Peace at Last!

First site after becoming members and WOW what a difference compared with independent sites. Site is immaculate in every way possible. Excellent Motor Home Service Area. Wonderful feature where you can pick your own herbs to add to cooking (just love this). Great local pub directly opposite (book a table in advance though), if you want to eat out. Rosedale has one other pub and a couple of cafes, plus a small golf course). Very sleepy village but perfect for observing wildlife, walks and relaxing. Owners are very welcoming and helpful. Site is alongside a river, has a fenced dog area and large spacious pitches (mixed gravel or grass). EHU included in site fee. Definitely recommend and will be back for sure! Not sure if it is an adult only site, thus family rating. It was only adults when we were there.

Just what we like!

A very well kept site exactly where it says it is, by a very pretty little village. We were given a nice friendly welcome from Sally when we arrived, and the general feeling was that of efficiency without the formality of some of the larger sites. There is no toilet block, but that does mean we don't have to pay for something that we don't need. The area is very good for walking, unfortunately the weather wasn't good enough for me to try out the hills on my bike. The only problems with the site are that the trees largely obscure the views and the lack of a phone and internet signal in the valley - you can get free WiFi in the pub across the road and other places in the village. Overall a very enjoyable 3 night stay.

Very Attractive Site

It wasn't busy when we were here for a weekend in the middle of May, but because of the layout, with pitches either side of the access road, even if full I don't think it would seem "busy". The site is beautifully kept and the wardens have created a new enclosed dog walk where you can let the dog off the lead. There's even a box with dog toys!! There's a nice 11 mile circuit round the valley on an old railway line which can be walked or mountain biked. Once up to the railway it's virtually flat all the way round with great views and some interesting industrial heritage. Plenty of road bike routes too, if you can do the hills. Perhaps the Club could enhance the wifi so that it was accessible throughout the site.

Peaceful Weekend

Just come back from this site over Easter weekend, great wardens with exceptionally clean and well tended site. No toilet block and no kids play area on here but the surroundings are beautiful and tranquil. The village of Rosedale has a couple of pubs/restaurants and some tearooms with a small shop. The area is lovely and we will be going back again.Only marked down for families due to lack of facilities but otherwise highly recommended site.

Hidden Gem

We stayed her in August for the Rosedale Show. The site was immaculate and we were surprised how green it was after the long dry spell. The site has been upgraded with new hard standing and improvements to the road. The wardens were helpful and friendly and the free herbs was a nice touch. Rosedale is a beautiful location with lots to do and see nearby. The pub across the road is dog friendly and has outside seating. There are some interesting walks from the site to suit all abilities. Rosedale Show is not to be missed and is within a five minute walk of the site. The lack of toilets and showers did not put us off because our outfit like most has both. We were aware of the road noise during the day while sitting outside but not at night or within our outfit. The road from Wrelton to Rosedale Abbey is a little tight in places but don’t let that put you off just take your time. This beautiful and peaceful site is a hidden gem, we have booked it again form 2019.

A great site in a great location

We have just returned from a 16-day stay at this wonderful site in an ideal location within the North York Moors. The Howard has basic facilities and this was what we were after as we have on-board toilet and shower. The site is very clean and kept very tidy by the wardens Martin and Sally who are clearly proud of their site. We received a very friendly welcome from the relief wardens, Sandra and Terry and received great help from Terry when I had a problem with the caravan electrics. Martin and Sally the site wardens were very friendly and whilst we were on a trip out from the site we received a call from Sally notifying us of a serious road traffic collision that had closed the main route in and out of the site allowing us to divert over the moors on our return. The pitches are level and well spaced. There is some traffic noise from the road that is adjacent to the site. This starts about 5am and continued until late evening, probably because of the exceptional weather during our stay. For children there are no play facilities on site (hence the lower marking in the category’god for families’) but for me this site is about exploring the wonderful North York Moors and given that this site is within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, it is an ideal location. There is no mobile signal on site and very limited wi-fi access on-site available only at one hot spot by the reception. To be fair this is stated on the site web-page. This was a disadvantage as in the evenings we like to research places that we have visited or seen during our trips out and this we were were unable to do. The club should consider investing in wi-fi. Locally there is a small store and Post Office in the village where basic needs such as bread and milk are available as well as a sandwich shop and cafe. The local pub also does a limited take-away meals service. Nearest supermarkets are about eight or so miles away in Pickering. There are some lovely places to visit nearby such as Chimney Bank, Rieveaux Abbey the villages of Hutton-le-Hole with the Ryedale Folk Museum, Goathland, Grosmont and to Whitby Abbey with lots of little villages and hamlets across the moors. The North York Moors Railway can be boarded for a trip through the Eskdale Valkey to Whitby. Well worth a trip, although a little expensive. Discount vouchers are available at the site entrance. One criticism, not of the site or the wardens but of some dog owners who walked their dogs across vacant grass pitches and allowed their dogs to wee or do their business where others could erect their awnings or have children playing. There is no designated dog-walking area. All in all, a wonderful site with great wardens. We will, without hesitation return in the future. Hopefully wi-if will be available by then.

The best site weve used

We visited the Howard on the 22nd of June for one week and found it to be an absolute gem, OK we were blessed with fantastic weather, but the welcome by the wardens started the holiday off perfectly, We knew beforehand of the facilities available on site and had absolutely no issues here, if you want shower blocks and play parks then this may not be what you are looking for. The wardens gave us a fantastic run down of what was available on site, in Rosedale and beyond, they are obviously passionate about their job and the hard work and friendliness was amazing. This must of rubbed off on other users on the site as everyone was so friendly. We are looking forward to booking again in the near future as this is now our favorite site we have used. there are many hard standing pitches along with grass , I'm sure in wet weather the hard standing would be a blessing. The water and waste points are spotlessly clean and were cleaned daily if not more often. Obsoletely no negatives, we love this site and the area.

Great Stay

We have just returned from a great stay at this wonderful site with wardens who are a credit to the club. Having read some reviews on the site I was a little apprehensive but been a bank holiday weekend most places were full on the Sunday. Seems it as undergone a makeover and seemed to be new facilitates which are kept clean and in good order by the wardens. Yes there was some noise from the pub on the Sunday night with a private function taking place but it was over by 10.30ish so did not disturb us, but it did do very nice meals and a good pint. The road runs along side the site but no real speeding traffic that disturbed us. There are no Toilets etc but in a modern van this is not an issue for us. The one thing that is disappointing is that not only is there no phone signal but the onsite Wifi is useless so don't pay for it before hand. I just at to go for a drink or two in the pub to get Wifi which was hard but at to be done. The area as a lot to offer and the site is set in a wonderful village in the hart of the North Yorkshire Moors. Hutton-le-hole is a must see, Pickering is a 9 mile drive away where main roads to the coast run from. Unfortunately while we were there it was misty (thick fog) on the moors all week so could not explore it much. But we will be back hoping for better weather next time. Overall if you have been to this site before and felt disappointed give it another go. The hard standing pitches are clean and almost dead level. The waste and water points are new and clean with a good motor-home point by reception. Wardens are friendly and welcoming so a big thank you to them.
