One to explore next time

We only stayed for one night on our way home from Scotland, but we were impressed. All pitches seemed acceptable, well maintained and roomy. We stayed fairly close to the shower block which is an impressive building itself. Everyone around us was friendly and we were sad to leave the following day. The site itself is very rural in a great location for exploring so we'll definitely come back here for a longer stay when we next head to Northumberland.

Peaceful site

After visiting Seaton Delaval House and Cragside, we arrived at the River Breamish site, which was our second stop of our tour of the North East of England, and we were greeted by the warmest of welcomes. Despite my best attempts I could not find an adder in the adjacent nature reserve, but my disappointment was put to one side when the mobile fish n chip van arrived. The warden told me these were in the top 5 fish n chips he had ever had, and I cannot dispute this, they were spot on. I would categorise the site, which was larger than anticipated as ideal for caravanners who can use their cars to visit local attractions, for people who want to chill or take short walks to the river/nature reserve, or for people like us that are touring, and use as a stopover. I struggled with the 'overall rating' and 'good for families'. There were many families on site during our visit, and they appeared to be having a fabulous time. We travelled without our family, and we are not sure if they would have enjoyed it the same.

Peaceful Remote Stop Over Site

Spent 2 nights in July as part of a Northumbria tour. Site is easy to locate and peaceful. Pitches are well spaced and all seemed to be in good condition and level - we struggled to identify any 'bad' pitch. The facilities block is first class, clean, spacious shower cubicles (sensibly with a bench/seat to place your belongings) and lovely hot water. Close to what is referred to as a 'country park with lakes' it is very overgrown and not as assessible as one would expect. There is nothing in the local vicinity; no public transport, no pubs/cafes nearby (nearest cafe is 3 miles away); however there is a garage on the main road which is well stocked as a supermarket/off license in addition to daily newspapers etc. ITransport is a necessity if you want to go anywhere off site as the site is quite remote. As with many club members, we enjoy seeing the wildlife when out and about; unfortunately, everywhere you look at this site there are warning signs for Adders, both in the immediate area and in the surrounding undergrowth - this was disturbing for us and our dog, so for this reason, we were not sorry when our departure day arrived and we moved on.

Two weeks in an idyllic location

We got back home recently after a fortnight at this delightful site set by the River Breamish at the Powburn end of the lovely Breamish Valley. We were made very welcome on arrival by the friendly smiling staff and found a nice pitch near the facilities block, for our camper van. The facilities are excellent and always spotless, despite a few inconsiderate guests not rinsing down and cleaning the sinks after doing their washing up - there's always some. All pitches are hard standing and you do need hard ground pegs to be able to pitch an awning. There's a nice walk loop through woodland that's part of the site, which takes you past the R. Breamish, which if you're a birder like me, has interest in the form of Dipper. We heard Yellowhammers singing most days too, and Siskin and Redpoll flying over. There's a nice walk upstream from the site to Ingram, where there's a nice friendly cafe that does good latte and delicious cakes. The return leg description in the leaflet isn't described too well and we did go wrong, as did another couple we spoke to. You have to make sure you follow as near as poss to the river. The walk at the far end of the valley, to Linhope Spout, is also worth doing. On the coast there's excellent birding at Druridge Bay where some shallow pools have hides and attract waders. Just at the north end of Druridge Bay there's also East Chevington reserve and south of the Druridge Pools is Cresswell Pond, also good for waders. Dunstanburgh Castle is worth a visit [walk from Craster - about a mile, flat], and in the summer the cliffs atop which it sits, have a huge Kittiwake colony [the largest in Northumbs], with nesting Fulmar and Razorbill too. Warkworth Castle is also good. These two castles are English Heritage, of which we are members. We passed on Alnwick and Bamburgh which although impressive, are privately owned and expensive. Be aware that to visit the coastal sites requires some good navigation on minor roads as all the main roads run North>South. As mentioned, I'm a birder and although this was a family holiday [myself, wife Anne and dog Poppy] I still managed to see 113 different species!

Outstanding & friendly

We are still currently on this site but feel we have to mention are experience thus far. The site is peaceful & quiet and is extremely well maintained & run. All the amenities are spotlessly clean, bins emptied regularly with no issues whatsoever. The 4 Wardens are cheerful, friendly & informative with reference to the area, local amenities & bus information. We feel that these 4 wardens go far beyond there responsibilities for example we borrowed our daughter & Son in Laws Motorhome and had issues with electrics and they were only to happy to assist and rectify the problem. Also we were walking to catch a bus only to find I’d forgotten cash for our fares so i ran back & was just about to return when both lady wardens offered to drive me down to ensure I didn’t miss the bus with my wife, so Linda kindly drove me down there I was so grateful as it was the hottest day ever in the UK. Amazing site and even more amazing Wardens thank you.

3 night break

The only down side was the lady warden on arrival, telling myself and the chap in front off for arriving ten minutes early. Yes, i know what the arrival times are but after a 6 hour drive I was not going to drive around for another ten minutes

Short Relaxing Stay

Rolled up last minute , without making a booking ! However the Wardens ! Ian could not have been more accommodating taking time out from his daily routine checking availability . Very refreshing focus on Customer Service from Michelle, nothing was to much trouble for these two , just made the start of this short stay perfect . Now one of our favorite sites , even though River Breamish is quite large the well kept pitches are well placed with a good surrounding shrubs and tree's gives the site a lovey quite ambiance. All facilities were immaculate a credit to the both Management and their assistants . Will be back soon , but will reserve pitch to avoid possible disappointment .

Lovely site.

It's all been said to be honest. Lovely site, excellent dog walk. Serviced pitch brilliant. Wardens welcoming and Ian such a reassuring friendly presence about the place. I noticed some standard pitches do look a bit tired. Loo block spotless. I'm not sure how easy it would be for motorhomes as we got around a lot by car and it is a bit out of the way. Wish it were closer our 275 mile journey is pretty unpleasant up m62 and m60 but I hope to visit again. Well done to all the team. your a credit to the club. The local garage can accommodate caravans behind the back and shop stocks most essentials if you need anything en route to site.
