Further Return

We visit Tredegar at various times throughout the year, travelling from Derbyshire to visit our daughter who lives in Cardiff. We generally enjoy the drive into Wales, find the site easily located and pitch easily with our motorhome. We have a favourite spot on site and if it is available are very pleased, if not we find an alternative spot. The Wardens are always busy and friendly and we have noticed cosmetic improvements to various areas of the site carried out by the dedicate staff. The facilities do need updating but we know this is beyond the Wardens, they are kept remarkably clean and have clearly had time spent on them with a deep clean, which they badly needed. We shall continue to use this site in order to visit family and try to book out of peak times, however, we did enjoy the Christmas market again in Cardiff, easily accessible via bus at the top of the road. See you again for New Year 2016.

Great mid week

Stayed 4 nights mid week - great offer and price. Site very good standards and centrally located to this area. Very clean site and good pitches. Yes there is some noise from the nearby motorway and roads. My biggest gripe, coming back in at night in winter months. The House road is closed by a padlocked metal gate at 5:30pm. You have a key for this lock, but, there is no lighting nearby so it is very eerie if you are on your own or a couple. Once through this gate access to the Caravan site is by key barrier and is well lit so no problems. Tredegar house car park is lit all night, they really need another lamp post near the gates for our membership to feel secure at night.

Pre christmas

we stayed early Dec and visited - the House (decked out for Christmas with loads of children's activities  and interaction with volunteer staff). - Cardif castle and christmas markets  - Newports new shopping centre and cinema/restaurants nearby  all in all lovely winter weekend away site clean and well laid out and yes lovely grounds for a walk. Road noise didn't trouble us - you cant have it both ways  - you do drop off the motorway onto this site making it quick access for a short stay. Comments re access to site after 5.30 in winter can be off-putting - you do get a key for evening entry through the gates but on first visit need to be there before gates locked

My Only Gripe

Great site, as we live fairly near we tend to use this site at least twice a year sometimes more, we generally pitch up at the start of the season to check all is working in the caravan, usual standard for CC sites, excellent, my only gripe is the hard standings, the awning metal pegs take some hammering in, they also take some getting out!!!!! It's deffo not chippings some of the stones are 2", they also appear to have small holes in them, some by-product from somewhere no doubt, my theory is the metal pegs go into the small holes and that's why they are hard to remove, I'm no weakling ex construction ex rugby union prop, please CC Club replace hard standing chippings.

First visit

We stayed at this site mid November, very good site, clean and tidy. Facilities were sparkling! Wardens were friendly and helpful. We have dogs and the park around the house was good for walking. We did not find the noise from the road intrusive. The closest shop was an easy walk.

Pleasantly surprised

I'd been put off this site for a few years, by friends who'd visited and said they'd felt uncomfortable there because of notices warning of theft from vehicles etc. Needing to take a break on the way to Somerset though, we decided to book in, and what a pleasant surprise we had. We enjoyed the atmosphere of the site (apart from the ever-present M4 traffic noise) and really took to the place. We had a leisurely wander around the park estate and had a nice chat with the lady in the woodworking studio in the old barns. Sadly we were just too late to try the tearoom but we will definitely be back for a longer stay to make the most of the nearby cycle routes to the transporter bridge, shops and canals. Oh yes, nearly forgot... the receptionists were really pleasant too!

Good Value Winter Site

We used this mid sized Club Site for a couple of nights as part of a short tour round South Wales. Easy to find and close to M4 motorway, so good for overnight stays as well as a longer break. Situated inside grounds of Tredegar House Country Park, the site is set in attractive woodlands, adjacent to a small fenced lake. Most pitches are hardstanding, with a few grass and a seperate tent area. Some pitches are slightly terraced, which helps with the background hum from road traffic, but we hardly noticed it anyway. Pitches are generous size. Small toilet block, complete with laundry and wash area were well maintained and spotlessly clean. MH empty point was easy to use. Site is full of birds and squirrels all hopping around, and must be very pleasant in Summer. The adjacent Country Park offers great dog walking within 200 metres of site, and The NT Tredegar House is also a short 5 minute stroll away.  Plenty of shopping, site seeing, things to do close to site, we went to Caerphilly Castle and Caerleon Roman City. Wardens are very welcoming, keep the reception topped up with essential buys such as eggs, Etc... All in all, a very nice site, and with the off peak and midweek discounts, very good value for money.

Excellent stay

Have just returned from an excellent stay on site. The site is close to the road but didn't really notice the noise except for the odd motorbike. It is centrally located to everything you need and provided a much needed break. My only criticism of the hard standing pitch is that it is particularly very hard to bang metal pegs in without bending them. Overall though we will be returning at some point in the future

Excellent site

We stayed at this site for two nights either side of the Cardiff University open day.  We didn't have a lot of time to look around the site and the country park, but the site is well located for Cardiff and surroundings and the welcome at reception and the facilities were excellent.  Our pitch was very spacious, more so than many other sites. There was some road noise at night but this didn't put us off and we will definitely come again to explore more of the local area.

good location for short break

We have just stayed at the site during Half Term so we could visit our son who has just started a course at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff. The site is ideally located close to major routes in all directions and although the noise from the nearby motorway was not an issue in October when we were based inside the caravan is something to be aware of in summer when the emphasis is on making the most of outside living. Tredegar House is well worth a visit and its only a short drive into Cardiff.  The facilities are kept immaculately clean and site staff are friendly and helpful. Great site - our son is on a 3 year course so we will be back!
