Best Dog Walk

This would be a lovely site if it was not for the noisy main road running along the edge. If you could manage to get a pitch well away from the road it is like sitting in a park with plenty of grass pitches in the centre and at the far end, with hard standings mostly near the road. However the seasonal caravans were on most of the best grass pitches and for the duration of our stay these seasonals were mostly unoccupied. Apart from ruining the grass by being on site all season, some of these vans had very long grass growing round their caravans. Although you have Lidl's and many other stores immediately across the road from the site, you take your life in your hands trying to get a pint of milk. In fact after an unsuccessful attempt to cross the road we found it easier to take the car as unless you are very nimble and can dodge between the traffic it is very dangerous. There is an excellent dog walk right next to the site in the local nature reserve. Very friendly wardens.

wardens excellent, did their best for the children

Stayed on this site during half term, the wardens were wonderful, unfortunately the children's play area has been removed so the children did not get together and make friends. The wardens put a giant connect 4 game were the play area was and lent out games which was very thoughtful. I do hope the play area will be rebuilt as more and more young families and grandparents like us take children away during school holidays to club sites, but alas this site is more for adults and dog owners now. The road is a bit loud but did not put us off that much, although you do take you life in your hands when you try to cross it. On site there were some little dogs barking continuously during the day when we were there and campers around us were a bit unhappy about it my granddaughter commented on the fact that old people tutted a lot.

Well-kept and well laid out with a bright open aspect

I hear people say that club sites are regimented, designed on rows of pitches and lacking creativity. I tend to think that this is a criticism that could be levelled at 90% of caravan sites – not just CC ones. I also wonder how much this matters to enjoyment of a site; not one jot would be my guess. For me it is more about a sense of space and having open aspects. I hate being hemmed in by trees with poor light and no outlook other than bark and leaf and I hate any sense of sitting cheek by jowl with one’s neighbour. The Bognor Regis site is definitely not regimented and it enjoys open spaces and I had no sense of being hemmed in. All in all, I quite liked the site. The hard standings are arranged in clusters along a single circular road winding around the site with large open green spaces off this carrying the many grass pitches – with one set of grass pitches in a little separate glade. Road noise never bothers me but, as it turned out, choosing a nice hard-standing pitch, close to a service point, I found myself almost as far away from the road as it was possible to be. Thus, I could make no judgement on this issue on behalf of those for whom such things are anathema. There’s enough warning here for people so I can’t see much justification in complaining. I would not describe the site as small, as another reviewer does below. There are plenty much smaller than this – and nor does small mean being close to neighbours. Indeed, for the number of pitches (100) this is quite a big site – and all the better for it. Odd too that another reviewer was concerned about obsessive mowing whereas I remember thinking (before I had read the comment) that the grass was rather on the long side and could do with a cut. I never pitch on grass (except if I find myself with no alternative – something I plan as far as possible to avoid) so this was not an issue for me. My only complaints are two-fold and both quite minor. My pitch was a tad on the short side. I could not remove my bike from the back of my van without having my front end temporarily on the road. There was a hedge behind the pitch but it had been badly sited as there was no impediment for it to have been a few feet further back (although now much too well established to easily change). My other minor moan is one that I often think but rarely mention – but this time I will. The site would benefit from at least one additional service point. Another positive of this site is the nearness to supermarkets - 10 minute brisk walk to Sainsbury (or Lidl much closer if you like the German discounters); other handy shops nearby and fast food outlets if you don’t want to cook – or smoke out your neighbours with a BBQ. There are infrequent buses into town, but I cycled (good cycle lanes on the main road into town) or walked to the excellent 700 Coastliner service for farther afield (25-minute walk). A pleasant well-kept, well laid green, clean site with an open aspect. I liked it here (but I like Worthing more).

In addition ...

For dog owners, Hotham Park in Bognor is great: plenty of squirrels and a very good café. At West Wittering, about 20 minutes drive, there's a fabulous sandy beach. Two downland walks are within easy reach, the first starts from Slindon and the second from Stoughton. Both are about six miles of hilly walking, both include good dog-friendly pubs, and both are in the AA walk book.

Good site for a weekend

A good site for a weekend away. Great staff and facilities. They make you aware of the noises from the dual carriageway, but you can choose your pitch. We stayed on a pitch by the Road, but by the time we had some vino and good food forgot all about it. Very clean facilities, will be back..

All we want ...

Rowan Park has just about everything we ask of a caravan site. It's small, but you're not on top of one another; it's well laid out; there's no narrow approach road to negotiate; there's a great dog-walk nature park next door; and Bognor itself isn't bad. People moan about the traffic noise, and admittedly there's a dual carriageway on the other side of the hedge. But we've stayed here four times now, possible five, I lose count (we're coming back next month, too) and the traffic has never kept us awake.

Complaints? None, if you discount the obsessive mowing of the grass. We think the wardens have got a new superduper utility vehicle and they take every opportunity to play with it. If you're on a grass pitch you'll be forever sweeping grass cuttings from your caravan floor. But it's a small price to pay for such a well-kept site.

Pleasant site

Went for a long weekend, we had a pitch away from the road and were not been bothered by traffic noise, and we are used to living somewhere quiet. The staff were friendly and helpful. The facility block was kept beautifully clean. Lovely area to walk the dogs adjacent to the site. Would definitely go back again for a short break if I could guarantee a pitch in a similar position.

No peace

Nice clean site, welcoming staff and lovely clean showers and toilet blocks. Sadly the main road is rather loud all the time. Children not able to play ball games anywhere. Good site for adults.
