Pretty site in a rural location close to New Quey. Transport is an absolute requirement so be prepared to drive your motorhime unless you have a car. The site does not have any fecillities for dog walking, you need to drive to the local walks. Similarly if you want to eat out you will have to be prepared to drive.
Spotless well maintained shower/toilet block. Same can be said for the grounds and pitches.
If you want peace and quite this is the place.
No facillities for children i.e. play areas etc
Peaceful, tranquil and relaxing
A warm welcome will be given for anyone visiting Shawmeads. We were greeted on arrival, had our pitch explained to us and a map of the site provided. Although this is not unusual the friendliness of the staff was very much appreciated. We had a choice of two hard standing pitches, and both of which were in great locations. Close to the facilities and service points. As with other reviews, it is essential to have some form of transport as the site is down country lanes. Aberaeron is the closest town, a small harbour, Chinese, chippy and pizza restaurant. There are also a couple of pubs. It’s very colourful and friendly and well worth a visit if only to taste the Hive ice cream and sit and watch to world go by. If you fancy going on a boat trip, pay Dolphin Spotting Boat Trips a visit in New Quay. Jonathan Evans and his team are friendly, helpful and very informative. As a wheelchair user they accommodated me and my two cats onboard and ensured we had a great time. The slipway is very steep, but no steps and plenty if help available, you only need to ask. Unfortunately the wet fish shop was closed when we were visiting, and therefore I didn’t get my crab sandwiches, but the chippy, pasty shop all open and serving great options. There is some beautiful scenery, waterfalls and lovely places to visit locally. Well worth a visit, and can’t wait to return later in the year.
If it's peace & tranquillity you seek - you've found it
If it's peace and tranquillity in a rural setting you seek; look no further than Shawsmead. A lovely site, pitches could be wider and there can be a bit of jiggling getting into some of those in the corners. But all in all, there's plenty of room. It's well laid out and immaculate. Spotless shower block, absolute pleasure to shower in there. The roads are typical rural Wales narrow, winding lanes so take the CAMC directions advise with the roads to take.
With nearby seaside villages like New Quay (try the Lime Crab chippy) and Aberaeron (likewise the New Celtic chippy) you'll have lots to see and do. The beaches on the West Coast of Wales rival anywhere in the UK.
We had our dogs with us, the lanes are narrow so be mindful. Apparently they're in the process of fencing off a dog walk area on site which will be a bonus.
You'll need transport - don't rely on public transport, it doesn't exist and there's no way you'll walk to anything like a shop, pub etc - it's all reliant on you having a car.
It's set in a beautiful part of the world, it's peaceful and well kept. Yes we'd visit again if that's what we were looking for.
Need a car
I would like to start by saying that the site staff were lovely and the site itself is nice. I think though that if you are travelling in a Motorhome and don’t have a car with you maybe think again. There is nothing around the site and it is surrounded by fast country roads. Aberaeron is the nearest town and has parking suitable for motorhomes. Aberystwyth not so much. We went to Shawsmead for a relaxing break and we got that as we didn’t go off the site, but for us this time, that was perfect. I don’t think it is somewhere I would return to though as it is very isolated.

Relaxing quiet site, but you’ll need transport
Shawsmead is a lovely quiet, secluded and sunny site (when the weather is good) however do bear in mind when reviews state not ideal for dog walks, this also includes human walks! We couldn’t find one footpath other than the roads, that are up and down really to anywhere. The highlight is the local National Trust and an easy cycle or walk into Aberaeron.
Fabulous, but not for dog owners.
This is a fabulous site run by lovely friendly people. The site is relatively small in the country near a quaint village in a beautiful area. There is a resident Red Kite that people often feed, (and it will steal your food if you're not watching !) Our ONLY complaint is that this site is advertised as "Good For Dogs", BUT there are no dog walking facilities on site or any available local to the site. The only way to walk your dog without getting in the car is to walk the local lanes, which are narrow and twisty and the traffic can be pretty fast, which is not ideal. This is site is definitely not "Good for dogs". Otherwise, absolutely lovely !

Lovely Jubilee weekend
Lovely site, good facilities (deepest washing up sinks I have ever seen). Patsy and Rob the wardens were extremely welcoming and helpful throughout. The one thing that lets down the site is that there is no dog walk on site, so you are walking your furbabies out the gate and around the block on a busy lane for their evening business.
When we were there, the Red Kites would circle the site and ,if the opportunity arose, steal food from barbecues.(we enjoyed watching them). If you want to go out you need your own transport or get a taxi. No shop on site. You can get food delivered. Aberaeron was lovely to visit. Overall we enjoyed a peaceful and relaxing stay

Peaceful & Friendly Countryside Site
We stayed on this site for 2 nights as we travelled through Wales. On arrival Patsy & Rob were lovely - very friendly & very welcoming . A beautiful Red Kite bird of prey was flying low & directly overhead as we chatted outside reception - a regular visitor we were told! After finding our pitch we joined Patsy, Rob & fellow campers for a bucks fizz & a slice of cake in celebration of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee! A very happy atmosphere all round. We also enjoyed chatting with a group of Dutch campers who were travelling with their club in a variety of vehicles towing 1970's caravans!
Also we visited historic monument Pentre Ifan while here - it's about 30 miles away from this site & down quite narrow roads but stunning & well worth a visit!
Peace and tranquillity
Had a fabulous week here at Shawsmead, we were greeted by the lovely wardens Rob and Patsy and nothing was too much trouble ,the site was immaculately kept and great size pitches and everyone had facilities close by ie. Water waste and recycling stations, the washing up station was fabulous I didn’t even mind doing the dishes (don’t tell the wife ) the shower block was spotless the highlight of our week were the Red kite flying over which I will post on their Facebook page , Our stay was during the Jubilee celebrations and Rob and patsy made us welcome with a celebratory drink /gathering with all the other holiday makers which was a lovely gesture and got to meet some lovely people I will definitely be returning here
What a lovely site to stay out
This was a lovely site to stay at. The wardens Patsy and Rob very friendly and very helpful no issue too big to help with he would go back and stay again in a heartbeat. A few local shops close by for the bigger shops you got Aberystwyth about 20 miles away what a surprise that places is, Close to the Vale of Rydal Railway beautiful beaches plenty to be exploring in the area.
