Spent 4 nights here in August, the wardens are cheerful and very helpful.Extremely clean and tidy, quite site when we were there. Will visit again.
Derbyshire revelation
Our last minute decision to snatch a few days away was very well rewarded at The Firs. This site is lovely, with amazing views of the Derwent valley world heritage area, and is peaceful, quiet and very well kept. Although the dog walk is small, we managed to tire our two out each day with a good long walk each morning - we can recommend Kedleston Hall (National trust) and High Peak Junction as starting points for some good walking with a range of challenge! Also can't fault the coffee and cake stops that the locality provides in abundance. And believe me, we tried quite a few during our short stay.
The facilities on site are modern and very clean and tidy, and the lower level now has mostly hard standing pitches which do not show up on Google earth. The wardens are helpful and friendly - and very busy keeping the site looking lovely. Please do follow the instructions in the Sites directory as the turn off the A6 is too sharp as a left-hander but fine as a right handed turn both on arrival and departure.
Not much for families on site, we agree, with no play area, but for those with older children the site is so close to lots of natural and man-made places of interest that this probably won't matter so much. Thank you to the girls who made lavender bags for charity - our caravan has never smelled better!
All in all a great site for a quiet break with good access to the local area, where there is much more to see and do than we anticipated. Lovely atmosphere on site - thanks to the wardens I think, for their warmth and welcome.

Cracking site
Recently returned from a 8 night stay. We were on pitch 31, all grass and well situated in a small cul-de-sac, just great for the sun. The warden, Mrs Maureen Vartey, was so friendly, cheerful and helpful. Great location for visiting the southern Peaks. We will definitely recommend this site to all couples but there didn't seem much for kids.
Really quite lovely site
Really quite and lovely site we stayed on plot 37 all grass pitch but really nice as we was next to the toilets which where really clean and well maintained bit of a trek if you was on the lower pitches went for a little walk around the site every night. places of interest all nearby suggest peak shopping village and the lovely town of belper which has everything you need will return again

Could not wish for a nicer site. Beautifully kept, quiet with very good sized pitches.
The whole place is spotless curtesy of two lovely wardens Maureen and Phil.
Lots of places to visit from this base and lovely views.
Will definitely return to this site again.
Thank you
Our first time out.
Our weekend visit to The Firs was our first time out with our tourer. We could not have picked a better site to start with. What a pleasant site, absolutely spotlessly clean toilets and shower block. Very tidy kept grounds, everything exceeded our expectations. Most of all a big thank you to our wardens Maureen and Phil who made us feel so welcome and took time to make sure we were ok. I hope the other sites we wish to stay at measure up to The Firs.
Our stay at The Firs
We have just spent a week at The Firs & can find nothing to complain about, the site is maintained immaculately, the grounds are tidy and rubbish free & the shower/loo block is absolutely spotless and always comfortably warm, plenty of hot water for showers and washing-up. There are spectacular views & even a little seating area (with views) where you can have a picnic. We would stay again if we came to this area. We also had a great meal at a local pub, The Black Boy, lovely food & great value, but you need to book for weekends.
super!
A lovely site in a beautiful location. Immaculately clean and tidy site and showers. Good TV reception in open central area where we were pitched - trees in some areas might affect reception. We liked the open, central sites with a minimum of trees blocking light and sunshine.
Not ideal for children as there is no play area on site and none nearby. Plenty of local excursions though and Belper is an interesting town in itself with a rich history and old buildings. Good shopping in town about 5 minutes away.
Quiet, immaculate site, lovely wardens
Stayed in this beautiful area last week. it's a lovely location with villages and pubs in walking distance and plenty of paths for walks / runs from the site. it is on a hill however so great views but you can't go far without encountering a slope! The wardens Les and Angie were lovely and the large toilet block immaculate. The site is safe for kids but there is no on site play area. In Heage there is a play area with skate ramps, swings, slide etc and the skittle alley and beer garden at the Spanker Inn is also good for school age kids.
There is plenty to do in the wider area. Gullivers Kingdom at Matlock Bath is slightly scruffy but a great day out for the whole family, For an extra £5 / head we recommend the Nerf Zone! Our 7 year old also really enjoyed the Lost City indoor mini golf in Nottingham.

Super short stay
As we were going to a wedding in Leicester we decided to make the stay a mini holiday and are delighted we picked The Firs. The wardens are great, particularly for taking the time to explain the best route to the wedding venue, the toilet block is immaculate, and to top it all Belper is a lovely typical Peak District town. There is no children play area on the site, hence the lower mark for this. The only downside for us is that our stay was so short but we will be back.
