Wyatts Covert is a well placed site, albeit next to an aerodrome, so the buzz of small planes and helicopters is present almost all day every day during daylight hours. It is perfectly situated just off the M40, and for my reason for staying, to be close to Harefield Hospital to be close to my loved one. The sites has exceptional wardens who are very helpful and friendly and keep the facilities and site to a superb standard. The site is a fully metered for EHU, and the website is still very confusing, after the second time of booking, stating the normal with or without awning pitches, but if you select a 'metered' pitch they are always all FULL, but you can select a non metered pitch and there is availability, yet there is only metered pitches on the site??!!??
The Metermacs web browser that you have to use is VERY slow to work and quite frustrating. It seems to be quite expensive too. I have been on the site for a week and a half and have used a full bottle of gas that was purchased for this trip (used for heating and cooking) and topped the electric up by £35. the heating is only on for an hour in the morning and 3 hours in the evening. So far for energy only, the total outlay has been £77 (£32 for a new gas bottle and £35 for electricity top up, £9 remaining as I type). The CAMC state that by using metered supplies, you only pay for what you use, fine, but it states that it allows them to offer lower pitch fees. When checking October dates, there is only £2 pitch cost per night between Wyatts Covert and Commons Wood. The expensive energy and faff from the barely responsive Metermacs web interface makes me question staying on here in future, which hopefully I will not need to.
CAMC, please clarify on the website the pitch selection and if the metermacs solution is rolled out nationwide, might have to find another club to join.
A lovely little site in a quiet area all be it lots of planes and Helicopters (which I loved). The facilities are nice and clean and the site was very well kept. Some people have commented on the electric being a bit of a faff but we found it fine. If you pre-plan your trip and download the app, there should be no problem. It will only be a matter of time before all sites will have a system like this so if people get used to it now, there should be no problems in the future.
We arrived at Wyatts to a warm welcome from reception. We booked this site in order to visit the Harry Potter experience, and for this it was a perfect location. As always the site cleanliness and facilities were excellent. However, the noise from the adjacent airfield was extremely intrusive especially from the helicopters. Also, you have no choice but to use Metermacs on this site which proved much too slow to use. You cannot set it up until you actually know what pitch number you are going on! After a long tiring journey all you want to do is plug in and get set up. If electricity meter only has to be used on a site, then the pitch fee should be lower than we paid at over £30 a night. We would not choose to use a site again that had meter only pitches, and would seriously consider not using Caravan club sites if they switch to meter only pitches. With regards Road ahead closed sign, as mentioned in other reviews, a sign informing members that access to the site is still possible is needed.
We've stayed at this site before and it is well kept, clean, tidy and the wardens are friendly and helpful. There can be some noise from the small airfield across the road but given the proximity to the M40/M25 and London via Denham Station into Marylebone (22 mins if you catch the fast service), it is ideal if you are planning trips into London.
There are also some nice Pubs and an Italian Restaurant in Denham which are reasonably priced given the location.
My one issue remains to be Metermacs. I have no objection to paying for the electricity I use but the web interface is slow. This needs to be improved if this is to be rolled out across other sites (and would be better if an App were available). That said a refund was issued quickly once we left.
We stayed here at the end of July 2024 to make a trip for an event to Wembley Stadium. This is a perfect site to get both to Wembley and into central London. It's an easy 30 min off road walk to the station and then the trains are very frequent and take 10 mins and 20 mins respectively. They run late into the night too - just take a torch for the last half mile back, although there is a lot of parking at the station too.
As for the site, it is great. It's next to a nature reserve so you really feel like you are in the country. Yes the small planes and helicopters at the air field next door during the day could be intrusive for some, but at night this was one of the quietest sites we've stayed at. There's loads of wildlife so we could hear owls and our first every bullfrog, and see bats swooping around. It was magical.
The electricity trial worked no problem at all and the reception team have a really helpful QR code plus alternative means of accessing the website should you have any problem with your own device. The cost is incredibly reasonably - ok it was a warm weekend in July but we spent a grand total of 55 pence for the night on power and our refund came through no problem at all.
The site is also incredibly easy to reach from the M40 and M25 and you are not aware at all of how close those major routes are. We've tried the other London sites and for convenience and access this is our favourite.
