A brilliant site with wonderful wardens

Despite living in Hampshire we only found this site by accident whilst out in the car but once we had a look round & spoke to the wardens we immediately came home to join the club. It is so peaceful & surrounded by woodland that you could be miles from anywhere instead of this close to Southampton & Portsmouth. The facilities are kept spotlessly clean & are very well maintained. The wardens are very friendly & helpful but despite being permenantly very busy they always have time for you. Our dog thoroughly enjoys the large, secure dog field where he can run freely. We have now enjoyed 4 short visits this season & fully intend to return at the earliest opportunity.

A Good 'all rounder' site

This was the 3rd or 4th time we have stayed at Rookesbury Park, on this occasion we were meeting up with friends in their outfit for the bank holiday weekend. We both arrived at a similar time on Friday where even though there was a queue to book in the wardens dealt with everyone very efficiency, explaining about not letting the dogs off their leads in certain areas because of pheasant shooting. The dog walk area is great, enough space for everyone without causing any problems. The tent area looked very well maintained with short grass & nearby parking for those under canvas. The weather was glorious even though on one night we had a fantastic lightning show where the sky was lit up! The rain soon moved on & we were left with another fantastic day of sitting watching the world go by. We purchased one of the walks available from the office & took a leisurely stroll through the forest to the Roebuck inn for a well deserved G&T! The wardens were all extremely approachable, the office was fully stocked with the usual bits & pieces but with the added luxury of freshly cooked baguettes & croissants (ordered the night before). The toilet blocks etc. were up to the excellent standard that we have come to expect from the caravan club. It was half term so at a site like this you do expect families, there is a big play area for children so they didn't disturb us too much. Even though it is a big site & I expect it was nearly full or full, you didn't get the feeing of being over crowded. Plenty of places of interest to visit in the area so never a dull moment! Well done wardens the site was a credit to you all & your hard work.

1st time here.

This was our first visit to this site, and what a joy. We were badly in need of a break and some peace and quiet, which was exactly what we got. The site is beautiful, spacious and well laid out but never felt overcrowded. We were able to get into Portsmouth quite easily, and there is so much to see and do there, with enough variety to cater for all tastes. Being recent converts to a motorhome after owning a caravan for many years, parking can be an issue, so help from the wardens is always much appreciated. However, it would appear that the wardens at this site were all new to the area, so info was a little sketchy, with no info on whether there were height barriers at the Park'n Ride. A phone call to Portsmouth Borough Council informed us that there are height barriers at all their car parks, so on road parking is the only option. We had no trouble finding space and would recommend St. Georges Square, but in high season, I could see this being a problem. We only stayed a few days before moving on the Isle of Wight, but would definitely return to this beautiful site for a longer stay.

Great Site in a Fantastic Location Ideal for all

Rookesbury is located in Very quiet area of forest well laid out & beautifully maintained by the hard working sites team. Portsmouth Historic dockyard HMS Victory, Mary Rose & HMS Warrior all worth a visit & a ticket is valid for a year. Gun Wharf Quays for outlet shopping, Spinnaker tower, Day trip to the Isle of Wight. Fort Nelson free admission also. Those who like a steam train the Watercress line is also a good visit. Pitches on site are large & Toilet blocks are very clean Large dog field to let them run & enjoy + forest walks next door all in all great site

Fantastic site - superb facllities

We chose Rookesbury for our first outing of the season because it's pretty local to our caravan storage. We're new to the Caravan & Motorhome Club and were very pleased with the friendly and helpful greeting when we arrived. The site is spacious, clean and nicely laid out with an excellent play area. It's also very dog friendly which is very welcome. Pride of place, aside from the great staff, goes to the facilities with both blocks being superb. Clean and sensibly laid out with excellent showers. A great location for the south coast including the Palmerston Forts (Fort Nelson is a Royal Armouries site and is free), Portchester Castle and beaches. This is now our site of choice for quick weekend getaways.

A very welcome break after a long journey!

We had travelled from the Costa Blanca in Spain, and arrived at Rookesbury Park late on a Friday afternoon after disembarking the Bilbao to Portsmouth ferry. So we were more than ready for a relaxing few days up until the site closed for the winter, and we were not disappointed. We have stayed before on several occasions, at different times of the year, and being blessed with perfect Autumn weather this stay was fantastic. The autumn colours were beautiful in the sunshine, and we enjoyed some lovely walks, and generally just relaxed on site. This is probably our dogs favourite place in the world, he just loves it, for the wonderful dog exercise field mainly where he can really stretch his legs and run. Being a Saluki, this is what he does best!!!!!!! The wardens were friendly, and the facilities were spotless, the site was immaculately kept too. Not much more to add really, we have stayed at many other sites, this one is our favourite in England and we look forward to returning.

Beautiful site and very well maintained

We're a family of five and have just spent a lovely week here for October half term. As soon as you arrive, you feel completely 'away from it all'. It's so peaceful with no roads or railways nearby to disturb the peace. The only sounds you hear at night are those made by owls. As only the hard standings were in use (very sensible in October), the site was particularly spacious. It's got a nice parkland feel to it and is well laid out. The play area and play field are of a good standard and the shower blocks were toasty warm and extremely clean. The site is so well located for exploring the area. Portsmouth was a real highlight for us - we would really recommend the historic dockyard, and we also enjoyed visiting Chichester, Southampton and Winchester. Others we spoke to on site had been as far as Brighton and the New Forest. If you'd rather not use the car, there is a good 'woodland walk' to Wickham (2 miles each way). It's a pretty village with a couple of nice looking pubs. The wardens were helpful, friendly and obviously hard working. We will return one day.

Another great stay at Rookesbury

This was our 3rd trip to Rookesbury. It is only 20 minutes away from us but it gets us away from the home routine. The playground and footie field are a major draw for us as the kids spend hours there every day hanging out with all their new found friends (and some old ones from previous visits). The walk up through the woods to Hundred Acres is another favourite activity. And Wickham has everything you need to keep you topped up. I particularly want to give a mention to 'The Witch and The Ogre' (the wardens were making the most of the Halloween theme) who were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The kids loved chatting to them and they made it super fun whenever we dropped in on reception. Thank you!

Local Site

Firstly I must say this is our local site and for the last 5 seasons has given great support by fundraising for Hants. and IOW Air Ambulance . That aside we visit at least once each season and find the site great for our week-ending stays. Site is well laid out and in my opinion has a sensible balance between hard and grass pitches as contrary to some of your reviewers not everyone wants hardstandings in height of season. Facilities are always spotless and site kept clean and tidy. However whoever arranged for the new drain installed at the m/h service point took no account of where it needs to be as any vehicle using it blocks the exit road from site for the duration. An expensive road alteration in now needed to correct the situation. Some critisims must be laid at fellow users. a) Booking confirmation CLEARLY STATED 1300 HRS FOR 1ST ARRIVAL yet on Sat.7th and Sun 8th Sept. we saw several vans arriving just after 1200. This behaviour and ignorance of the rules deprives those obeying them of a choice of some pitches and puts the staff in an impossible position. b) I would estimate more than 50% of users have faulty speedo's in their vehicles as many drive around site way over the 5mph rule.
