Great site

This is in a ideal location for seeing IOW. It was clean and tidy, wardens worked constantly to keep it that way. There is a pub in walking distance The Pointer (booking recommended) there is a short cut from the back of the site ask the wardens. The Garlic farm is not far away and worth a visit. TV reception and wifi was good. Would definatley stay here again.

Superb site especially the grass pitches

This site is excellent, especially if you opt for the grass pitches which are kept in immaculate condition and are very level and well drained. Best of all they are reasonably private with enormous hedges providing shelter and an attractive appearance. I took the opportunity to inspect the hardstanding pitches while I was there and felt these to be less attractive. There is nothing particularly wrong with them but they did not benefit from the superb hedges and privacy of the grass pitches. The deal where you get the ferry crossing included makes this a very reasonably priced site and the longer you stay the better value it is! There is a lot to do in the area with an excellent cycle route on the Red Squirrel Trail on the site of the former railway line, which goes to nearby Sandown and Shanklin and also has a branch up to Newport and Cowes. Another outstanding local attraction is the Garlic Farm to which entry is free. This has it all with a lovely walk, a superb cafe and a shop, selling just about anything and everything to do with garlic. The car park even has a free EV charging point! The site facilities are very good although there isn't much of a shop. Newchurch hasn't got one either, but there is an excellent pub The Pointer Inn. Although Newchurch is very close it is not a pleasant walk there, as the road is quite busy and has no pavements for much of it length. I'd also add that the staff on the site is extremely friendly and helpful. I will definitely be returning!

Wonderful stay for our family of 6

Our first booking of the season post covid restrictions. What a wonderful site. Kept in brilliant condition. All the staff were so helpful. Every pitch is set in its own section, beautifully sectioned by high hedges. The playground was brilliant for my 3 kids. Probably the best one we have found on a site. The dog walk is quite short but great that you can let dog off lead. So close to all the attractions but far enough away that it feels quiet. We found a lovely forest half a mile away that was great to walk our dogs. I can’t recommend this site enough. Well done guys.

Brilliant

It was a real joy to stay at this site for the second time. It is very clear to see that the wardens take a great deal of pride in keeping this site tip top. We stayed at the end of October until early November (when it closed), and was amazed to see everything looking so clean and well cared for at this time of year. We had a serviced pitch, but all the pitches seemed large. The WiFi worked extremely well. All the wardens were extremely friendly and helpful, and deserve a big pat on the back. We will be back!

Good clean site

Very well run site run by a lovely very helpful couple who even gave us some of their milk when we had run out and did n't want payment.Toilet block was kept very clean and site was quiet partly as some pitches were being renovated.Excellent food at the Pointer Inn but need to book. Very impressed especially as we stayed at a more expensive site on the island where the shower and toilet block leaves a lot to be desired.

Super site on the Isle of Wight.

This is a lovely site which is beautifully maintained. Having read some negative reviews I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was very quiet and peaceful. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There is a nice dog walking area where you can let your dog off the lead and 2 dog areas for a doggie toilet stop. We had no problems with access to the toilet block. When I used the facilities, there was never anyone else there. The whole thing felt very Covid safe. It is less than 10 minutes walk to The Pointer Inn which does very good food. You will have to book as it tends to get quite busy. The site is well situated for exploring this very lovely Island. We really enjoyed our visit to Osborne House and the drive from Ventnor to Freshwater is stunning. Thank you Southland for a lovely stay, we will be back.

Another lovely time at Southland

We have been staying here for the last 11 years , sometimes twice a year as we have family living on the lovely Isle of Wight. During this time we have found this site to be spotlessly clean , the shower block tidy and plenty of hot water. Martin and Janet do a fantastic job of running this site and will be a very hard act to follow when they move on at the end of this season. We would like to thank them both for all their help over the years and for being there for their guests . The site has many large trees and bushes and is maintained in an excellent condition by carefully ensuring that the grass is cut regularly and the trees and bushes maintained in shape. We will be very sorry to see you go and wish you the best of luck with your new site. I am sure we will meet agin. Michael and Jill and Webley Allam

A well-run site

Just returned from a 10 day stay at Southland. The site wardens are all very welcoming, helpful and enthusiastic - which is no mean feat in these challenging Covid19 times. The grounds and facilities are well maintained but this does lead to a lot of activity during the day involving mini-tractors and ground maintenance equipment. I would suggest that it is probably a good idea to plan a full day’s activity off site if you are likely to find the noise disturbing. WC/shower blocks were kept clean and felt safe to use. Personally, we found the system of bands in Milton solution worked reasonably well except when users forgot to return them to the bin after visiting the facilities. The restriction on the number of users to 6 at any one time felt a little too strict but I appreciate that the Club and its resident staff need to exercise caution and manage risks as they feel appropriate. I would very happily recommend a stay here.

Not as good as before

We have stayed here many times and always enjoyed our stay, however this was an exception. We were parked next to one of the wardens and they seemed to have family staying with them who were very noisy until late at night, I understand the reason for the noise, but.... The wristband system did not work, many a time there were wristbands in the bucket, but no one in the toilets, also didn't like having to submerse my hand in the bucket, the wristbands on hooks used by other club sites is a better option. Also, cannot understand why some of the toilets and sinks are not in use due to Covid, when other business with smaller toilet blocks are able to keep them open, the risk is surely higher if we are all using the one sink? We are all aware and able to social distance as we have been doing this for months now

Stay here ruined by relentless Tractor engine noise.

If you want some peace and quiet then don’t come here. All day long, non stop, they drive round and round and round on incredibly noisy polluting tractor mowers. There really isn’t a quiet moment in the day. When they go past your whole unit vibrates and this goes on and on and on all day. How our Club is allowing this beggars belief. They cut the grass every day to a millimetre of its life which is probably why so many pitches are bare. As well as the constant tractor noise they have ear splitting leaf blowers and hedge trimmers. Making the site look nice is pointless if members can’t sit outside and enjoy it. I certainly won’t be back.