Location great - easy to get to from the M40/M25, and ideal to walk or drive to Denham Station for train to Marylebone and then connections to all areas of London. The 10.18 train is the first off-peak and then it is off-peak for the rest of the day. Electricity worked well once we had sorted the password - we had pre-loaded the app but did not realise that the password required is that used to get on to the Caravan Club internet site, not one for the meter company. We were at the site for 5 nights - put £15 on the meter and used £12 - it was quite chilly and we had the heating on for 2 evenings - over payment easily refunded. The only drawback to the site was the noise - a road and a public path ran behind our pitch, which we did not realise (not shown on site plan) until we had pitched and were too tired to move. Then the helicopters on the adjacent airfield revved their engines for 10 minutes before they took off and then circled round and round. Overall the convenience out weighed the noise, and we will probably use the site again, but will pitch further away from the road, though that will not reduce the helicopter noise.
I diligently followed the published directions, totally ignored the SatNav, what could go wrong? The road goes down to single lane - but long before you reach this point there are ROAD AHEAD CLOSED signs. On arrival I asked if the warden was aware of the signs - "Oh those have been there for weeks. You should always check the website before travelling" - I didn't and guess what when I did, not a word about the signs.
Plenty of warning about the new electric system but not one word about the ROAD AHEAD CLOSED signs.
It is a busy lane, we pulled over and the guy behind us kindly gave us directions. The twin axle caravan advertised our intended destination.
The site itself is fine - I am giving low marks in the hope this stands out and helps people get there without a cardiac arrest.
The last place to pass with a big rig is the airport entrance, after that it is just down the hill on the right. There are a couple of small passing places for cars.
Just 10 minutes off junction 1 of the M40, this was the perfect base for us to have a long weekend exploring London.
We arrived about 2pm on Friday, booked in and were allocated a pitch - fine for us as it takes away all the driving around searching for the perfect pitch..!
We had pre-registered on the MeterMac website and put £10 on to see how we got on. Once there we told MeterMac which pitch we were on and away it went - it's currently charging 26p per kWh, which is as good as we get at home. By the time we left on Monday, we had used just £3.36 of electric. Admittedly, it was a warm weekend and we didn't need to use the heating. We were also conscious of switching things off - no bad thing..! The balance refund was simple to arrange and should be back with us in 3-5 days.
The site is next to a small airfield and there is some noise from helicopters and light planes which take off and land most of the day. As we were using the site as a base for days out, it really didn't bother us.
Denham railway station is just 1.5miles away and costs £4.50 to leave the car there all day. The car park is quite big and was practically empty when we were there. This might be different if there is a big match or concert on at Wembley. The train journey to London Marylebone took just 20 minutes.
Overall we had a really excellent long weekend - we went into London on both the Saturday and Sunday. This site enabled us to stay for 3 nights at a drastically cheaper rate than staying in a hotel in London and we had the added benefit of sleeping in our own bed...
We would highly recommend this site as a base for London and we will be back again as there is so much more we can do.
Definitely not a peaceful or quiet site, being next to a well used air field with helicoptors and prop airplanes making noise and aviation fuel smells 9am - 8pm.
On the plus side, its a great location for visiting the area. 30 mins drive south to Thorpe Park, another 20 mins to Hampton Court Palace from there after dropping the kids!
Wardens very helpful, which was important because the metering system failed to activate for us and was out of action for our first night's stay, back the next day.
Facilities spotlessly clean and well maintained.
In the week we stayed we saw a lot of solo campers in regular vans (no EHU or water), leaving early we assume for work rather than leisure. Not a problem but doesn't make the place feel suitable for families with children.
The warden was helpful and friendly, the site was clean and safe with a good wash-block and it's convenient to walk to Denham station (1 1/2 miles) for a 22 minute train to Marylebone.
However they are trialing an alternative power supply whereby you now have to register with an on-line third party electricity supply company, make a prepayment, and at the end of your stay they refund any overpayment. All sounds OK but it is a real pain as the website is very slow, kept freezing, and the main problem is the cost of the electricity which is extortionate at 47p per kWh whereas at home we are paying 26p per kWh; so almost twice the price for the electricity. The site is expensive at £33 per night but the cost for the first days electricity was an additional £12 even though the warden advised us to budget £7 per day which is probably an annual average.
Not having electricity included in the cost of the site also means you have to check the App regularly to make sure you have enough money on the meter so your electricity isn't cut off which adds stress to your stay. If this system is rolled out across all sites it will definitely put us off using them.
