Halloween 2015

We stayed for 4 nights over the Halloween weekend. We love this site, lovely walks and location. We paid for day passes for Long ashes leisure facilities, we would recommend this for families of weather not good. The wardens at Wharfedale put on Halloween competitions and games. The children(and adults!) loved it. Lovely friendly atmosphere, well done to all concerned. We will be back soon ??

Helpful and friendly wardens

Enjoyed a four night stay here and loved the walks from the site with our dog. We enjoyed a great meal at the Gamekeepers Inn a five minute walk away. Also able to watch the rugby in there on Saturday which was an unexpected bonus! The children loved the Halloween activities and competitions that the wardens hosted. A lot of effort by them to make it enjoyable for all ages of children. Thank you.

Brilliant first caravan trip!

We have just bought our first van and wanted to stay close to home for our first trip. The site was superb and the staff really helpful. The on-site team put on some great Halloween fun for the kids and families to enjoy and we will certainly be returning at some point in the future. Thanks!!

Friendly one night stay

We managed to get away for a quick one night stay last weekend and selected this site as it was within an hour of home. The walking in the area is fantastic, the site shop sells OS maps and the friendly wardens were happy to spend time recommending walks that could be taken from the site. This was our first visit but we shall return again and next time for a longer stay.

Stilts and Stepladders

Our 4th visit to Wharfedale, (mid October) one of our favourite sites, no more so for it's vast countryside walks and friendly locals. I never like to say anything negative because the nature of caravanning being a lifestyle choice without the need necessarily for technology and to relax and just unwind but I have had issues this past week with radio signal being extremely poor on site and also 'Orange' mobile network being extinct or at least on pitch 22 it was. Pitch 22, my main issue, we like hard standing and all pitches are of generous proportions and well kept at Wharfedale, however, if you decide on pitch 22, with a twin axle be prepared to have the rear end of van on the floor and the front end up on blocks. Our wheels were firmly on the floor but the slope was excessive and not seen quite by the eye until you have started levelling. We could have moved but pig headed determination from hubby took over and he was going to level the van on this pitch if it killed him. I did struggle a little to get in and out of the van due to the height even with our 2 step set and as we had run out of blocks, they were sloped so not ideal. We managed though and it didn't ruin our holiday, we will always return but not to pitch 22.  Gamekeepers pub on static site next door was for the 1st time in many, poor. Takeaway fish and chips, raw chips, burnt fish batter and the seasonal veg on a roast Sunday lunch consisted of baby sweetcorn and sugar snap peas, carrots and red cabbage, not exactly seasonal, would have preferred a good cauliflower cheese, cabbage and leeks or something more autumnal.  New wardens for this year, all friendly, helpful and time to chat. Reception area a little crampt now with the book exchange being moved there from the info room. I always read when away and like to leave my finished books and choose some more and charity donations go to local mountain rescue here I think. I didn't feel I could browse the shelves properly without getting in someones way. Small, very minor niggle for me. The choice in basic groceries available has increased but again, takes up more room in a tiny reception area.  Will be back, love the site and area to much for dog walking, great surroundings and pleasant all round ambiance.  Toilet block was always fresh, clean and never too busy. I'm not fussed about it being dated, after-all my bathroom at home is and I still use that! If the toilet block / facilities were to be updated, I would like to see a boot / dog wash area, would even pay a small amount to use and this would certainly be beneficial in the more inclement weather conditions we have.

Another good visit

Just spent 6 great nights as our end of year treat in our favourite site . Very happy that there are plans to install a warm water dog wash attached to the shower block that will make it so much easier to visit the site in the muddy seasons .  Will be returning again avoiding school holidays as it was not big enough to involve the stewards but small children using the road to cycle round the wrong way at speed was worrying and only watched by the parents when they sped round for another circuit .

Wharfedale visit

Visited 23 October for two nights. Wardens were very helpful and friendly. The site is well kept and they obviously take pride in what they do. The pitches are very spacious and the facilities very clean. For a motorhomer we found the bus service from the end of the drive superb, and at no extra cost a very entertaining bus driver who made the journey to Grassington and Skipton a pleasure. We'd recommend this site to anyone and will return ourselves.

Fantastic base

Our first visit (caravaning) to Yorkshire, stunning site for walking, didn't use the car from arrival to departure,   if you like walking with the dog from the site plenty of variants available.   It is obvious that grassington has specialised in the farming of visitors, and I suspect in high season would be very busy, but in October worth a day browsing.

Great base for walking

Stayed here 3 nights  in mid October. Friendly welcome at reception, good spacious pitches, and all very clean and tidy. Thought the toilet/shower facilities, whilst immaculately maintained, could do with a bit of a makeover but that's being just a bit picky. Excellent base for walking. There is a bus service from Grassington to the South (about 2 hourly), and (at the moment - check, this may change) sometimes to Kettlewell and Buckden. We'll be back, certainly, for more walking.
