Just had 4 days stay at West Ayton which we found really quiet. The site wardens were very friendly and book in was very quick. even though the site was busy we had a choice of six pitches to choose from. We took pitch no6. The only problem we had was that we required a leveling block which up to now we have never needed but not to much of a lean. (Our problem not the sites and I know what Santa will be bringing). The other thing that we noted was the hook up point to pitch no8 was that they needed a cable extension to reach between the van and the socket. The site and the toilet block was very well maintained, with plenty of hot water. The flower beds around the site were brill, still flowering away. The site is an ideal place to stay to visit Scarborough / Whitby etc. The bus in the village takes you into Scarborough and drops you off opposite the railway station. Just opposite the bus stop is the Valley Forge Inn which is also a great place to eat. Good food and good portions. (Dogs are allowed in if you have a four legged friend). So many thanks to the wardens. We will be back.
Large very clean site, friendly welcome, they have a large fenced off field where you can let your dog off the lead, which our dogs loved, we will definitely be visiting it again.Â
One of the nicest sites we have stayed on. Really well kept. Best of both worlds, beautiful country side of North Yorkshire Moors and stunning coastline. Will definitely visit again.
We stayed at this site for 4 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the facilities were good. It is sited in a lovely area with both sea and countryside to visit. It was also very useful having a dog walking field.
This was our first visit to West Ayton but it will definitely not be the last. We were very impressed with the layout and the friendly welcome we received from the wardens who were very helpful throughout our visit. We had a very happy five days and our dog was delighted with the dog walk and the extension into the woods. The siyte is well situated for Scarborough, Whitby and Filey and this time we had the right weather to enjoy the beaches. See you next time.
This is an excellent site. Beautifully maintained by the wardens. Grass & hedges immaculate as are the little chain link fences to keep vehicles off the grass.Great information area with seating & planters. The one way system is far better now. Was a right pain before as was trying to go around looking for a pitch.Gets a bit congested on the road outside at 12 pm if more than three vans turn up at once. The toilet blocks are old & tired. But work & are clean. You are told how to park your outfit on arrival but it doesn't appear to apply to everyone. And how is it that you can't save a pitch for a friend next to you that is arriving in the next two hours but mobility signs suddenly appear twenty four hours before anyone turns up.Some of whom don't appear to be very disabled? What is the criteria for this?
Friendly wardens . Well kept clean site.
Good for dogs and children's with their own fence fields to play and exercise in.
Inadequate and dated shower blocks.
I'd only 6 showered on the whole site which works out at 1 shower for every 27-28 pitches so expect to queue for a shower or toilet at busy times. Ie. mornings
We stayed for 5 nights early in September. This is a large site but it is well designed and laid out to give pleasant pitches in separate areas. Facilities were good and maintained to a high standard. The wardens (all 6 of them) were always pleasant, cheery and helpful.
The site is conveniently located for visiting many places of interest both on the coast and inland.
The icing on the cake was that we enjoyed superb weather apart from our arrival day.
We would definitely visit the site again.
We've just spent five days at this site and it was up to typical CC standard. It's a large site with pitches on different levels. We were pitched near the bottom of the site and had to use blogs with the rear stays as they wouldn't touch the floor without them. Having said that it was a good pitch and not far from the kids play area. We had the grandkids with us and one point I thought they were the only ones on site probably due to the fact that most of them would have just gone back to school.
The site was pretty much full every day but it didn't appear to be 'busy' or noisy. As reported by others toilet blocks are dated but they were fine with powerful showers. A nice touch was around the information hut which had a pleasant wooden seating area with tables, fence and a gate.
There was a large size playing field at one end of the site with the games room and another outside play area with climbing/balance features for the older children. The door walk area is nearby.
Scarborough is only 5 miles away. Helmsley is a nice little town to visit. It's geared up for tourists as there's plenty of cafes, cake and butchers shops etc. Also near Helmsley at Duncombe Park is the National Centre For Birds Of Prey which we visited.
Basically, there's plenty to see using this CC as a base whether you fancy the seaside or a more peaceful rural setting.
