Clean site but on a busy and noisy road

Small clean friendly site but next to a very busy noisy road during the day, lovely walk into town through the woods but don't walk down the main road as there is no path for most of the way and the cars drive very fast up and down the road. Easy access to the centre and other places for visiting. We stayed on a fully serviced pitch but it was too close to the road for my liking. Would probably go again but would ask for one of the electric only pitches furthest away from the road next time.

Nice but noisy

Nice site with great enclosed dog walking area - very noisy as next to busy main road. Don’t follow the site instruction to town there is little or no kerb and fast road rather turn left and go through woods which is a pleasant stroll if a bit uneven. Town worth the visit and has some nice shops and restaurants. Did not see any reasonable cycle routes, the town is the main attraction and suppose the famous optician !!

Stop Over

Stopped on way back from Scotland. Great book in by staff. Took pitch no 13 near gate and walked into town via the river route. Love to revisit site. Very well kept and again sensible rubber band system for using the facilities. Can the CAMC use this throughout the network? It works.

Excellent Site

Stayed for 3 nights early September. Been to site twice before as it is only 45 mins drive from our storage location and we are only making trips within a two hour drive from home. As usual site is immaculately maintained, one of the wardens was mowing the grass on site on arrival and was still on with it when we left....a forth road bridge exercise! WiFi on site was reasonable strength - I was able to download my daily newspaper onto my tablet in a couple of minutes. Site is a nice walk into town across river bridge, bit steep climb up on other side of river but not too bad. Parking car in town easy and not too bad a price £1.20 for 2 hours in car park next to Morrisons superstore; this allows you walking access to the town main street. Town has lots of nice shops and several very good restaurants - we visited the Capri Italian restaurant who do excellent lunch and early bird meals £8 for 2 courses. A 15 mile drive gets you to High Force Waterfall which is well worth the drive. Nice pub doing snacks etc at the entrance. A 7 mile drive gets you to Raby Castle which if you are members of Historic Houses is free, but £13 PP for castle entry and gardens. Free parking on site - Nice snack bar in old stables. Overall we really enjoyed our stay

Lovely location

Really nice site and welcoming staff, The only down side which is not related to the site is the walk into the town down the main road, although there is a bit of a path it was slightly overgrown and had it been wet would have not been a pleasant walk this however is nothing to do with the site which was clean tidy lovely staff and everything was explained. The walk into town took about 10 minutes and the town is very nice with everything one needs in a market town.

Great little site within walking distance to Barnard Castle

Stayed here for a week in August. Had a great time on this site. The staff were friendly and helpful. Especially good site if you have dogs which we have. We stayed here 5 years ago and back then it didn't have a field to exercise your dog but now it does and the dogs thoroughly enjoyed it. On our last day a young deer went through the field which was lovely to see. Lots to do and see in the area. Barnard Castle is only about 10 minutes away by foot and lovely walks along the river side. The only small issue we had on the site was due to the restrictions in the shower/toilet block which only allows 2 people in at a time i think 3 would have been easily manageable. The queues could get quite long especially when people forgot to take their wristbands which meant people were queuing when they did not need to and also people not taking due care and wandering off with other caravaners wristbands. None of this unduly spoilt our holiday and would definitely not stop us from staying at this site again in the future. All in all a lovely holiday had.

A lovely site and holiday.

We had a lovely time on this site. The wardens were lovely. Their wrist band system worked well and there was never really any waiting for the toilet block. Having a unisex toilet helped. There is a lovely walk from the site into town, crossing over the river. While there isn't a footpath all the way down it is no trouble walking down the road. When you walk down to town before the road curves right, turn left by a cottage and follow the footpath, well more of a road, for a lovely walk. You can follow this right to the next village. We were pitched just through the barrier. Though near the road, you get used to the traffic and after a while don't really notice it. We wish we had stayed longer so hope to return. Well done to the wardens for a lovely clean site.

Nice site, but not for us

Immaculate site with spacious gravel pitches, well managed and with good Covid measures, and lovely wardens. There were, however problems, for us anyway, which led to us leaving early. The site is very close to a road which, although B classification, was very busy at the time of our stay. The road surface was noisy and much of the traffic very fast, starting early in the morning. We were pitched close to the road, but the pitches further in may have had the peace and tranquility mentioned in some reviews which ours sadly lacked. Visitors should be aware that pedestrian access to the town via the road starts off along a narrow verge of uncut grass, very close to the moving traffic, and becomes steep nearer the town. We also felt that cycling out of the site would be dangerous in the traffic conditions. The alternative is a path down through the woods, steep and narrow to begin with, before it reaches a pleasant wider path through a nature reserve and along the stream to the town.

Visited to test our eyesight!

Stayed at this site on numerous occasions, good site and a great area. Site clean and tidy, with friendly, polite wardens. COVID system in place worked very well, wristbands with pitch numbers are given to you and these are hung on a peg outside toilet block to allow 2 members to use facilities at any one time. Thought the area seemed busier than normal, as we have been at this time of year before, it could be the notoriety or perhaps the wider public enjoying a staycation.
