Great site

It's our second visit to this great place, interesting undulating site with many interesting places to park your caravan, spotless toilet blocks and very up to date, Fareham is a great place to shop with large indoor and outdoor shops and also right near the waterfront, pubs & places to eat. My only criticism is the passing places on hill as you drive out uphill they are on the wrong side and when towing a caravan the last thing you want to do is stop on a hill to let the downward traffic past, some of the passing points are deep mud and should be concreted over otherwise someone will get stuck.

Location a priority

Chose this site as it is close to family so perfect for us.  This is the first Caravan Club site we have been to since joining and have to say that it is the cleanest too.  Showers and loos were spotlessly clean.  The boiler broke down one morning which meant cold showers but it was dealt with promptly.  I have to agree with Sammytheshammy when he raised the issue of children on bikes, scooters and skateboards.  I know that children need to be able to play but please ... not on the main road around the site.  We had several children directly outside our caravan shouting at each other whilst we were attempting to have a quiet meal. We were rather confused when there seemed to be quite a few overnighters using the main site when there is very clearly a separate field for overnighters.  During a 4 night stay we had 3 different visitors pitch up behind us. On the whole this is a good site however, a few tweaks here and there could make it brilliant.  We will stay here again purely for its convenient location for us.

change

Been to this site loads of times this time very disappointed to find the dog walk halved, was not so nice this time as kids going past the caravan sometimes on the pitch on their bikes and on the road all day on their scooters and skateboards I suggest what they should do is make a part were kids can not ride their bikes scooters and skateboards

First Time at Rookesbury (Camping)

Visited Rookesbury for the first time for an overnight on Saturday 22nd Aug 15. Whilst we are caravaners and Club members we were looking for a night away in our tent. We booked on line (note to the Club - why doesn't tent booking for members get handled on the same pages as for vans) and had the usual email confirmation.  The wardens we met at check in were very friendly and welcoming and we were directed to the tent field after being advised we could drop off/setup on the field but had to park in the tent field car park (which is fine as it keeps the field clear and is less damaging). We were really surprised by the size of tent field (great) and its tucked away behind the hedge such that you can't even see the main site.  There were a few smaller tents around the edge when we arrived (we went for one of the big tent pitches in the centre of the field) but another 6 tents did come later that evening.  The field is flat and well kept and with us having our dog with us was ideal as it was so close to the adjoining dog field.  Before it was split (dog/tents) the dog field must have been one of the largest we have ever come across but even now its still very large and there was plenty of room for our dog to tear around.  As always the wash blocks were clean and tidy. If I had to make a few suggestions on how to improve the tent field then a water tap on the field would be good, as would putting in some electric points (noting the price of a night in a tent is not a lot less than being in the van on an electric pitch). I have camped at the Winchester site (which is nice and has electrics, but the tent area is very small and its not so secluded) so will definitely be coming back to Rookesbury (with both tent and van).

Changes!

We are lucky to have Rookesbury so close to our home and like so many locals, we use it regularly for weekends to longer breaks. However the dynamics of the site is changing for the worse. Sadly Head Warden John and his wife are being moved on by the Club to another site. Their friendly but professional approach is an asset and they will be missed by many. Sadly, we come across some quite miserable wardens on our travels and when appointing, perhaps the Club should realise a welcoming personality is important! Also, the site has been known for its fabulous dog field which has now been halved to accommodate tents (for non-members). During our 12 night stay there was never more than 4 tents pitched but I guess the Club would rather make a few extra pennies than keep members happy! Let's hope the caravan pitches remain 'members only'.  Message to those in head office who aren't caravanners - if it's not broken, don't fix it! Rookesbury is a beautiful site, we like many are sad to see the changes.

I would give it 5 for peace & quiet but the kids on their scooters at 7.30am spoilt the mornings

Fantastic site

Took our Grandson for a weeks holiday to Rookesbury Park knowing that he would enjoy the marvelous play area - swings, table tennis, football pitch AND he certainly did. Site immaculate even in August - well done wardens. Great site to stay at for exploring Gosport, Portsmouth and I.O.W. We will be back.

One of my wives favourites

Our first trip to this site. The usual very high standards of the Caravan Club are very much upheld at this site. All very clean and well maintained and a pleasure to use. Very friendly and helpful staff, nothing too much trouble. Nice and quiet at night with no roads near to the site. Some pitches do appear to be a little on top of each other but plenty of choice as you do your reconnoissance trip around the site upon arrival. We will definitely be returning.

Quiet peaceful break

I have stayed at this site many times and I have never had a bad experience. I have recently returned from a long weekend break (4 nights) which coincided with the Wickham Festival. The site was full and yet it was so peaceful and relaxing. The facilities are excellent and spotless. Regular rounds are made to change dustbins and clean facilities. The staff were very polite, helpful and, what I think makes a difference, had a smile on their faces. There is no 'clubhouse' or swimming pool or discos - great. There is however a smashing play area for children and this is sited at one end of the camp so you know exactly where to pitch if this is a consideration. The dog walking area is first rate. I love this place.

Peace & Quiet

Stayed here in May 2015. What a gem of a place, quiet, clean and spacious. All facilities were kept spotless and the staff were excellent. There was plenty of room between pitches and large grass areas surrounding each section. Will be returning.
