Not the High Club Standard I Expected.

Booked 3 nights in mid july and was excited at prospect of a refurbished park only re- opened a month. Yes it has been exceptionally dry but that is no excuse for the grass pitches to be like a ploughed field. Who accepted this standard?. Placing some new turf upon uneven ground was not the answer. Tree and shrub planting wil not solve that problem. Pitches 64-69 seem much too close together for car, caravan and awnings. Some hardstanding had not been compacted and was very easily churned up with caravans being sited. With site operating at full capacity emptying bins only in the mornings is insufficient when overflowing by 5 pm. I agree with other reviewers it would not have taken much imagination in two of the mens cubicles to have placed the mirrors on the side walls instead of lower levels beneath opening windows. Site is in such a great location and so convenient for the M5.

Great location but some issues

The site is well located, unlike most Club sites, but feels very crowded and bare. Glad to hear more trees/bushes are to be planted. Would have been better with 100 pitches but, no doubt, the Club wants to make as much money as possible! No clear paths to the shower block. Shower temperature fluctuates, some showers "scream", top of a tap came off, one toilet kept running, insufficient washing up spaces, no hand washing in toilet disposal, ramp at opposite end to disabled facilities. Why does the Club persist in having horrible, old-fashioned shower curtains, instead of offsetting showers to provide separate shower and changing areas in a cubicle?? Actual numbers of toilets and showers is fine. Would be a good idea to put "snagging" lists in prominent places when sites are revamped, so problems can be highlighted by users. Are members involved in site design? No policing of dogs off leads, which seems to be the norm on Club sites, I'm afraid. Also, initially insufficient bins for glass disposal.

Engineering v Artistry

“One of the most impressively located sites on the network”. Yes perhaps, and carefully tended by excellent wardens. But what has the Caravan & Motorhome Club been doing with this development? The site is, of course, challenging due to often annual flooding placing constraints, hence the amenity block built on piers to remain above flood levels. That said, the block must be one of the ugliest structures on the network, towering in unprepossessing dominance over the south side of the site. By the steps the visitor is greeted by the gas supply enclosure - why should it be given such prominence in the design - perhaps to conceal the unattractive, utilitarian building beyond? Once you have found your way inside (access is restricted at each end by steps or a slope) you are met by mis-designed washrooms, where some mirrors are placed four feet from the ground below windows. A little design thought would have relocated them if this was the sole way to fenestrate the building. We booked a serviced pitch (the only available) and found ourselves to the rear of the building overlooked by the amenity block gantry and serenaded by the gents hand-dryers. Before our pitch, a view to the flats, behind our pitch minimal planting despite massive opportunity. Tewksbury as a town is worth a visit, but I sense that the site will require artistry as well as engineering before it commands affection.

LOVELY SITE, GOOD LOCATION

I thought I needed to respond to a previous review about one of the wardens referred to as the ‘large warden’. I assume you are referring to Mick who is a very friendly and hard working warden doing his very best to manage the site after it’s many improvements with all the teething problems that has presented. I have just returned home from a site where members were clearly breaking the rules but the wardens weren’t the slightest bit interested in our complaints. I know what I would prefer, and that’s a warden who ensures rules are respected for all members. On our recent visit to the Tewksbury site there was a very very abusive individual who wasn’t even stopping on the site. Mick handled the situation with a calm and professional manner, making sure members on site were safe until the individual was ejected.

renovated site

Stayed here this last weekend on a Multi-surface pitch, we were more than happy, air awning fitted easily on grass at side. Yes the grass is in a bit of a state, and the turves laid down have not bedded in as yet, but what with the weather it is no surprise. Talking to one of the wardens, the contractors were leaving the same day as the site opened, so no chance to water anything in. Contractors were delayed by three weeks due to flooding earlier in the year, so the site didn't have time to settle before being opened. Trees due to have been planted have been postponed until September. As soon as there is rain everything will bed in and settle down. Toilet block was excellent, only slight quibble was the water temp in showers fluctuated during use. This is still one of our favourite sites and we will return often.

Lovely Site

This was my favourite site of my trip. Lovely shower block. Lots of dog walks off site. Lovely Play area for the kids nearby. Easy walk into town. Felt like I was in an episode of Morse when the bell practice started. I was lucky and got a partial shady spot but would not have liked to be in the middle of the site in the full sun.

Not impressed

Arrived late afternoon for a one night stop. There were only 6 pitches left, none of which were level. Ended up choosing the last pitch which was described as grass. More soil than grass and definitely not level. This was a pitch with awning however as the front of the van was at ground level and the rear about 2 foot in the air the awning was not going up. As we have 3 dogs we used the wind break instead which ended up breaking one of the poles in the hard ground. Yes the toilet block was lovely new and clean and it looks like several hard standing pitches have been added to the site but the remainder of the grassed area looks like a building site with sods of grass placed over the top. Nice location and easy access to town but not impressed been to much nicer sites that haven't been renovated. Pleased it was only a stop over for one night.

Gates locked 10.30pm until 7.30am each night

We have just arrived today after a long journey and was given a site plan with some info on the back giving the details that the gates will be locked (was busy setting up and couldn’t find the sheet it had slipped down the back of the table) We arrived late afternoon and after setting up we needed some groceries, the only place open after 10pm (we could find) was Tesco 20 mins away so after getting a few items returned to the site to find the gates are locked at 10.30pm, yes locked and they were not going to open them. Looking at the access statement (online) it does not mention this and can only find the info on one of the other downloadable sheets. It would have been nice if it was mentioned when we paid for the pitch. First impression overcrowded only one chemical waiste disposal only one toilet block for a lot of pitches and not one of the nicest looking sites I’ve seen, ok if you want to be in the middle of the town. “THIS IS JUST THE FIRST NIGHT“ if we decide to stay we will be in bed by 10.35pm

Lovely site

We came back on first day, site wardens coped extremely well on such a busy day. We love the site, especially the new shower block As we have a daughter in Tewkesbury we will be back quite a lot. I can recommend Zitta e Mangia italian resturant in the high stree, Crystal Rivers indian again in the high street, and the Berkely Arms which is near to the site and where you can take dogs. Congratulations on the upgrade.

Congratulations Caravan & Motorhome Club

You have managed with lots of thought and planning to totally destroy this once charming site in this beautiful old town of Tewksbury. The site is now sterile and characterless. All the grass pitches are uneven and like a ploughed field. The hard standings are too close together and the whole site is overcrowded. The facilities block is far too overpowering and very badly thought out (why have a ramp the opposite end of the building to the disabled facilities) There is only one chemical waste disposal point on the whole site. I could go on and on about your lack of forethought and planning but your limit on my input does restrict this. The whole site is overcrowded. I am sure any thought of your members has been put to one side in the pursuit of profit. The staff had difficulty dealing with blocked toilets and issues dealing with non members coming onto the site which can be very upsetting.
