We have recently returned from a wonderful few days at this lovely site. The Wardens were excellent, friendly and extremely helpful. We did try to get a Service Pitch but were told none were available, which is fair enough as they are becoming very popular. We had a great pitch which was very handy for the toilet block and the service point.
However, I did become somewhat frustrated to find five Service Pitches being used by Motorhomes, which were only connected to the Electric Hook Up. I hear what you say that if they wish to spend the extra money so be it. But is this fair? When members like us would like to be able to use the full facilities of a Service Pitch, but prevented from doing so. This is not the first time I have seen this happening.
We visited in our caravan for a mid-week break at the end of April. We had booked a grass pitch and chose No 14 which was flat and firm. We nosed-in to catch the sun on our awning for most of the day. We estimate the site was 75% full with the various non-grass pitches very popular. We did not find it too crowded (we’ve stayed at Cheddar!) but noted some pitches would be quite close (nose-to-nose) when the site is full. The site has the great advantage of being in a town with plenty of eateries and shops within a short walking distance. Details of some excellent leisure walks which start from the site can be obtained from reception. Being within a town the site is surrounded by town features (houses, car park, playing fields) and some ‘external’ noise is inevitable but at no time was it intrusive or bothered us. The new toilet and shower block was as good as any (and better than many) other Club facilities; never too busy and always clean. If proximity to the block is important, don’t confuse line-of-site with distance to travel – the planting is/will be very nice but represents a significant detour for all visits, including washing-up, etc. A cut-through would have been nice (and avoided the need for signs about walking on planted areas and others’ pitches) but would have cost a couple of pitches. Complaining (along with others here) about the door handle may seem trivial but it is difficult to operate, especially with small and/or arthritic hands. The issue could so easily have been avoided and could so easily be now corrected (please). We considered this to be a good site which is well maintained by a team of friendly and helpful wardens and we would stay again if in the area.
First visit after refurbishment and the improvements were excellent.
We had booked a standard pitch with awning. We saw the blocked paved multi-surface pitches had two different coloured marker posts one for awnings and one without. It would help if these are bookable on the booking form otherwise you could book one wanting to put an awning up but there would not be one available.
Wardens were very friendly and helpful. New toilet block superb.
A friendly and helpful arrival, a very good location and nice new facilities - a site I will return to. But I thought that the Blue and Green H/S pitches are marked out wrong causing very narrow pitches. Just move all the markers 6"/12" to the left!
Arrived on a lovely cold, dry day...... finding the site, with ease. Shown a choice of multi surface pitches. These were block paving and very nice indeed! An awning would have been difficult to erect but for our motorhome, perfect. A view of The Abbey and a well newly planted site with superb facilities....... spotless and warm! 100 yards from the Abbey and main streets of Tewkesbury, offering endless interesting buildings, alleyways and river walks. Plus walks over the ‘battlefields’ with Aldi’s through the cemetery! The Bell, nearby offered great food at reasonable prices and, of course, The Abbey is a must!
A thoroughly enjoyable three days. Well done The Wardens! Excellent Thank you 😊
We shall be back!
our second visit to site, this is our first visit since revamp. Stopped on way to and from Devon, great place for a stop over. Got a very warm welcome ,like the new block paving pitches.
very busy sites many like us using it as stop over. Thought £30.90 a night was pricey but a lot of other sites don't allow 1 night stopovers so cant complain.
The town is very dog friendly and had a meal in the Bell. Nice walk along river and lots of shops as well. Site next to school so don't know what access will be like if arriving when kids are finishing school. No dog walk but next door to big field. Would stop again for stopover or weekend away.
We came here before the upgrade and read reviews and were so worried BUT it is excellent yes there are lots of pitches but spacing is excellent. The facilities are plentiful and clean being a club site it is pricey but you get what you pay for.
Warm greeting by the excellent wardens always a good start. On a positive note the new facilties were first class.always clean and no queues. We were on a serviced pitch which was excellent apart from the fact it was on the short side and you were face to face with the units opposite.
Also because of their location and the lack of screening until the new shrubs mature, meant that all we could see was other units from all angles. It gave the impression of squeezing in as many units as possible for maximum return. Wifi and TV both superb.
Nice short walk into town with plenty of shops, theatre and boat trips. The Abbey is breathtaking in its beauty and history. Also good access to the Black Mountains in Wales and the site at Pandy is within easy reach if you fancy a peaceful change.
Having read some of the reviews of this site we approached our 3 night stay with some trepidation. We booked a serviced pitch to ensure we got a hard standing and bearing in mind the weather forecast it was a good job that we did. We received a very warm welcome from the lady warden and selected a very good sized pitch with a view towards the Abbey. Before we even entered the reception we noticed a board asking members not to walk across the new plantings or other members’ pitches. Bearing in mind the facility block is at the centre of the site walking across pitches must have been very common (one of my pet hates) but the new planting should be commended which should prevent this rude behaviour. The facilities have recently been refurbished and were spotless and spacious. We had several nice walks from the site to the town and along the river. Although overlooked by several flats the site was surprisingly quiet and our nights were not disturbed at all - not even by the Abbey chimes! All things considered we had a very enjoyable few days apart from packing up in the rain! The only negative thing I could say is that the chemical disposal points were both quite a way from our pitch but otherwise we were glad we chose to stay at Tewkesbury Abbey and will undoubtedly stay again when we travel to the West Country.
Our 1st visit here for a couple of nights which we enjoyed. Had a non-awning pitch on brick paving so not getting stuck and not needing to clean inside when leaving was good. Had an enjoyable walk south on riverside footpath. Wardens friendly. Facilities kept clean. Easy short stroll into town. We saw a medieval festival advertised for some time in summer. We will definitely return as there is more to explore in the area. No dogs or children with us so can't really judge suitability.
