We stayed as a family of 4 adults in our campervan on 2 separate occasions in August. Once at the beginning and once in the middle. 2 nights each time. It’s a lovely spacious well set out site with fantastic views towards Blencathera and Skiddaw. The first time we stayed next to the toilet block which was a large hard standing and we had an extra car as well as awning and van and it all fitted well. And the second time we did the same but in a different area in front of a tree. The reception lady was very friendly and welcoming both times for check in. The toilet block was a bit further for us the second time but still only a few minutes. All very clean and this time fully open so no waiting for showers or toilets. I noticed that people are now not wearing masks at all ..but it’s up to personal preference. The site is not within walking distance of a pub so you do need to drive. The fish and chip van visits once a week on the site. Penrith is about 10 miles drive but had a good choice of bars and restaurants. If you like craft beer I would recommend the Fell brewery bar which had just opened and had lots of seating space upstairs as well. We have a dog and did not find one restaurant which did not take dogs. Keswick is good to visit but it was very busy and the same for pooley bridge. There are no fells you can walk straight out of the site, and the forestry commission are doing a good job in fencing everywhere off now so it limits some close dog walking. Wainwright’s smallest peak can be seen opposite the site but you still have to drive to it to walk up. Also Latrigg fell near Keswick has good views over towards Derwentwater and also Bassenthwaite in the distance. Car park is small.
I would definitely recommend this site and we will return again in the autumn for the lovely colours. Also you get the best sunsets in the borrowdale area in the autumn months!
Noisy
This is a large pleasant site with well-kept level pitches. I'm not quite sure, though, why it is more expensive than other Lake District sites. Your experience will vary according to where you are located. There are some pitches which look out onto lovely Lake District views, such as 70, 71, 50,49. Unofrtunately we were on 77 which has no views because the large fence is hiding the activity centre next door which produces constant unpleasant noise from first thing in the morning until the evening.
Well worth doing the walk over to the Royal Hotel at Dockray. Not too strenuous and there are some lovely views, good beer at the pub.
Love this place !!!
Fantastic site, great location, very very clean toilets/showers, little games room for the kids, and very friendly and helpful staff who work with a smile on their Face at all times. Thanks we will be back !

Fantastic
We live in Cumbria but fancied a weekend away a little closer to home, we certainly weren't disappointed.
This site is in the perfect location for exploring the North Lakes, set between Penrith and Keswick you're quite literally spoilt for choice!
Facilities are some of the cleanest and well kept that we've experienced, lovely little park for the children to play in and a little wooden area which they used for some more exploring. The staff are an absolute credit to this site, they work hard and it shows in the high standards around the site.
We'll be returning again for a local weekend away.
One night stay at Troutbeck
We used Troutbeck as a one night stop over on our way to London (from Aberdeen). The site is really well kept, toilet block and showers were first class and the staff were very friendly.
We cycled with our 8 year old to the pub (1-1/4 miles) and it was all downhill on the way there so we decided to have just the one drink to make sure we could get back!
We didn't have any wifi but managed reception on the phone for my minecraft addicted child.
Perfect location for walks and visiting the surrounding area. We will return again.
We have found a perfect site for exploring the Northern Lakes
Just returned from an 8 night stay at Troutbeck, and were very satisfied with the club site. The facilities recently refurbed, are to a hotel quality of standard and cleanliness. The games room was welcome during the odd shower. Dog walk was excellent, and never boring due to the constant wonderful views all the way round.
We had no internet, and I was not aware of this before arrival, so had a couple of disgruntled teenagers. This was then exacerbated by the lack of TV reception for the first 4 days until the aerial repair man sorted the job out. Other than those two issues, cannot fault the site, staff or location. We will return!
Excellent site
A very clean and well managed site, the facilities are excellent and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
Only issue on the site were children riding bikes at speed going the wrong way on the one way system, worried they may get hurt colliding with on coming vehicles
Very convenient location on way to Scotland
We had a 2 night stay recently at Troutbeck during our recent heatwave. Fear not from earlier reviews the midges weren’t that bad just a few nibbles and the noise for us non-existent, just a lovely peaceful stay. Just bear in mind there are no nearby shops to walk or cycle to that easily so stock up before you come or be prepared to take your camper out for a trip. Ullswater is not too far away but quite a long walk that’s not that well defined so worth checking before you leave. In our case ideal stop over should you be going north as not too far to Scottish border. Enjoy.
Troutbeck head.
Our fourth visit to this really fantastic rural location where the site is kept spotless by the tram of friendly wardens. We had an issue with our brakes locking up on our caravan and three wardens came to our rescue and sorted the issie out. Cant thank the hard working team enough. The toilet blocks are both spotless at any time during the day. This site is ideally located to explore all parts of the lakes with Penrith and Keswick just a few miles away for your provisions. Highly recomend this site which ticks all the boxed for us.
