A good site

We have visited this site several times, whilst its close to Barnard Castle, which we love, you have to walk down a busy road so have some brightly colours cloths and after dark a flashlight. There is a makeshift path but its somewhat overgrown and a grass cut would help. There is however a woodland walk into the town which is nice in dry weather as it is very muddy and slippery in wetter weather. There are some steep difficult sections. We try and be away from the pitches near the road as it can be a little noisy. Not a lot of traffic to be fair but the traffic does thunder passed. Dog walk has been closed for some time now... lets hope something soon. These are only slightly negative issues but feel the review it primarily to help customers. Its a very clean, well kept site, we love it and will continue to use it, lovely town close by and many walks in the immediate area, C & MC sort the roadside path please or make representations to local authority. signage warming of pedestrians would help and maybe a suitable speed limit.

EXCELLENT LOCATION

Excellent location. Just a short walk via the lovely Deepdale, over the River Tees via the Aqueduct and up into the amazing Barnard Castle (Barney as the locals call it). The town is just SO interesting with SO many small independent shops.....many of them antique shops if you're into that sort of thing. Then there's the stunning Castle....the AMAZING Bowes Museum (you won't believe your eyes the first time you see it!) and its picturesque grounds. That's just for starters start. A large stretch of the Teesdale Way can be walked from the site. Short drives can give you more walking on the Teesdale Way or The Pennine Way. Well worth a visit.....and you might well come back for more!

Great Hospitality...made very welcome.

My wife and I were en-route: Scotland to the south-east and phoned the site direct and secured a one night stopover ( the last pitch available!). We had a wonderful stay and were able to walkby the river into Barnard Castle to tour the English Heritage site of the ancient castle...fascinating, impressive location and views. We were allowed to stay by arrangement, after 12 noon the day of departure. This facilitated our castle visit and added to our relaxed visit . Would thoroughly recommend the site. The little touches of personalised planting and landscaping by site staff, were incredible! Well done!

Sad dog!

We love this site and were pleased to reschedule our booking from last year but I wish I had seen the info now on the webpage re loss of their wonderful dog exercise meadow. This is not in the 2021 handbook and we were very disappointed on behalf of our very energetic collie. Luckily the woodland walk into Barnard Castle had to suffice. However if you have mobility problems the only designated Dog area on site is so tiny and steep it cannot realistically be used for exercise. I hope when the development has been completed some allowance is made for better on-site dog walk. Rant over. We had a good few days with excellent facilities in accordance with Covid rules. Excellent position for access to town and riverside walks without having to drive.

Wonderful club site

Stayed 15th June 2021 for 4 nights Lovely staff who were all both very helpful and polite! The site is on a hilltop to the north west above Startforth & Barnard Castle. The pitches are flat hard standing and are very nicely laid out. It’s not a huge club site and it is exceptional well kept. The facilities are kept studiously clean and fresh. There is a small children’s park on-site. There are walks locally from the site and and we found plenty to do and places to visit in the Local area. Happy to highly recommend a stay here.

Great for Walks

Enjoyed our break at the site, lovely walks in the surrounding area. Wardens kept the site very clean. Unfortunately it rained heavily for a couple of days and the pitch flooded. Checking other pitches we seem to be unlucky. There was so much standing water on the pitch it half filled the awning. My husband built a dam with the stones on the pitch to channel the water away from the awning. I did report the state of the pitch to the Wardens.

Lovely Site

Just returned from our first visit to this site and it will not be our last. Very peaceful and well kept site and a credit to the Site Managers. Read some reviews about road noise but that certainly did not affect our stay. Nice walks to Barnard Castle through the woods. Safe COVID practices in place but non-compliance by some site users is frustrating. Can't wait to return!

Superb site

Our first visit to this site and doubt it will be our last! The wardens were so friendly and helpful and the facilities were absolutely immaculate.. It was any easy walk into the very pleasant Barnard castle, either by footpath through the woods or alongside the road. The Bowes museum was a must see, paying to see Castle ruins not so much our thing!

Another stay at this lovely site

This is our second visit to this site and apart from the dog walk field being ;most to redevelopment it was the same lovely site. As we don't like to move our motorhome after arrival, location ids important. The site has buses available at the gate and near direct access into Deepdale Nature Reserve with a shortish walk into Barnard Castle or numerous footpaths further into the Reserve. Barnard Castle has plenty of Shops and eateries as well as the famous Bowes Museum. We caught a bus to Middleton in Teesdale and walked back, partly along the Teesdale Railway Path, about 11 miles. A gentle walk with pub stops possible at Romaldkirk or Cotherstone. Previously I had walked the more strenuous Teesdale Way along the river from Middleton to Barnard Castle, another great walk. The proximity of the road is only a bit intrusive for pitches by the road and during the dy. At night there is no problem. Would highly recommend this site.
