitely going to visit again as it is a lovely place with friendly, welcoming and very helpful staff. Shops and petrol station are quite close by. So much to like.
