just returned from this site, great location, the site is very well kept and clean and the toilets were superbly clean, staff were friendly and always acknowledged you, will return
Great site
Warm welcome great pitches and facilities well looked after and friendly wardens. Plenty to see and do well worth a visit.
Excellent site.
We stayed for a week at the end of August, a first visit and certainly not our last. A great site, the usual Caravan Club standards were very evident and much appreciated. Staff were helpful and not intrusive. Definitely will return even though we are local to this area (40 miles away is local !). We brought 1 of the grandchildren and although there are no childrens facilities on site, Southport is such a lovely resort we were never at a loss for things to do. The weather being fabulous helps of course. I have a walking disability and the provisions made for disabled campers is always 1st class on the Club Sites and this was no exception. Much appreciated.
Southport
We arrived and checked in, the staff in reception were very friendly and helpful, our first visit here, we stayed on a serviced pitch in our motorhome, the pitch had loads of room, and plenty of room between pitches. The site was very tidy and the toilets/showers were the cleanest I’ve seen so far. The other campers were all friendly and although our kids are older, we all enjoyed our stay, our pooch also had lots of fun. Would gladly stay here again.
Perfectly good site but not for us
We spent 2 nights on this site in June while making our way back north towards the end of a 3 week trip. The site is large, open and well kept. The facilities are excellent. There was some noise on one night from motor bikes on a near bye road but this stopped by about 10 o'clock. The walk into town is pleasant and took us about 20 minutes, passing a large supermarket on the way. The town is large but we found it rather lacking in character. The seaside and pier area is also large, impressive and well looked after, but unfortunately for us, its undoubted charm remained hidden. The nearest pub to our pitch was the Fisherman's Rest. This is a popular, pleasant, well presented pub with an outside seating area overlooking the car park. Although the pub is not dog friendly, dogs are allowed in this area. While staying here we took the opportunity to visit Antony Gormley's "Another Place" at Crosby Beach - very enjoyable and much recommended. This site will be ideal for many people and we can't criticise it other than to say it isn't for us.
three days in southport
since our last visit a few years ago the site is still the same great place to stay and handy for the town only thing I see is the prices creeping up glad we had first week in July not 3rd week
come on make this club better for the members
BUNNIES EVERYWHERE
What a lovely surprise when I woke up to see bunnies everywhere - how cute. Lovely site near sand dunes, nature trail and Victoria Park which was great for dog walking. The showers were a bit of a walk and the motorhome service point was a bit of a squeeze but were lovely and also very clean.
First Visit to Southport Site
We have recently stayed at Southport site on a service pitch. We arrived after 7pm and was met by a warden. He told us the only service pitch available was 102 and handed me the facilities and barrier key. Had to open the barrier myself which meant getting out of the car as the barrier post is not very convenient when you have a twin axle caravan hitched up. You then have to be quick before it starts to come down.
We found the pitch and set up. The site was pretty full but was quiet and peaceful. We are elderly so getting the awning threaded through the channel is hard. We were helped by the warden - very pleasant and we were thankful. After pumping the air channels came the time to peg out. The hardcore on the pitches is difficult to penetrate and we found it impossible. Robert on pitch 103 loaned his electric drill but that too was almost defeated and a number of metal screw pegs were damaged. He said he had that pitch last year and he too had extreme difficulty pegging out. Can it be investigated?
The sand dunes are lovely and each day with my dog we explored them and also the beach beyond the Coastal Road. The sea however is very elusive and the long pier does not get its uprights visited by the surf - did it ever? The Edwardian town is nicely presented and I feel a lot of effort is spent making it decorative and welcoming
Would we visit again? Yes - but there needs to be more service pitches and there needs to be consideration with the choice of hardcore. A mallet should suffice to put the pegs in and that is not the case at present. So be warned - take your electric drill!
50/50
Good site as has been mentioned for position, facilities etc. We had a lovely pitch in the shade(18) and despite the last review the staff were pleasant and professional.
My point is that whilst the old part of the site has a countryside ,green feel about it ,the new side looks and feels like a car park.....and there was no obvious work going on to change that environment
We love to go on our travels and wake up to a new view every site we visit. So having just come back from trips to Scotland you can imagine the contrast with Southport would not have been positive if we had found ourselves on the new side
I hope the club can review its apparent plans for this site and start planting soon
Good site poor reception on arrival
I arrived on site to be met by a miserable woman perhaps she had a busy day. I booked in and was told to find a suitable pitch. What she did not tell me was the site was almost full and where I might find a pitch and after a 420 mile drive you do not feel much like searching a 180 pitch site.
I drove to the barrier only to sit there like an idiot because she had forgotten to raise the barrier. Back to office no one there luckily I found her outside watering the flowers.
Not a great start but a really nice site well kept and a great area.
