Peaceful overnight stop

This was an overnight stop on our way home from a holiday in Scotland. We had stayed here before for longer. The site is in a very secluded location. It is a mature site and is very well maintained by the wardens. The welcome was friendly. Pitches are generous in size and the general feel was one of peace and tranquillity. There is a nature walk around the land adjacent to the site. We were there on a Thursday when a Fish and Chip van calls. Site and Fish and Chips are highly recommended.

One of our favourite sites

We come to River Breamish every year as it is convenient for walking in the Cheviots. We love this site. There are new wardens this year but they are maintaining the high standards and the toilet/shower block is immaculate. There is a very good shop at the local petrol station which sells a good selection of frozen "home cooked" style meals. Alnwick is half an hour away for Sainsbury's, Morrisons etc. The fish and chip van on a Monday is very popular and well worth queuing for. The RAF seems to practice low flying overhead very frequently but this did not cause us any problems. Also, as it is sited on a lovely nature reserve there is a lot of wildlife, including flocks of geese who honk noisily in the early hours of the morning. We mainly explore the local countryside inland but the coast with excellent beaches is not far away. We usually travel further afield to near Berwick on Tweed to eat out at a fantastic pub called the Plough at Allerdean and can also recommend the Tankerville Arms at Eglingham. Unusually for a CC site there is a small tent area on this site which proved useful when our daughter came to stay for a few days. We love the peace and quiet and location of River Breamish and will definitely be back.

Excellent as usual

Return trip to this site and once again impeccably maintained with a great shower block and friendly wardens. Well laid out, spacious and quiet. The local pub (The Plough, 20min walk) serves epic food portions and they're very friendly but for me its become a bit "quantity over quality". If you want to leave the car behind you can get the 473 bus from outside the pub into Alnwick in about 25mins. The local garage has a Londis store so if you forget anything you can get most things in there.

Great site

We had heard reviews about this site before we even got here from people we were talking to on our previous campsite and we were not dissapointed. quiet, friendly and wow what a shower block, one of the best ive seen on a campsite yet. the people staying here seemed to be so friendly and often took time out just to stand and chat, the site sort of puts you in the mood to just chill. There is a pub about a mile away and the food there was great, there's also a shop at the garage which is very well stocked. We had a great time and met some lovely folk.

Great Place To Stay

Just had a great week at this site, the site itself was quiet and clean and the staff were fantastic and friendly. The sad part was it rained from Sun to Wed but that did not stop us from having a great time. Will be booking to go again in the very near future. Still have loads of nearby places to see.

Lovely Site!

Loved this quiet, clean site and loved the area! Excellent toilet/shower/laundry block and very helpful wardens.  I personally prefer a site with some kind of security gates, but otherwise it is perfect!

A favourite stop!

A great site with peace an quiet at a maximum! The wardens may have changed but the welcome and the standards have not changed! (This is a good thing!) Every time we visit this site there are new things to explore this time some of the attractions at Ford and Etal the corn mill powered by water and the light railway. There are plenty of coffee shops and bistros in the neighbourhood.

Best site I've stayed on

We came here for the half term holiday in May and enjoyed the site and area so much we came back again the end of July. The site is clean and well kept the wardens are happy and helpful. There isn't a play park for the children but there is a sports field. This site is very close to the river and parents should be aware that although it looks shallow after rainfall it is very fast flowing and children should not be unsupervised, unfortunately some parents have no control over what their children do. This site seems to have fewer children roaming free than other sites making it very peaceful. When we arrived in July there were loads of flies which were attracted to the warm car these flies disappeared quite quickly and were not a problem, I think that it was because it had been very wet. There is plenty to do in the area good walks and lots of castles to visit we will be going again next year. The fish and chip van calls at the site on Mondays and Thursdays well worth a visit and if you miss it on Fridays it's at Powburn village hall.

A lovely relaxing week's holiday in a beautiful part of the country

A lovely site with excellent facilities.  The site is divided into smaller areas screened by trees and bushes and surrounded by a nature reserve - we were pitched on the grass area near the exit and it was lovely and quiet, we were hardly aware that we were part of a larger site. Miles from the rat race but so close to the beautiful River Breamish valley and not far to the stunning coastline. Wifi was an added bonus.
