Relaxing break

Just enjoyed 6 nights on this site. A fantastic site for walking, we only used our car once. A walk over the tops to Lindon is a must what a beautiful village and a great pub for a coffe/lunch stop. Site warden very helpful and friendly. Refurbished toilet block is excellent and extremely clean. The only improvement we felt would be a separate facility for washing boots/dogs rather than at waste water tap points. Can't wait to return next year.

great weekend away

We have just returned from 2 nights here , our first visit since the refurbishment. The facilities are lovely and clean , plenty of hot water in the showers and lovely and warm inside. the only point we picked up on was there was no coat hooks in the washing up area ,especially at this time of year when you are wearing outerwear . The drying room is great . The site is well located for the dales and plenty of walks from the site. Will be back next year.

Fantastic \site

Stayed here recently for a week and had a fantastic walking holiday with the dog. Have been a few times before and the refurb is superb with spotlessly clean services. The location is wonderful with many beautiful walks nearby and the new Spar attached to the petrol station within easy walking distance through the woods is excellent for provisions. I cannot fault this site and will most certainly be back.

Nice site for walking

We have just come back from a 4 night stay at this site. The site was refurbished this year, so the facilities were spotless. There are enough walks from the site so, you can leave your car at the site and not need it all week. Wardens were extremely friendly and very helpful.

Good site in a lovely part of the world with just a few flaws

Our first visit to Wharfdale site , we really enjoyed it, very interesting area with so many options as what to explore, a top class facility block , a great plus for us was the Gamekeepers a short walk away , definitely recommend their evening specials Good Food reasonably priced, looking at other members reviews we are not alone in being hacked of with lack of any hedges/ bushes anything for a bit of privacy, from our site at the edge of the field / site we looked across 6 rows of 12 plus caravans , when compared with Whitewater site in Teesside or Teesdale at Barnard Castle where they have managed to landscape the site with some great feature hedges/bushes, a pet hate we have is where fellow campers just walk across pitches and this site just encourages that , we urge CMC not to follow the Camping and Caravan club of bland landscaping of sites, while I'm having a winge I cannot be the first person to miss the site entrance and then have a mad panic as where to turn around on a strange road so better or more prominent signage would be appreciated Pretty Please , Not sure if we will return??

Still our favourite

Visited with family since the refurb and was pleased to see the regular wardens still there . But despite several requests on previous reviews and encouraging conversations still no dog wash ! Ideal opportunity to have done it with the refurb but missed Can't see the problem as other sites have managed it , sorry to see the hedges go as it gave it character and stopped folk walking straight across pitches as shortcuts ( which we saw plenty of ) didn't effect us as we were backed onto the wall . Still a great place

Peaceful but convenient for local facilities

Our first stay at Wharfedale site, mid October. Beautifully kept site and facilities. Useful on site shop. Despite being there at the end of Ophelia and then Storm Brian, hardstanding pitch drained well. Beautiful views from the site and lots of walks directly from the site to suit various abilities. Barely 7 minutes walk to leisure centre and Gamekeepers Inn at Long Ashes - good food plus lunchtime and mid week meal offers, e.g. Curry night, pie and a pint night. Good value. About 45 minutes walk to Grassington - recommend The Retreat for coffee and cake or lunch with good choice for gluten free diets. Around a 20 minute walk to Threshfields Spar shop which has an in store butchers - highly recommended, especially their home made sausages and pork pies. Local, bus service available at the end of site lane to Grassington, Skipton, Kettlewell and Buckden. A great stop. Already planning to come back again.

Excellent site

Have been to this site many times and this was the first since it has been refurbished. i still think it is one of the best sites in the country with a fantasic new toilet block and an unbeatable location within the heart of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. Top that with the best dog walk in the country and how can you go wrong.

13th visit!

We have been to this site many times. It is in a fantastic area. Easy to walk into Grassington, just 45 mins. Get the bus into Skipton or up to Buckden. Have a car drive over beautiful moorland via Halton Gill and over to Settle. The site is well run with excellent wardens. The new toilet block looks very good, but we always prefer to use the facilities in our caravan - that's our choice. However, the site has been vandalised by the removal of all the hedges!! It now just looks like a sea of caravans in a large field. The hedges stopped people invading your privacy by cutting across the pitch you are on. They also broke up the site into smaller, more attractive areas. There are noticeably fewer birds now as a result. We will still visit, because it is in such a wonderful area, but the site is not as attractive now.

A return trip to a great site

Spent 9 nights at Wharfedale late September/early October. The site was relatively quiet in the week but busy at the weekend. Site well kept and helpful wardens. Contrary to other reviews we did see plenty of birds on the bird Feeders! The accompanying hound loved that he could walk for an hour or so around the perimeter of the site, The weather was pretty wet but our hard standing pitch always drained well. Eating out recommendations would be : first choice The Fountaine Inn at Linton, superb food, second The Gamekeepers Inn on the adjacent Long Ashes site. The new SPAR shop in Threshfield is very well stocked and the meat from the in store local butcher, Weatherheads, is excellent with a great variety of meat ( We returned several times). Only niggles would be the lack of courtesy of some members who walk across other people's pitches and those who seem to think the 5 mph rule excludes them, particularly when they are searching for a pitch on a Friday!
