Not brilliant or up to usual standard

Just had a week here & the first thing to note is that the pitches are very close together, as in not side by side but opposite. This means you will not be able to reverse into most pitches without a motor-mover. Having a service pitch was fairly pointless on the first morning, as the water in the bollard was frozen and as a note to the designer - waste will not run uphill - so don’t make the entry point higher than the pitch itself Although the toilets are large and clean, they are extremely cold. If you need to persuade things to happen, it’s pointless as you are not concentrating on that & to expose your body for shower hhhhmmm - good ad for underfloor heating? Or just use your own facilities It also has to be noticed that the bollards are very high (6 feet) I don’t see why they are so high as I guess you would have left way before then or this is for the Club because this is a high risk flood area. There no safe play are as the one just out side is a druggies haunt & there in nothing on site.it is good for dog walking though

Improved site

Having stayed here before the recent site improvements, I must congratulate the club on the layout of the site, gone have the trees that split the site in two, gone have the two old toilet blocks, incoming is the new look reception, the new toilet block, new site layout, and much awaited large hard standing fully serviced pitches. Well done to the club.

First visit after refurbishment

We were at Tewkesbury for several days recently, our first visit following the sites major refurbishment. The layout has changed and there are now several different types of pitch to choose from - we had a serviced pitch which was OK other than the electric and water pole being in one corner of the pitch, just about as far as it could be from the designated central pitching location of your caravan or motorhome and surprising that there was no TV socket on the pole. The new central toilet block is a big improvement on the previous two and has more toilets and showers than there were before. The only downside is that the block is higher than the surrounding ground level, probably due to the area being prone to occasional flooding, so access is by steps and a walkway which was very slippery one frosty morning but the wardens were quick to deal with it.The entrance door locks can also be a bit challenging in the dark at night. Unfortunately there were the usual issues with drivers ignoring both the site speed limit and the one way system. Its also a shame that all the trees have been cut down for some reason which has resulted in the site being a bit featureless - the same thing has happened at Beechwood Grange. Otherwise the site is ideally located in Tewkesbury so a five minute walk takes you into the town centre. Likewise its only a short drive to or from the M5 so we will definitely be back some time.

We would definitely return.

An excellent site with 5 star potential. There is still the planting to be done following the excellent refurbishment and once this has become established the site will be first class. I agree with alll the positive comments made about the site and the town. There are a lot of different pitch types which are not explained when booking - hard standing (block paved), hard standing (chippings) grass with awnings , grass without, multisurface pitches and fully serviced - clarity needed on booking please. There was a lot of noise at night heard from the drunken teenagers in the park next to the site and a mess left to walk past in the morning (beer cans, chip papers and condom wrappers!) but I appreciate that this was out of the controll of CAMC. Excellent site security at night and we felt very safe overnight. Very friendly wardens.

Superb. As per usual!

We have just returned from a fortnight stay at this wonderful club site. We visit this site every September without fail and we look forward enormously to visiting every year. This year was a bit more exciting as we got to see the new and muchly improved facilities. The toilet block is without doubt superb and is a great improvement on the old tired buildings. How anyone can complain about the toilet block is beyond us when you consider the old facilities and the state they were in. We chose a multi surface pitch and were glad we did. We were able to erect our awning on the grass side leaving ample room on the hardstanding for caravan and car. Upon looking around the site it is clear that the work carried out to improve the site has left the grass uneven and lumpy. This may settle in time, especially when the floods come and wash the mud away. Whilst we were there, the excellent wardens installed speed bumps to try and slow vehicles down to 5 mph. Unfortunately this site is flooded with people that only stay the odd night when the Town of Tewkesbury warrants a much longer visit than one or two days. There is much to see in the Town and the local area and the people of the Town are so welcoming and friendly. We find it a very relaxing stay and if you don't want to use the car or even cook every night then everything is just a short walk away. If we could stay all year we would but we would be content with it being open at Christmas ( nudge nudge). Please don't run this site down. It is still a work in progress. The Wardens do a fantastic job and are always on hand to assist. We shall, of course, he returning having already booked our fortnight for September 19 (and we can't wait!!). Thanks Tewkesbury. See you next year ☺

Will be returning

Just returned from overnight stay at Tewkesbury. Very impressed with the location of the site adjacent to the Abbey. Very close to the town with lots of shops and pubs. Great dog walk on the Abbey grounds plus others around the town, in fact the whole town is advertised as a 'dog friendly' town. Fantastic facilities block. We had a grass pitch which was very uneven, will choose hard standing next time. Will return for a longer visit.

A recommendable camp site

We have been here for the first time and found an excellent campsite. We have had a grass pitch and a full serviced pitch. Wifi is mostly ok if not a lot of other customers use it for TV in the evening. Especially to mention is the friendliness and extreme helpfulness of the team. Next year we will come back because it is a central location for all our undertakings.

Ridiculous access to new toilet block !

We returned from this site on 1 Oct 2018 after a 4 night stay, our first stay since the refurbishment was completed, obviously the facilities are new so at the moment looking good. My main complaint is the poor planning of the access to the raised toilet block, having to walk the whole length of the building from either end is ridiculous, when a small set of stairs could be added in the centre on both sides, meaning that chemical toilets would not be spilling over the walkway as they are carried up stairs and along the decked walkway, Who planned this? Also at night, entry to the toilet block is by a relatively high up totally unlit digilock, very awkward to use if carrying a torch, toilet bag & towel let alone people who need walking sticks or frames. The only pathway to these facilities is the main road, so you do have to be very careful, especially as the speed limit of 5 mph is rarely adhered to. We stayed on a serviced pitch, this is our preference and it was fine, TV reception was good, I just wish the site, after all the money that was spent on it, was designed with thought for the members that use it. These issues need addressing soon.

FIRST TIME HERE

We stayed at this lovely site for 6 nights in a motorhome which was probably too long. It has lovely new facilities, the staff are friendly and cheerful but the site lacked atmosphere. We got the impression that it was being used as a transit stop for those travelling from/to the West Country. The local facilities are great and the Abbey is a must see (it is dog friendly). Plenty of eating and drinking places within 5 minutes walking. The site itself is undulating and needs to be levelled out. We were lucky and managed to get a reasonably flat pitch but others struggled. I got bogged in at one point only to find a small ditch running across the grassed area but, with a bit of juggling, managed to get out. Some of the pitches in the bottom corner may prove too much if it rains. We will probably go here again in a couple of years but only for a couple of nights on our way to somewhere else.

Shockingly awful site

Having been to Tewkesbury many times over the decades and it being one of our favourite sites, we were devastated when we arrived on this final (literally) occasion. The initial impression is one of arriving at some awful overnight holding field. Our pitch was grass but the ground so uneven that we couldn't get the step into the 'van to sit squarely without rocking! Having read the Club's reasons for opening this site in this state I find incredulous. It is not, in my opinion, to enable members to be able to enjoy this season. It should not have been opened until it was, at least, aesthetically pleasing. Unless it is a site you choose as an overnight stop, I would suggest you find somewhere in more pleasant surroundings to spend your hard earned pennies. To imagine that members would find this site acceptable and charge them a premium for the pleasure of staying, I feel is an insult. You may well be able to fill the site at the moment because there are those that have no idea of how bad it is. I sincerely doubt whether this will continue, though, as members will choose not to return.
