This is an excellent site. Beautifully maintained by the wardens. Grass & hedges immaculate as are the little chain link fences to keep vehicles off the grass.Great information area with seating & planters. The one way system is far better now. Was a right pain before as was trying to go around looking for a pitch.Gets a bit congested on the road outside at 12 pm if more than three vans turn up at once. The toilet blocks are old & tired. But work & are clean. You are told how to park your outfit on arrival but it doesn't appear to apply to everyone. And how is it that you can't save a pitch for a friend next to you that is arriving in the next two hours but mobility signs suddenly appear twenty four hours before anyone turns up.Some of whom don't appear to be very disabled? What is the criteria for this?
Recent visit
Friendly wardens . Well kept clean site.
Good for dogs and children's with their own fence fields to play and exercise in.
Inadequate and dated shower blocks.
I'd only 6 showered on the whole site which works out at 1 shower for every 27-28 pitches so expect to queue for a shower or toilet at busy times. Ie. mornings
Look no further
Spent 5 nights with family, excellent site excellently run and managed. would return again
Most enjoyable
We stayed for 5 nights early in September. This is a large site but it is well designed and laid out to give pleasant pitches in separate areas. Facilities were good and maintained to a high standard. The wardens (all 6 of them) were always pleasant, cheery and helpful.
The site is conveniently located for visiting many places of interest both on the coast and inland.
The icing on the cake was that we enjoyed superb weather apart from our arrival day.
We would definitely visit the site again.
Excellent Site
We've just spent five days at this site and it was up to typical CC standard. It's a large site with pitches on different levels. We were pitched near the bottom of the site and had to use blogs with the rear stays as they wouldn't touch the floor without them. Having said that it was a good pitch and not far from the kids play area. We had the grandkids with us and one point I thought they were the only ones on site probably due to the fact that most of them would have just gone back to school.
The site was pretty much full every day but it didn't appear to be 'busy' or noisy. As reported by others toilet blocks are dated but they were fine with powerful showers. A nice touch was around the information hut which had a pleasant wooden seating area with tables, fence and a gate.
There was a large size playing field at one end of the site with the games room and another outside play area with climbing/balance features for the older children. The door walk area is nearby.
Scarborough is only 5 miles away. Helmsley is a nice little town to visit. It's geared up for tourists as there's plenty of cafes, cake and butchers shops etc. Also near Helmsley at Duncombe Park is the National Centre For Birds Of Prey which we visited.
Basically, there's plenty to see using this CC as a base whether you fancy the seaside or a more peaceful rural setting.
Impressed & Will Return
Family of 4 (including 2 children aged 15 & 6 years). This was our first visit to this site & we really enjoyed our 7 night stay. The reception & information room area looked stunning with the baskets & tubs & the rest of the site beautifully maintained. Wardens work very hard. Our welcome was very warm & absolutely love the model in reception of "how to pitch your outfit"! Site well laid out & lacks the uniformity of other CC sites which was quite refreshing. Kids playground good; playing field excellent (although still had some people allowing their kids to play with balls around the caravans...why?!); obstacle course a hit with our 6 year old. Our experience of the wifi was very positive & we had no issues whilst using it, much to our 15 year old Daughter's delight! Wonderful area to explore whether you want to relax or be more active. Moors railway was a fantastic day out; Fairground museum was surprisingly good (did this on a wet day) & all of us enjoyed this. Betton farm is only 1.5 miles from the site on the way into Scarborough & incorporates The Honey Farm on site - insightful view into honey bees & great play park for smaller children. Brilliant seaside day at Bridlington. One negative for this holiday would have to be the shower blocks - would have to agree with previous reviews - they are tired & need upgrading although wardens work tirelessly to keep them clean & work with what they have but they need investment. Only other gripe is to fellow CC members...slow down on site! Some drove so quickly around site, it was dangerous for adults on foot or on bikes let alone kids! What's your rush? You're supposed to be on holiday!
Holiday break
It's the third year in a row our family have visited West Ayton for our holidays (14 nights) as the location is excellent for walking, visiting places and hobbies such as cycling and Trout Fishing(game). The wardens were very friendly, the caravan site was always clean and tidy and the parks were excellent for the children.
From a negative point of view I found this site very expensive for this time of year (£432 for 13 nights) fora family of four.
I think the toilet facilities look very tired indeed and the whole facilities need some new investment.
The internet reception was very poor indeed and unfortunately the phone signal was not very good either so you couldn't take advantage of your mobile data connection.

August Bank Holiday
Arrived on the Bank Holiday Monday and stayed until the Friday. The wardens were friendly and the site was large with a variety of pitches available. The site was well kept and great for the kids, the playground and the large play field together with pool room accommodates for all but the very little. The facilities were clean although showing their age and the toddler room was a blessing as it always is. Didn't seem that many showers for the size of the site (2x3 male and 2x3 female) but there was never a queue. Great location for scarborough and the surrounding area and we'll definately stay again.
Expensive
We booked in for one night I thought 27 pounds was a little expensive. Yes the site is lovely and clean and the warden was very polite. The only let down the showers a little disappointed with the they could do with a an update
ignorance of some folk !!
I stayed at this site last weekend for the Bank Holiday ,booked it last min as I had changed my original plans so was only non awing left found myself a nice spot in corner behind the first toilet block ,on the Sat was sat inside as it was raining when someone drove up ,turned round right on my pitch which is a wonder they didn't rip my Ariel lead to shreds as it was laid out on my pitch ,when they had turned round the lady passenger threw a Lit cigarette end on to my pitch ,which I reported straight away ,damn rude and very ignorant as she was visiting had I been the warden would have made her leave the site folks need to have more respect for others !!!
