Favorite site

This is a truly lovely site. Never feels crowded even when full. We have stayed here many times. I have to agree with several other members reviews about the tent field and dog walk being halved. It is a shame as this is one of the reasons we come to Rookesbury. If the club needs extra pennies why not extend the pitches and be done with it? However we still will come as it is an excellent site with friendly staff and clean facilities. Well done to all the wardens.  Mike and Sue

dog walk for tents !!!!

One of our favorite sites and have stayed many times, but, we joined the Caravan club and being dog owners particularly loved the dog walk. We think an unnecessary amount of room was taken for the new tenting area, half of the room taken would have been more than sufficient IF YOU MUST HAVE TENTS AT ALL, a very unpopular move by the CARAVAN Club

what a gem of a site

We stayed at this site for 6 nights and it is the best site we have stayed at so far The staff were brilliant , friendly and very helpful . Lots to do on site , bouls , golf and lots for the children . The walk to wickham was great but make sure you turn right at the bridge or the walk is much longer as we realised after 10 minutes going the wrong way .very good site for portsmouth , isle of wight, and new forest . Myself and pauline would like to wish the staff good luck with their new adventures .

Friendly and conveniently situated for ferry

Very conveniently situated for an overnight stop prior to an early morning ferry. Only criticism was that the 'ferry pitches' were on wet grass which made leaving in the morning a little difficult. Tarmac would have been much better. Otherwise staff were very friendly and helpful and the visiting takeaway van was much appreciated.  Would go there again.

Well kept site

The site is beautifully kept and the staff were friendly. The only downside for us was that the heating in the child's bathroom was not working, preventing us from using it.

Ferry stop

Excellent for the Portsmouth ferry. Only 1 night but very courteous and welcoming warden, especially as we arrived 'after hours' and in near darkness. Morning staff equally friendly.

Weekend break

Another lovely weekend at Rookesbury and great weather too, as usual all facilities are kept clean and tidy. The site looks great with just some grass pitches now out of use due to recent wet weather. We were on grass which was ok but a little muddy from awning use. The recent change of use of the previously fantastic dog walk field to use for tents is without doubt a bad move. The caravan club should be kept as just that for caravaners. Increasing income is most probably the reason but sadly this will lead to over use of the toilet facilities with all the mud and grass brought in we have all probably seen when at sites where tenting is the 'norm'. I am sure we will visit again but if the caravan club continues with changing areas to tent use then membership will decrease.

Family time

This was not our first stay at Rookesbury and we were still delighted with the site and all it had to offer. Close to Fareham and Wickham for shopping and of course the delights and interests that Portsmouth and Southampton offer. It was also chosen as we were celebrating a family members 95th birthday. The wardens were efficient, friendly and extremely helpful and after the wet late summer, were battling with worn out grass pitches, some of which had been withdrawn for re-seeding. It's those pesky groundsheets that are seemingly seldom if at all, lifted to give the grass an airing. In my humble opinion they should be banned from CC grass pitches and anyone using them should be "yellow carded". The two shower blocks were immaculate as usual on CC sites with plenty of amenities for all. We were close to the 'ferry pitches' but were not disturbed by early departures or late arrivals. The only issue I could comment on negatively are those members who choose to ignore the mid-day departure deadline and leave late making it very awkward for incoming outfits as passing places are somewhat lacking close to the site entrance from the road. There are ample warnings of this around the site so there is no excuse for these late leavers to rely on. Going off the road onto verges can be a major problem if there has been an amount of rain that softens them up. TV reception via the plug-in facility is fine and some areas can get an acceptable signal via a fitted arial. A good children's area provided plenty of exercise for our visiting great grand-children and it's away from the main site. Overall a very good site for peace and quiet and the seaports. Note; No bus services close to the site and Wickham is about a 2 mile walk on footpaths so transport probably necessary other than for the fit and young at heart.

First visit to a club site

Lovely, quiet site with plenty of space between pitches. We loved the fact that the dog area was secure and we could let our dog have a run, because of the rain the entrance to the dog site was rather muddy and slippery, we did hear two staff members discussing putting something down to make it safer, but this didn't happen while were there. The forest right next door was an added bonus. Showers etc: were clean and warm. The washing machine at £4 for a wash, was rather expensive and the most we have had to pay at any other site we have stayed at.  We would stay again but would do the washing elsewhere.  Staff friendly.

Tents and dog field

We have been coming to this site for years and not just for the odd weekend but weeks at a time and just love this site. One of our favourites. The location , the quiet and the large dog field..That is to say before they cut half of the dog field and put in tents. I am not the only one that feels this way. It is THE CARAVAN CLUB. The camping and caravan club is for both. Right I ask a question if you are going to do both as the camping and Caravan club are you going to reduce the fees. As I can go cheaper with the camping and caravan club but I have wanted to be in the Caravan Club. Im sorry but you have made quite a few members disalusioned here. Shame its not the same now.
