White or blue??

Arrived Friday pm later than we usually would due to work commitments but still daylight and we were greeted by a warm welcome in reception. We had and always do book an awning pitch, not always with the view to putting an awning up but the choice is there should we choose and also the pitches are bigger. To be told that we had booked a non awning pitch left me dismayed as we hadn't but it came to light that there was 3 awning pitches out of action - had that been explained and our later arrival meant we had lucked out, I wouldn't have minded but to be told we had booked something we hadn't and had proof, a little unprofessional. The warden told me to choose a 'white peg' and she would just bump someone else off who was only stopping one night. In the end, we chose a non awning pitch as the empty ones were better positioned on the site than the odd white peg one we found. We reported back to the warden our choice of pitch and all was good in the end. If there has been a mix up or a maintenance issue, totally acceptable and explainable, making us out to be wrong isn't!! All that being said, wardens are very friendly, site clean as always with great facilities. We cannot fault this site apart from it's peak time prices so winter breaks here are just the ticket. It is always busy so booking early is advisable although when the newer part of the site is opened up again for the main season, I would say that would alleviate pitch availability.

Art on Merseyside.

We had a weekend here as a location from which to visit Tate Liverpool and Another Place, the Anthony Gormley sculptures on Crosby Beach at Sefton. The trip into Liverpool is easy on the train. Around ÂŁ5 for a return ticket and trains running every 15 minutes. Journey time is around 40 minutes. The walk from the site to the train station takes around 30 minutes but do take the upper path from the site through the park and straight out to Rotten Row. The lower path is very muddy and we arrived looking as if we had done a 10 mile trek over wet moorland. A notice warning members of that, at the gate would have been appreciated. Tate Liverpool was fantastic. Most of the exhibits were free so we had a happy afternoon for the price of the rail ticket (and lunch in the Tate Cafe which, can be recommended). Bring a torch for the walk back to the site as the road is unlit. Another Place was wonderful. Easy and reasonably priced parking which was easily suitable for our 6m motorhome. Around 30 minute drive from the site. There is also a cycle path which we saw lots of people using. The site itself is very well maintained, the facilities are clean and warm. There is road noise at night but the site placement and access to Liverpool etc really makes up for that.

Relaxing site

Been here a few times and never had any problems. The site is very well located both for the town and beach. You can hear some road noise but generally not a problem.

Lovely Southport

We haven't visited for over 2 years so decided on a 6 night stay between christmas and new year. This is a really good site with excellent large pitches (on the newer section) and a modern warm facilities block. Our young dog (his 1st visit) loved his walks in the sand dunes right outside the site.Great for walking around Southport - shops and pier. Unfortunately the weather was very wet and windy and some pitches were unavailable due to flooding. Didn't see much of the wardens other than booking in and when they were out in their 'buggy' but always acknowledged us - just what you need really. We will always keeping coming back to this wonderful site for its great facilities and location.

Well kept and located

This site is of the usual CAMC standard for cleanliness and tidiness. Immaculate heated toilet blocks. Great location for Southport - shops, restaurants and pubs. Staff are efficient and formal rather than warm and friendly. They still insist that it is mandatory for motorhomes to park in a particular orientation, the coloured post is sacrosanct! Excellent site for dogs with the beach, sand dunes and park nearby.

Good site but speeding vehicles around site

Visited this site as part of a tour when visiting family down south. Site very clean and tidy and toilet block (new) lovely. Staff friendly. Good location and good parks near for dog walks. Can hear traffic noise at night. Main problem is that no one sticks to 5mph! Cars were speeding around site! It was quiet, but really no excuse. Staff also appear to go over this in the golf type buggies which I'm guessing sets president. Either this or our van speedo means we crawl everywhere! Just be careful especially if you have pets or children!

Weekend away

Stayed last weekend after trying a few times but always fully booked. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Facilities was very clean. Very near to Southport centre, about 10 minutes walk with a supermarket, water and fun park even closer. Great relaxing weekend, hopefully weather will be better next time we visit.

Many visits

Visited this site many times great location lots to do with the children and dogs, however it was the first time many pitches were under water. Rain not pleasant this weekend but not the sites fault. Everywhere was waterlogged and muddy. The bikes are a pain and the rain seemed to make it louder than normal, also agree the people using these sites need to be careful and adhere to the 5mph signs.

First time stay - excellent

Stayed last week end for the first time as our normal camp site nearer the town was full. This site in quite big, well laid out and all the services and washrooms were exceptionally clean and warm! The young lady in reception was very polite and helpful. Only a 15 minute walk to get to lord street and all the shops. Morrison’s very close bye for all your needs and the fair ground is 5 minutes away so good for taking the kids out for the day. Very quite and peaceful in the evening. Excellent pitches. Definitely going back soon!
