Sandringham Camp Site Review

Overall our stay was very good, the only criticism was that for the large number of pitches the amount of toilet and shower facilities was hardly adequate

A Quiet Stay

Stayed July 2015. A lovely site in the forest with excellent washroom facilities mostly flat but on two levels. Reception has small shop but there is nothing else. Bus stop outside gate in local supermarkets you can park a motor home. You can walk to Sandringham House (1.5 miles) or through the woods.  Nice seaside place is Hunstanton with motor home parking next to the promenade and town centre (all level, £3.50 4rs).

Stayed in July 2015. First time at this site having used the competitions adjacent site before. Typical Caravan Club sanitised site layout (you could almost be anywhere), cleanliness superb. Too many hardstanding pitches and not enough grass... Staff friendly enough though did show a complete lack of awareness to what was going on around them. On our one good weather day , we were sat outside having breakfast for it to be disturbed by hedge trimming right on our pitch which precluded all conversation. We could be seen having breakfast yet there was no consideration for us. The hedge didn't need trimming anyway but it was as if this was the time and day to trim the hedge and nothing was going to get in the way of it. Also a rather noisy mini tractor that offended the ears... We needed gas whilst awat but the site didn't have any of our 'old type' and I had to push the warden to tell us where we might get some.. Funnily he didn't mention that the competitors site sold it, but would rather have sent me on a much longer journey. OK for families, though it did feel as if Children were a bit of nuisance. Big pidgeon problem that needs addressing... The location is excellent with easy access to the estate.... Is it worth the money ? Jury is out. As an aside, we did a straw poll as to how many 'vans had TV's.. Our estimate was 90%... Sad inditement of today's society..

July 2015

Excellent welcome from the staff, was allowed to choose my pitch. Very clean facilities, I used the showers at 4pm one day and was impressed that the water was hot and plentiful.  This is a lovely wooded site with over 130 pitches but does not feel overcrowded.  Yes I would visit again!

Good for walking and cycling

Our first time on this excellent site and we will definitely return. Very good area for cycling with quiet lanes - nice rides to Wolferton Station (interesting stop) and out through West Newton and round Sandringham estate.  Lots of good walks in the area. We also walked through the woods to the local Babingley social club for an evening drink ( access to walk at back of pitch 7, not signposted).

Sandringham

Our second stay at this site.  The location is very nice being easily accessible and within easy walking distance of the estate and facilities.  We walked every day on different routes through the woods.  We also used the excellent beach at Hunstanton (North) for kayaking and other activities.  I can also recommend the Sealife centre there where we were entertained every 30 minutes with informative lectures.  Back on site, the staff were efficient especially when we had to process a refund.  Compared to the other sites the toilet and showers are not the best.  There are plenty to go round but the pressure in the showers is very poor and combined with fixed heads necessitates some acrobatics to get a decent shower.  The gents also smell quite badly and the block was kept enclosed even in summer rather than allowing a good breath of fresh air.  Also, there is a constant aroma of the septic tanks which pervades the atmosphere.  One other van owner found it quite intolerable for 24 hours.  Several mobile food outlets visit the site which I'm all for but the obligatory parade around the site tooting horns at full volume is unnecessary.

A very nice site

We returned last Thursday ( a few hours ahead of the rain!) having spent two weeks on this site and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We had been a little concerned after a couple of negative reviews - but our worries soon disappeared. It is a very busy site in a prime holiday area, but one of the most friendly sites we have visited.  There is a nice play area, but we didn't think the site that good for children as there isn't much space for running around. We found the wardens friendly and helpful - though not quite as visible as perhaps they should be, particularly when there was a bit of an incident with someone 'pitch saving' & also another person with the inevitably untethered dog causing chaos. Some warden visibility might have prevented this. But the site is clean and well maintained. Toilet blocks do need refreshing and did get a bit grubby by the end of the day - they were very busy and there were queues at peak times. But the water was very hot and it was all very good natured. We had a pretty level pitch with plenty of space, but they vary greatly. Excellently placed for nice woodland walks, Sandringham house and close to lots of beaches and places of interest. Brilliant fish & chips, also pizza van and butcher visit the site. Supermarkets close by & wardens keep a good supply of essentials (including cream teas!), but a big challenge to find a working ATM & ended in Kings Lyn for this. All in all a good site and a really good holiday.

Lovely local site

We love this site and it is close enough to visit regularly. The only niggles are the variable pitch sizes - some are wider than others - and the need to use ramps to level the motorhome on gravel pitches. I feel they could have been made level when first prepared. Also, like other CC sites the sign on the road is set too far in so the site is easily missed until familiar.

Good couple of days

Enjoyed 2 nights at this site last week,on way to Norfolk Motorhome show (less said about that the better).Level pitch .Not too enclosed by trees etc.2 Toilet blocks both a bit tired , Need better ventilation, water not really hot but ok.Bus to kings lynn on time both ways. Not used but good to see fish & chips and pizza and butchers all on site,if you don't to travel around. should be worth a visit in autumn for trees etc.

Delightful week

Just arrived back after a week at this club site. It was our first visit to the site and we will definitely be returning. The wardens were friendly, helpful and kept the whole site in tip top condition. We stayed on the top part of the site near to the playground. The toilet block is slightly dated but functions perfectly and as usual there was never a queue for the shower.  Accessibility to Sandringham is excellent and well worth the visit. We had lived in Norfolk, having left some 19 years ago, it was lovely to be back again. Recommend this to all ages and families alike.
