We have visited this site on numerous occasions over many many years. Having been brought up in the area it is one which we love and enjoy visiting often to walk in the dales.
The refurbishment of the toilet block is certainly an improvement with lots of spacious showers and lovely hot water. One comment I would make is that ladies need to be 6ft tall to see in the mirror when drying hair as the mirror is placed above the driers.
The resurfaced roads and new service points are good but I can't understand why all the hedges have been removed. There is now a distinct lack of privacy on the site and a lack of birds. A lovely rural setting has become more clinical.
Having said all that we will be returning as we LOVE the area. After all it's "God's own county" . Lots of super walks in Wharfedale, close to Skipton if you don't want to walk, half hours walk into Grassington, plenty of super places to eat. Definitely something for everyone.
Visited this site previously but before the improvements, as is is quite handy for us, and in an area we love and are familiar with. Nice clean well kept site, is more open now with all the shrubbery being removed, probably less privacy, especially when the site if full as it was when we were there due to it being the last week of the school holidays. We had our grandchildren with us as we wanted to visit the brilliant Kilnsey show for once the weather was dry for this show. Also did pony trekking at Kilnsey Trekking and trout fishing at Kilnsey fisheries. The kids loved it and played on the playground most evenings. Walked to Grassington had a paddle in the river also visited our favorite pub The Fountaine at Linton. Didn't see wardens much as didn't need them, check in was fine though, they must work quite hard to keep the site so well kept. As said earlier with being handy for this site will be visiting again, probably in the winter months.
Just one gripe why do folk walk over pitches instead of walking on the paths think it is very rude!
Lovely location and really nice site, however we were lucky to get a level plot.. I don't know what we would do if we could not..
The facilities were fantastic and clean, however as it is a 'holiday location' we found it annoying that everything is shut, shower and shop mid morning to lunchtime. There is only one toilet open when cleaning happens so there was often a queue. I really believe cleaning should be done in the afternoon like other CMC sites we have been to and the shop/office should not shut.. that said we did love it and have booked to return..
This is a wonderful site and location but i wish it advised levelling blocks are required when booking.
Like many others we could only get partially level as we did not expect this on a vlub site.
First site i have known like tbis a could surely have been rectified whilst thew new toilet block was built.
Apart from living on a slope it was very good and staff were helpful.
This site is in a beautiful location, it's spotlessly clean, and the new wash room is fabulous, although it's a long way if you are at the end of the site. It may have been better to have two small blocks.
There is lots of space between each pitch. However, we were unfortunate in that where we were pitched there was an outcrop of rocks behind the van, and several children would gather there in the evenings to climb up on the rocks, or go over the wall.
Their parents were probably oblivious. One of the mums did come looking for hers after several hours, it made us smile as we watched her walk through several pitches, (I honestly think she didn't see any wrong in it) then stand outside our door telling the children to come away. She might have been the mother of all of them actually as no one ever did claim the other kids and they eventually left when it either rained or got dark.
Seriously, the majority of the children were fine, and all were well behaved, although one or two drivers were going too fast on site and the children were, well being children and whizzing around on their bikes and scooters.
There is a fabulous playground on the site for them, and it was in use most of the time we were there.
Do your homework on the area before you come away as there isn't that much in the information room that is relevant to the local area. Or perhaps there was and stocks need replenishing.
The landscaping on site is superb! You will want to return. I do but I will make sure it;'s on a different pitch.
Lovely clean site, with excellent facilities, we stayed here on our way back North after a 2 week road trip around Devon and Cornwall. I can honestly say it was one of the better sites we stayed at. Only 30 min walk into Grassington. I can't see what all the fuss is about, the new site looks great without the bushes, and we didn't have any problems with people walking past our pitch, and if they did, it's a caravan site, not a private garden. I will definitely be returning.
We visit this site every year to do family and friends in Yorkshire and always thought it was pretty good but the alterations over the winter are terrific. There wasn't much wrong with the toilet block but now it is superb and thank goodness a lot of the shrubbery has been removed to give more space on pitches and you can actually see other people. well done Caravan Club. Oh! and the wardens are just very, very good - friendly, approachable, helpful and very hard working. We had a great stay and look forward to being back next year.
We found that pitch 56 which we were on was terrible for knocking our awning pegs in. I had to purchase some more long steel awning pegs, as the ground although it was a hard standing, I ended up digging 9 inches down before the pegs would grip. Hence 2 1/2 hours to put up our air 3/4 awning.
overall the site was lovely and peaceful, Plenty to see and do in the Dales for all ages ;-0
Picked up our new Swift and went direct to the site for 5 nights. Had a wonderful time and have to say the staff and facilities were outstanding. Had lots of friendly advice from other club members as well. We had plenty of rain and some high winds but for us it meant we knew our new van was water tight!!
We will be back again!
Having arrived at one of our favourite sites on the CC circuit, we couldn't believe our eyes - you've decimated the shrubbery! What was a beautiful Yorkshire Dales site is now unrecognisable from its past glory. It beggars believe how the CC hierarchy come to their decisions. Please don't throw the H&S argument because it's so old hat. All privacy has now been eroded, giving way to the usual inconsiderate CC members who love to walk through your pitch until of course you do it to them. This includes bringing their dogs en route and haphardly using other people's pitches as a dog loo! What were you thinking? Yes it cuts down on maintenance but use your common sense and take the trimmer away before year's and years of growth and beautiful shrubbery is gone forever. You've done the same at Castleton - why?? The speed on this site also continues to be a frightening reoccurrence and it's a problem the CC just don't seem to be able to resolve. Really sad and disappointed to see how youve spoilt this site. Come on CC get a grip!
