This is a great site. So well laid out, Lots of trees to divide areas but plenty of open space. The facilities are immaculate. The much improved motorhome service point is great. Big open grill for waste water emptying for those with rear tanks. Two (one for each side) drains with easy lift covers for those with front or middling waste tanks. Well done CC, great improvements. Great water pressure too, makes filling up the motorhome so much easier and shortens the queues for the motorhome service area.
Mobile phone coverage is iffy at this site. You may need to walk around a bit. Wifi is OK.
Helpful staff. Excellent dog walking area, all safely fenced in (pity some people still don't pick up!) and acres of adjacent woodlands for longer dog walks (such as to the pub or to Wickham).
A Great Site
We used the site for an overnight stop as we made our way to France through Portsmouth. We found the site to be perfect. Splendidly located in a wooded estate, the site itself is well laid out with decently spaced pitches. The staff went that extra distance that makes a difference in positioning us so we could get away early without causing undue noise. So v thoughtful. The site is fairly isolated, away from eateries and shops.
Pleasant Fortnight
We have visited the site twice previously, once as a ferry stop and secondly as a two week holiday when our children weren't adults!
We chose it for the attractions we could visit easily. Whilst it's close to the M27 it's very peaceful.
As ever the wifi is variable so stock up on mobile phone data.
The dog walking area is one of the best we have seen.
Children's play area looks good but we are too old!!
Not the place for a seaside holiday but if you want to use your National Trust membership, visit museums and historic places this is the site for you.
Moterhomers from Wiltshire
First time to this site but enjoyed it so much hope to go back. Lovely manicured grass every were very tidy and shower block always clean. A bonus with the Bere forest right next door to site. Staff very pleasant ,what more could you ask for. We had some lovely days out. Lee on Solent was a favorite with a nice walk to Hill head.
BEAUTIFUL sITE
I have been to this site many times since about 1992 and have always found it to be a calm and beautiful place, although it did seem crowded on this occasion. Nevertheless it was a good stay and I spent my time at the Naval dockyards museums and at Fort Nelson. Also ideal for me and my dog, with the Forest of Bere accessible directly from the site perimeter fence and also the large dog field. The staff as always were very pleasant and courteous. Facilities could not be bettered.
Caulkhead
FANTASTIC SITE, KEPT LOVELY AND CLEAN, ITS JUST A PITY THAT THESE SITES BECOME RACE TRACKS FOR KIDS TO RACE AROUND ALL OVER THE PLACE, THERE ARE RULES ABOUT USING BIKES BUT THIS SEEMS TO BE IGNORED.
AND YOU CAN ALWAYS TELL WHEN NON-MEMBERS ARE ON SITE...
Another brilliant visit
This is our local site to which we escape as often as we can. It is the most gorgeous & peaceful location, you feel as though you are miles from anywhere but in fact are only a couple of miles from the quaint market town of Wickham. The fantastic team of wardens keep the site very clean, tidy & welcoming. The facilities are excellent with extra rails in some showers & toilet cubicles to help those less mobile but those needing a wet room are catered for in a separate room. We timed our last visit to coincide with their hog roast fund raising evening which was most enjoyable & raised a lot of money for the very worthwhile Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. This event meant a great deal of extra work for the already hard working wardens but they managed it without the ever present smiles leaving their faces. Our Westie always knows when we have arrived on site & gets very excited, he loves the huge dog field that is well fenced & totally secure so he can have a good run off the lead. During the recent heat wave the adjacent forest was a real treat that was cool to walk in.
Top Site for visiting Portsmouth
We have just left Rookesbury last week and have to say what a lovely tidy site, well kept with really clean toilet blocks, ( it is a pity that some members do not care about the state they leave the facility in ) but the wardens work hard to keep site in tip-top condition, especially Richard who is always out working, Deborah his wife in the reception always helpfull and very pleasant are a credit to the club, looking forward to our next visit
Local Site
We are very local to Rookesbury Park and visit on a regular basis, have always enjoyed the site and cannot fault anything about it. Staff are exceptional and it makes the visits all the more enjoyable.
Fabulous all round!
My Fiancé and I (along with 'Cynthia') have been coming to this site for some years now, and this last stay has been the best yet! We were initially booked in for 5 nights during a weeks holiday but ended up staying for two weeks! We are fortunate to be able to 'commute' to work from Rookesbury Park, which we did during our second week. The site was well maintained, the amenity blocks are always spotless and we seemed to have a good sociable crowd around us. The wardens were, without exception, helpful, happy and diligent and special thanks should go to Chris and Lisa for being so lovely! Together with another couple this was their first year as wardens but were consummate professionals and a genuine credit to the Club.
We would have no hesitation in recommending this site to couples (either working or not) and families alike as all are well catered for. There is a visiting fish & chip van on a Friday which is excellent and mid-week a stone-fired pizza van visit; also excellent.
Fantastic - keep it up!
