Peaceful and clean

I found the wardens to be polite and professional, maybe not overly friendly but pleasant enough, and certainly they did a good job of keeping the site and facilities in tip-top condition. No complaints at all. As it's a rural setting it would have been nice to have a well-stocked little shop on site for essentials, whereas even the ice cream freezer was empty. Very peaceful setting, we watched red kites in the woods behind us, and enjoyed our three night's stay here and will be back.

Quiet site in peaceful rural setting

We enjoyed our stay at Shawsmead - four nights over Easter and only hardstanding pitches so relatively quiet. It is clearly well-managed and all facilities very clean and tidy. We were able to choose our pitch which had distant sea views - all pitches are level and easy to access. We will definitely come back.

Lovely site, shame about the warden

We have stayed here three times as we love the peace and quiet and yes we have children! We keep the kids entertained so not having a play area is not a big deal, however it's always a bonus to have a dedicated area for kids to play and have fun. This site does not have any area for kids to play, so keep this in mind if you have children. The site is close to New Quay and Aberaeron, both places we love to visit. The site is very peaceful and the block is always warm and very clean. Our only negative was the attitude of the warden, he was very bossy and rude and his overall presence was a bit scary. He was always waiting for someone to step out of line so he could give them a good telling off!!! Shame really as we like the site but his attitude has put us off.

Lovely little site

Stayed here for 2 nights on our ‘tour of Wales’. Lovely quiet, small site, nestled in rolling green countryside with plenty of wildlife around (including red kites!). Sheltered location out of the wind with lots of hardstandings. Wardens very warm and friendly and not excessively ‘COVID-phobic’ (unlike some others we have encountered in Wales). Restriction were properly applied here, but not in a way that made your stay uncomfortable. Easy drive to New Quay and other picturesque spots on the the nearby coastline. Great for a peaceful break from the ‘rat race’ but we would imagine it would be unsuitable for families with young children. I’m sure we’ll be back!

Lovely site and very friendly staff

Some mixed reviews made us slightly nervous, but what a very nice surprise. Very quiet location and clearly not the best site for children as some have said, but if you look at the information, you would know what to expect! The staff were very friendly and helpful and the facilities were maintained spotlessly. Good for visiting some lovely spots along the coast and inland. Would certainly return if back that way again.

An Excellent Site

We booked Shawsmead as we needed somewhere fairly near to home to give our 2 youngest grandchildren experience of sleeping in our Camper and in a small tent, prior to taking them to France next year (hopefully). Two days after booking, our son drew our attention to a small number of reviews critical of the site staff in relation thier attitude to children. Having spent two nights at Shawsmead, We have nothing but praise for the staff at this well run site. It is spotlessly clean and the staff were really friendly and helpful. Both grandchildren felt very comfortable at the site and wnat to go back again. Certainly we will be returning to this oasis of calm as a couple in the future. It is in the country and there is no childrens play area as the site is not big enough, but it is a short drive to the coast and all it has to offer. Please, do not let the small number of critics put you off what is an excellent site. Gerwyn and Betty Dennis

where do I start.................. if you have children AVOID

Not at all child friendly and to be honest was made very clear the warden dislikes children and families with children! We got told NOT to call him a warden he is a MANAGER he also told us a family of 2 adults and one very well behaved child 'that he doesn't give two monkeys about reviews (his words not mine) he has been doing this job for over 20 years and doesn't need to care about reviews" we was made to feel so unwelcome that after 7 days of our 16 day holiday we packed up and left! I can honestly say if this had been my first experience of the caravan club I would be cancelling my membership, we have been a member for several years now and have luckily never come across this type of warden or MANAGER as he liked to be addressed I will be making a full complaint direct to the caravan club after all we pay for our membership and we pay for our stays at caravan club sites and certainly don't expect to be treated in such a rude manner.

Not child friendly

Well kept and tidy site, good pitches although the top tier should be allocated to motor homes without car to make the wider pitches available for caravan with awnings, allowing for a car to be parked along side. Warden or as he prefers to be called the ‘Manager’ not the friendliest, don’t turn up 10 minutes earlier than the arrival time. Nothing for children to do and they will be told off if they entertain their selves, 3 children 9,10 & 12 year olds made friends from 3 different outfits not related all got told not to be nuisances for being children just playing around the site. Newquay great beach for children.

Lovely site

We spent 10 nights at this lovely site and are pitch number was 29 a lovely pitch from 23rd July to 1st August.. Lovely clean and well kept site. The wardens Kath and John were very friendly and helpful. There was an old gentleman called Tom there he was 94 and they were always checking on him. His car broke down and John wad so helpful to Tom. New Quay is a lovely place it was just all the hills on the coast that I was not over keen on but tat is the way it goes. You do need to follow the instructions from the Caravan Club to get to the site as there are a lot of narrow roads. With the COVID restrictions only two people at a time were allowed in the toilet block but that was fine by us we just waited if we had to. I don’t think it is a site for children as there is nothing for them to do on site. It is a very relaxing site well worth a visit.

Lovely small site, shame about the condition of local footpaths

We enjoyed our stay at Shawsmead, the site itself was small but excellently maintained and we have no complaints at all about that and the wardens were lovely. We cycled to Aberaeron and New Quay along the small country roads, which was great, although we were disappointed that there was no proper provision for cycle parking in New Quay. Thankfully a kind shop-keeper allowed us to use her railings. The big disappointment was the poor condition of access to local footpaths. We tried walking in two directions from the site and found footpaths completely blocked by overgrown thorn bushes, a broken gate that wouldn't open and a partially burnt bonfire in the middle of the same footpath hindering access (deliberately we think). Other site users told us of similar experiences on other nearby footpaths too, so if walking from the site is a big part of the attraction for you then beware of this problem. Obviously this is not the fault of the club or the wardens and if you are not concerned about walking from the site then add an extra star!
