Just spent 9 nights at this site. All the usual standards that you would expect from the club.
the site is well located for access to southport itself. great for walking dogs. Had a great week.
the end of our week was may day bank holiday. Lots of children then on site and boy did we know it. Toilets then became disgusting, bicycle races on the roads. football played on the roads. this is all well and good but there was playing fields and a park next to the site with playground. why does such a wonderful site have to be spoiled by people who just can't be bothered. It is such a shame. My sympathy goes out to the poor person who had to clean the toilets that weekend.
Great site with fabulous facilities but why so many dogs ?
This is a very well kept immaculate site with great wardens and location is good for Southport but dear me the number of dogs is getting out of control. The pitch next to us has 7 dogs. 7 dogs! How can that be allowed on a club site and how can it be acceptable for these dogs to foul the grass area in between pitches? Surely there is a max number of dogs per unit? Totally unacceptable.
Windy!
We learned that this coastline is fairly breezy most of the time and to avoid the worst of it when on site pitch nearer the town side. The rabbits weren't bothered by the wind though. As a site it wasn't really for us but we were glad the Amusement Park was not within earshot. Plenty of bird watching to be done if you go north of the site. NCN 62 starts in Southport and runs alongside the main road towards Formby, so you still get the noise and you can't see the sea. That said, having reached Freshfields and the adjacent Formby Point (NT) after about 8 miles that made up for the journey as it was lovely for walking and cycling. Southport's main street is mightily impressive but then as it formed a blueprint for Paris you'd expect this; try the lovely quaint Westminster Tea Rooms (cash or cheque ONLY!) and there's a frequent train service into Liverpool which we didn't get round to using but if we return, we will.
Lack of Warden Control
Stayed here for 5 nights over the Easter holiday. The noise from the nearby coast road at night was bad due to boy racers and emergency vehicle sirens until the early hours. Although the site was tidy the wardens only ever seemed to appear twice a day too empty the bins (which during the peak days should have been at least three times a day as they were always overflowing) and the once a day when the toilet blocks were cleaned. This resulted in poor pitching and parking on the pitches and some people parked there cars at the front of the pitch and onto the road ways making the site look like a normal road, also a lot noise during the day due to loud music, and when we did complain it took a warden some time to walk round and listen then do nothing about it.
Overall a reasonable site with some nice surroundings but could better controlled and some basic maintenance duties carried out.
Lovely site!
I stayed here for one night with my young daughter and her friend. We loved it. We checked in at around 7pm and the friendly warden greeted and opened up for us. We picked pitch 6 which was a short stroll to the very clean and modern toilet block and washing up facilities and a service point behind us. There were lots of rabbits which was a nice treat! This is a quiet site in a great location. There was a small park which the children visited and it's a short walk to the beach and eco centre where you can get a bus into the town centre. Southport has a lot to offer and I will definitely be staying at this site again.
Love this site.... can't wait to stay again.
We stayed at this site the weekend of the 24th - 25th of March 2019. Wow... we love this site. The site is in a fantastic location for us as we have a nine year old Autistic son. On one side of the site you have Victoria Park and on the other you have some sand hills. He love it and drove is RC car there. You are so close to so many things to do that you don't need to worry about parking. You have within walking distance the fair ground, Victoria Park, the sand hills, model railway, model village, Southport Pier and much more. The site itself is spotless, I could not fault it. Large pitches, well maintained site with very clean showers and toilets. Great access to dog walking. We will visit again this year... 5 *****
Very relaxed and enjoyable
Stayed 2 nights, Friday just chilled and Saturday went to the wirral club site to see what it was like (looks inviting) then into Liverpool to the Albert Docks and Maritime Museum, Good trip
First visit, but not the last.
First visit to this site. Great location, quiet but convenient for both Southport and Birkdale. Friendly and helpful staff and really nice, well maintained facilities.
Excellent weekend at Southport
We had a lovely weekend at Southport Club Site last week, helped by very spring-like weather in February.
The site is really well set up with plenty of facilities and good access for dog walking in local park and also to the Town Centre.
This was our first time out in our new motorhome and we had a bit of a mechanical problem when we came to empty the grey water. Simon, one of the Wardens, came over and sorted this out for us, which was a great help as my husband is somewhat disabled and would not have been able to sort this himself. He is a credit to the Club.
Overall the other staff were also very friendly and helpful.
Spotlessly clean, friendly site staff....But
As we have always found, this site was immaculate, both the shower block and the site itself.
The staff were very friendly and welcoming.
This is an excellent site for just parking up and walking to the town centre, and all other facilities (if you are reasonable mobile, and if not, there is a park and ride nearby)
Excellent bus and train connections in Southport centre. The Atkinson building is always warm welcoming and has interesting exhibitions, cafe, library, and tourist information.
Now the BUT:
We were dismayed to find the large section of the site barred to members, as was its associated shower block. Never experienced this before here, and the site spaciousness was one of its plus points. Now everyone is confined to a smaller area and one shower block. And to cap it all, of the 6 mens showers in that block, 3 had been taken out of service. This meant I had to queue for a shower at 07:30am!! Not amused. I raised this with the staff, and they said they would sort out the out of service showers. Result - one extra shower opened up, presumably grudgingly as it the water supply was left turned off.
Come on the Club and Southport site, stop being so mean and restrictive, employ enough staff so we can use all the faculties we have paid for!!
