Lovely site

We spent 10 nights at this lovely site and are pitch number was 29 a lovely pitch from 23rd July to 1st August.. Lovely clean and well kept site. The wardens Kath and John were very friendly and helpful. There was an old gentleman called Tom there he was 94 and they were always checking on him. His car broke down and John wad so helpful to Tom. New Quay is a lovely place it was just all the hills on the coast that I was not over keen on but tat is the way it goes. You do need to follow the instructions from the Caravan Club to get to the site as there are a lot of narrow roads. With the COVID restrictions only two people at a time were allowed in the toilet block but that was fine by us we just waited if we had to. I don’t think it is a site for children as there is nothing for them to do on site. It is a very relaxing site well worth a visit.

Lovely small site, shame about the condition of local footpaths

We enjoyed our stay at Shawsmead, the site itself was small but excellently maintained and we have no complaints at all about that and the wardens were lovely. We cycled to Aberaeron and New Quay along the small country roads, which was great, although we were disappointed that there was no proper provision for cycle parking in New Quay. Thankfully a kind shop-keeper allowed us to use her railings. The big disappointment was the poor condition of access to local footpaths. We tried walking in two directions from the site and found footpaths completely blocked by overgrown thorn bushes, a broken gate that wouldn't open and a partially burnt bonfire in the middle of the same footpath hindering access (deliberately we think). Other site users told us of similar experiences on other nearby footpaths too, so if walking from the site is a big part of the attraction for you then beware of this problem. Obviously this is not the fault of the club or the wardens and if you are not concerned about walking from the site then add an extra star!

Return visit after nearly 15 years

Following Caravan Club guidelines on the route to take to this site is important to avoid unsuitable roads. Once here access is easy to a mixture of grass and hardstanding pitches on a sloping site. Motorhomes may require levelling blocks. Compared to some sites the toilet block is old looking but as always it was maintained to a high standard. Booking in was different from other sites on the network in early July 2021 with a brown envelope to pick up from the information hut with siting instructions. Once pitched you then ring the site and pay over the phone. It is a quiet secluded site and you feel that you can unwind here. I spotted a red kite flying over the site, a real treat. Access to tourist spots is good from here and a useful leaflet was provided in the brown envelope of local destinations. Many seemed only suited to cars rather than motorhomes and being a cautious type would Google Earth and street view many of these locations to assess whether I could access them in my van. There's much to enjoy here. A lovely part of the world. I had hoped to stay an hour until 1.00pm but was refused by the warden because he needed to cut the grass. I watched him do it as I dumped my water. It took him less than one minute. I don’t ask many favours from the Club but was disappointed to be refused. I thought it was churlish.

Hidden Gem of a site.

My family and I stayed here for 4 nights and it was superb. It wasnt long enough. The location is good as no road noise, its really relaxing and chilling is so easy to do here.

The site managers are friendly and are willing to accommodate each individual to the best of their ability.

The facilities are immaculate and cleanliness is 5* plus. I sat and watched how the cleaning was done and believe me they were very thorough. Removing any cobwebs from the eaves, dusting of the ledges, polishing of the glass in front of the sinks, (many sites just give a quick once over), not here the way it was done was meticulous. Everything about this site shows how dedicated the staff are to the site being a success. Also making sure that visitors are looked after very well and that they find the facilities and the standards acceptable.

There is plenty to do, you can take a quick drive to New Quay which is a must the sea is amazing blue, clear, and clean. Aberaeron is a short drive away a pretty little town found on the way to Aberystwyth, which is also a must too for their fish and chips.

Honestly I don't think you'll find a better more clean, pristine, cared for site situated in a perfect location.

You can relax here and forget about the world. You won't be disturbed by any passing traffic. The only noise you'll hear is the mower as the manager is particular about having his grass cut and looking perfect. (Not a bad thing). The whole experience of staying here was a positive one.

Go on treat yourself to a perfect hidden little gem for a few days or a week or two, however long you stay will not be long enough.

Will we return? YES definitely we will be going back for another stay and this time it will be longer than 4 nights.

Excellence here is 5***

Thankyou Shawsmead we will see you again.

Quiet, out of way

This site is quiet and probably a little remotely located for motorhomes. Nearest shop is 40 minutes walk. Everything clean and tidy as per CAMC standards, Amenity capacity for Covid restrictions appeared to be a little overzealous in that only two allowed in at one time given that only two showers or two toilets were available - if both showers in use then toilets were effectively out of use. Quite narrow roads around site and probably not for nervous cyclists.

Excellent site, highly recommended

Stayed here in our VW camper for 4 nights, early June 2021. Very friendly, efficient meet-and-greet on arrival. Spotlessly clean showers/loos/washing up area, with clear and concise COVID arrangements. Very quiet, rural site in lovely countryside with well-tended pitches. 3 on-site "service stations" for fresh water, recycling, grey waste- and poo tank disposal. One MSP for water fill-up. Grass areas all neatly mown and some nice flower/shrubs planted. Small but useful info. hut with details of local activities and amenities. About 45 minutes drive to Aberystwyth, 15 minutes to Aberaeron. Petrol/diesel fuel in Llanarth. Good SPAR/NISA shops on road to Aberystwyth, 10 minutes or so from site. Excellent value and very highly recommended. Thanks very much to the wardens who do a great job.

Spring bank holiday 21

Very clean site nice wardens both temporary and main wardens, we had to use a hard standing as the grass was not in use the only thing I would say is some of the hard standings are quite narrow, and will not accommodate a car caravan and awning in the normal way, I would suggest the smaller pitches should be designated as a none awning pitch, this shouldn't be a problem has lots of motorhomes and campervans use the site, and they could still use awnings on these pitches.

1 night stay travelling North to South....

Arrived after 5 to be met by the warden who welcomed me & explained paperwork was in the information hut in an envelope with my name on it.... fine by me. As I was only staying the one night, payment could be made in the morning before departure, trustworthy I thought ;-) Pitches 1 - 11 back onto the road from which you enter, a quiet 'B' road or so I thought..... It was much noisier than I expected, especially with lorries, perhaps made worse by the damp road conditions! However, it is a nicely laid out site within distance of New Quay, Aberaeron & Aberystwyth.

Very quiet site but within close proximity of several coastal villages

Unlike arriving at other club sites we were approached outside reception and told to collect site info from a hut next to reception. I know we are all keeping safe but thought this was a bit extreme, verging on being a little bit rude? Very quiet site, not within walking distance of anywhere, but we drove to nearby New Quay which is lovely and Aberaeron. Was really just a stop gap for us on our trip from North to South Wales.

Great site

This is a lovely site; great location for exploring the west coast of Wales, with lots of places to visit and beaches to explore. The site staff were fantastic, really helpful and always out and about. Lovely rural views, with red kites circling over head and a sea view.
