Dog pit stops

Love this site, we try & come about 3 times a year. The wardens especially the first year wardens were very friendly & welcoming on our arrival which makes a lot of difference when you have been driving for a couple of hours. Love the area, the forest & Wickham village is beautiful. The addition of the dog pit stops was a very good idea especially when taking our dogs out last thing at night. I think this idea should be rolled to other sites. Well done to the head wardens for their initiative Lovely site for everyone, very clean & well kept.

Hidden gem in forest of Bere

Once on the site you are instantly at ease. Hidden away but close to the town for supplies. Large secure field for the dogs to run loose and even a few agility jumps to play with. We will be back

Great stop over for the ferry

Stayed here once again the night before taking the ferry to France. An efficient, pleasant & professional welcome. There were lots of pitches to choose from (surprised as this was a peak week). The facilities were excellent & very clean. This is a spacious, pleasant site and we would come for longer. Only a tiny criticism - the grass needed cutting.

Good Site, Well Kept

Good Site that is very well kept. The staff have recently adapted the shower hoses (with securing brackets) in the larger cubicles in the lower block that prevent the hoses from being detached as they are designed to be!!

Peaceful site close to Forest of Bere

This was our second stay and we were not disappointed. The site is has a beautiful location, adjacent to the Forest of Bere, making your stay very peaceful. Our pitch was on the lower part of the site not far from the children's play area and we had no issues of noise. This site has an excellent dog walking field and someone has built some agility fences from old drain pipes, not that our dogs used them. The wardens were very welcoming and friendly. As expected from a CAMC site the toilets and showers are well maintained. I would recommend this site.

VERY GOOD SITE

We visited in our caravan for a Monday to Friday break in mid-May. We estimate the site was about 50% occupied. Directions are clear and accurate though the site is not signposted from the B2177 and we witnessed visitors miss the turning on 2 occasions. Only when you leave public roads does the access become a single-track winding road down into the former quarry, but there are plenty of passing places. This is a large site broadly divided into ‘lower’ and ‘upper’ areas, defined by the 2 facilities blocks, but mature trees and shrubs create many enclaves which disguise the true size of the site. The dog walking and children’s play area are probably most adjacent to the lower area (we no longer have need of either). The thing that struck us most was the peace and quiet. There is no ‘external’ noise and we often commented that we could hear only bird song. We noted, in particular, the absence of incessant mower noise – yes, we really DO appreciate how well-maintained all the Club sites are and that this requires a lot of (sometimes noisy) effort. We thought the grass was slightly longer than on some sites but this was not a problem – the daisies were lovely - and if this is a local policy, on the evidence of this visit, we support it. The facilities blocks provide the usual Club fare to the usual high standard though we did note the lower block was full on a couple of occasions at the peak times. The small town of Wickham is a short drive (or longish walk) away and has a Coop, butchers, bakers, etc, and some small interesting shops. The site reception ‘sells’ (for charity) maps and directions for lovely walks directly from the site. We considered this to be a very good site, well maintained by a team of friendly and helpful wardens, and we hope to visit on many more occasions.

Excellent as always

I have been going to this site since just after it first opened when the trees in the pictures were no more than saplings planted in an old sandpit. It never fails to amaze me how good that this site is. The staff are always friendly and helpful, the TV link up system excellent but the WI FI is not so brilliant. There are so many places of interest to visit in the vicinity that it seems I find something new every time I visit, This time it was Porchester Castle a place steeped in history and I always ensure that I go to the Royal Navy Museums at Portsmouth and Gosport, look on line for a yearly ticket because it is good value and one visit is not enough. All round an excellent site especially if you have a dog that likes a good walk in a forest, be careful that you do not get lost though as I have on several occasions.

A hidden gem in the Forest of Bere

This is without doubt one of the best maintained sites we have been to. Extremely dog friendly (fantastic doggy exercise field) and are the local pubs. Agree with a previous poster regarding dog mess. We picked up at least 3 lots of dog poo left by dogs other than our own. This is not a job for the wardens. My only criticism would be internet speed. Whilst the map in reception boasts good coverage throughout the site, it should be noted that this is classed as a "bronze" site for Wifi, meaning the broadband speed is between 1mb/s and 8mb/s which is shared between the 142 pitches. The best I could get was 0.8mb/s If this was included with the pitch fee (as per caravan and camping club) I guess it would be OK, but at £3 per night it represents poor value for money. I'm sure the vast majority of visitors enjoy being "offline" for a few days so this would not be a concern for most ! Note for those who considering walking into Wickham... After exiting the woods and crossing the main road, you'll see a stile on your left leading to a footpath along the river. This path eventually exits at the station car park in Wickham. We preferred this route to following the Meon trail. In summary, a beautiful site which we will definitely be returning to soon !
