We stayed at this lovely site for 6 nights in a motorhome which was probably too long. It has lovely new facilities, the staff are friendly and cheerful but the site lacked atmosphere. We got the impression that it was being used as a transit stop for those travelling from/to the West Country. The local facilities are great and the Abbey is a must see (it is dog friendly).
Plenty of eating and drinking places within 5 minutes walking.
The site itself is undulating and needs to be levelled out. We were lucky and managed to get a reasonably flat pitch but others struggled. I got bogged in at one point only to find a small ditch running across the grassed area but, with a bit of juggling, managed to get out. Some of the pitches in the bottom corner may prove too much if it rains.
We will probably go here again in a couple of years but only for a couple of nights on our way to somewhere else.
Shockingly awful site
Having been to Tewkesbury many times over the decades and it being one of our favourite sites, we were devastated when we arrived on this final (literally) occasion. The initial impression is one of arriving at some awful overnight holding field. Our pitch was grass but the ground so uneven that we couldn't get the step into the 'van to sit squarely without rocking! Having read the Club's reasons for opening this site in this state I find incredulous. It is not, in my opinion, to enable members to be able to enjoy this season. It should not have been opened until it was, at least, aesthetically pleasing. Unless it is a site you choose as an overnight stop, I would suggest you find somewhere in more pleasant surroundings to spend your hard earned pennies. To imagine that members would find this site acceptable and charge them a premium for the pleasure of staying, I feel is an insult. You may well be able to fill the site at the moment because there are those that have no idea of how bad it is. I sincerely doubt whether this will continue, though, as members will choose not to return.

Awful!
Having just returned from this site I felt I had to write my first ever review in 21 years of membership.
Awful! The worst site I have ever come across from the club.
Literally every single square metre is allocated to a pitch. It was more like a commercial site than a club site. The only few good pitches are around the fantastic new toilet block.
The grass pitches were in a very poor condition and more like mud than grass.
The attitude of one particular warden? (Witnessed by two onlookers who were in agreement with me)
“Why did you stay then?”
“If you weren't here someone else would be”
“we fill it anyway”
Take a good hard look at this site because your very loyal members will not put up with this for ever. Far to many pitches and some are simply ridiculous.
When/if you go here when the grass pitches are closed then I should imagine it would be lovely.
Positives. Locality, toilet block, some (very few) pitches.

Return visit
Having visited this site several times but not for about two years, we had a very pleasant surprise at the changes that have been made. We chose a hard standing which took the form of a block paved surface. This would preclude setting up an awning on it as pegs could not be hammered in. However, an awning could be set up on the grass to the side of the pitch. There were only a few of this type of pitch and the rest were normal hard standings or grass. Most pitches are level.
The new facilities block was superb and kept immaculately clean. A vast improvement from the old facilities. The site is a stone's throw from the town centre where there are numerous restaurants and pubs. Also the Abbey is well worth a visit as is the John Moore's museum. There is a bus stop about 200 metres from the site entrance with frequent services to various destinations.
As usual the wardens were very friendly and helpful and kept the site extremely tidy.
Revamp has left the site with some flaws
Having used the Tewkesbury site before I was keen to see what improvements the revamp had delivered.
The new toilet block is fIrst class in its facilities and now being raised above flood level, should remain so. It's a pity that the planners did not give more thought to pedestrian access to the facilities though. While stepped access is at one end of the building and disabled ramp access at the other, both the steps and the ramp face in the same direction towards the town side of the site. This means that occupants of half the pitches have to walk via the roadways to enter the block from the other side.
The refurbishment works have left the grass areas very uneven, and, because more pitches have been created within the grassed areas rather than having direct access from the road, crossing other people's pitches on foot to try and find a route to the toilet block is inevitable. Some marked footpaths crossing the site would be helpful.
Otherwise still a site worth visiting, especially with the walks by the abbey, along the river bank, the battlefield trail and around the historic town.
Loss of Character
We spent 3 nights at Tewkesbury in mid September in our motorhome.
This was our third visit, but first to the new 'improved' site, but what a difference, lovely facilities but no character, all a bit sterile and all a bit cramped. We note there are now less pitches than before but everybody seems to be too close together, especially on the grass pitches. A few more shrubs between pitches would help.
Just one final comment, why do members insist on cutting across pitches or climb barriers when walking to the facilities? There are perfectly good roads on the site without the need to invade people's privacy, it's just good manners.
Manners aside, it's a perfectly placed site for exploring Tewkesbury and could be excellent with the planting of a few well placed shrubs.
Transit camp but great overnight stop
Having titled this transit camp I hold my hands up to being part of the problem. This is a perfect overnight stop on the way to the west country. Fab new amenities block. We have stayed here for an overnight stop previously on several occasions so the changes to the site were a surprise. massive vegetation clearance has taken place and that doesn't help the overall appearance. However, this needs to be done from time to time and re-landscaping wont grow overnight. Things like peg numbers and layout can be adjusted over time, not the end of the world.
However, back to the transit camp feel. Inevitable in peak season. Right in the heart of the town and walking distance from shops pubs and restaurants, Tewkesbury deserves a longer look but I wouldn't want to stay long really due to the constant movement and, in high season, the site is very busy. Great overnight stop though and will be back next time we go to Cornwall :)

An opportunity missed.
First time here in many years, so, a bit biased as we liked the 'old' site, it now feels very crowded, a bit like another Tewkesbury car park !... are there more pitches than before ? It certainly feels like there are, no onsite planting...and it shows. Very stark and bare, making being overlooked by the blocks of 4 story flats more intrusive than they ever seemed before. The 4 or is it 5 differant types of pitch is very confusing, the 'mixed surface' type particularly so, who is it for ? Motorhomes or Caravans or neither ? The block paving ones seem a bit 'over the top'.
Now the good stuff, the Wardens are GREAT...thankyou for cleaning the fabulous new loos in the afternoons between 2.00 and 4.00 pm other sites..Take note.
Lovely new drive over motorhome emptying point...no more back breaking hernia inducing manhole cover lifting.
A missed oppurtunity for a great site. Of course being close to a lovely town like Tewkesbury means it will often be full, especially with motorhomes.
New layout is terrible
The "refurbishment" of this site has produced a wonderful new toilet block, BUT the rest of the works has produced a very poor site. There are only 15 (not a typo) hard standings with awning (and mainly used by outfits without awnings) so all the vans with awning are forced to pitch on grass ( If you are lucky, more likely to be a mud patch). However I note that the fully serviced pitches are the traditional gravel hard standings! The grass between and used as pitches is rough not the manicured sward normally seen on club sites. It is to be hoped that the club will have second thoughts on the pitches here.
We feel let down
We had booked in for one night the last Friday in August and the fee for one night, grass pitch, no awning, two adults was £29!
The warden at the gates organising new arrivals failed to smile, our grass pitch so uneven we needed to use chocks yet the site is on level ground. The site was fully booked and was cramped and chaotic, tents not now allowed. It appeared to me that the Club just wanted to cram as many fee paying customers on the site as possible.
When previously I complained to the Club about reducing the size of the dog walk at Rookesbury Park to allow for camping I was told that the Club want to encourage camping and to welcome everyone....so please what is the excuse for not allowing tents at Tewkesbury?
