The Dog Walk

A lovely site in beautiful surroundings, but with a very plain field masquerading as a dog walk. There needs to be some bushes and perhaps a small copse as well as a bit of longer grass in which they could roll. They need fun just like us. Other than that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay with you.

Great Site

This was our first visit. We were very impressed with the site and the very friendly helpful wardens. Our only slight niggle was the fact that the Wifi was at times unusable. I guess this must be due to selfish people downloading films and TV.

One of our favourite sites

Another lovely stay on this site. Very full as beginning of School holidays but still the toilets and showers were very clean and I did not have to wait for a shower either morning.  Site wardens are helpful and friendly.  This is only just over an hour away for us so we tend to come down for weekends fri-sun.  Love to walk round Gunwarf Quays and have lunch or dinner there. Very good butcher in Wickham for all bbq needs.  Dog walk still a good size even though its been cut in half with the other half accommodating tents.  Would always recommend this site.

Excellent!!

1 night stopover on returning from France into Portsmouth 17/7/2015. We had booked normal pitch as arriving before 8pm, however anyone wishing for the Ferry pitches will be pleasantly surprised as they are good grass pitches, well placed. This was our 1st visit and will definitely use again. Also lovely site for longer stays to explore Portsmouth etc. - really friendly and helpful wardens - pitches are of good size and not at all crammed in having plenty of "open" areas around the pitches. Highly recommended!

Forest Hideaway

We turned up here on spec as our intended site had a problem with an overflowing CDP - they couldn't have been more helpful or understanding, booking us in with no quibbles. Lovely site with the usual, excellent CC facilities. Great for visits to Portchester, Southsea or Portsmouth - try to take the 'Ports' road down to Portsmouth for terrific panoramas over the bays. The site itself is in the middle of a forest and a bit isolated if you don't want to drive, but there are nice walks and cycle rides to be had locally.

Exquisite Rookesbury

First time we have been to this site. Found it quiet friendly and beautiful. The wardens give you directions to the local village and pub, both of which take you through the adjacent woods. As usual the toilets were spotless and wardens great. We had a power cut while there, which lasted quite a few hours. Not experienced this before in 14 years caravaning. The dog field has recently been halved in size to accommodate tents. Not sure what to make of that, but what is left is still huge. The site is quite large with some lovely grass pitches, and loads of hard standings. We carry a small crowbar to remove awning pegs from some hard standing pitches...we needed it here.

Site revisit

We returned to this site for 3 days recently, the last visit was at least 20 years ago.  The site has certainly changed for the better.  Our last visit was only 1 night, the site was very open and lacked character, it has now matured and we will be visiting again. Well done to all.

Nice site

Really pleased with this site we have stayed here for 2 nights before heading to Isle of Wight. Wardens are fab and site shop well stocked. Chip van bit disappointing. We have had lovely weather and there is a good dog walk on site. The only downside were some ignorant caravanners who took short cuts across the pitch and whilst we were having dinner tonight pitch 28 came right behind us and started talking over the hedge loudly to family/friends the other side as well as standing on our pitch in front of our car having a chat with friend/family rather rude if you ask me. But you can't fault the site I just hope the ignorant caravanners read this review and maybe observe the etiquette on their other stays.

Ferry stopover

This is the second time that we have visited this site, and again we were not disappointed. The wardens were very welcoming and extremely helpful in accommodating us during our short stay. We stopped one night, and then had a delayed departure for a ferry booking. This really has to be one of the best warden teams in the CC. We visited Porchester Castle, an English Heritage site during our stay and would have no hesitation in recommending a visit. The climb up the keep is really worth doing. Cheap petrol at the local Sainsburys, and a very helpful Land Rover garage made this a great stop over. We dined at the Horse and Jockey at Denmead. This eating place was recommended by the wardens and it was a great choice. Very large portions, great welcome, good service and very tasty food. It is literally a few miles away from the site. Just ask the wardens for directions. We will be back for a longer visit to this site as the area has much to offer.

Groundsheet

In reply to last members comments. I do agree that the said mentioned caravan member, to which we have seen the caravan and awning sited since the first Bank Holiday, sited on said grass pitch, in question.  We have been a regular member attending this site, for over 5 years. You should not blame this member to a certain degree. It is the Wardens responsibility to have mentioned and insisted to the member to lift the  Groundsheet and for not a member on site to make any sly comments? But to seek out the Warden and again inform them. This member and the Wardens knew they were staying for a long period, the wardens should of advised them and placed them on an Hard Stand.
