This is a beautiful site in a beautiful location. I have two gripes - one is the lack of facilities for children (e.g. a park) and the other is the price. Don't get me wrong, if a serviced hardstanding pitch was guaranteed it would be worth the money but pitches are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis and it's no cheaper for a non-serviced grass pitch. Would love to see a small park and the ability to book the type of pitch you want. There were also signs up saying no bikes / scooters - I'm assuming this meant just around the toilet block but it wasn't particularly clear. I really hope it didn't mean no bikes / scooters on the site at all since this is the only thing the kids had to do. Other than that I really couldn't fault the site - the toilet block was immaculate and despite the site being full it was VERY quiet on our visit.
June 2017 stay
Stayed for 10 nights in June 2017. The wardens were very friendly and welcoming and the facilities were immaculate. The on site dog walk / nature reserve is really pleasant and I was very pleased to note my fellow caravaners had always cleaned up after their dogs.
The site was generally very tranquil, if full, with the slight exception that the adjacent waste management site operated by Northumbria council started work at 7.30 am and the sound of vehicle reversing beepers travelled over the site but not too much of an issue unless you are a light sleeper who likes a lie in!
Stayed on a grass pitch which was perfect as the weather was fantastic, I fail to understand why so many people head for the hard standing pitches in the good weather, the grass just cannot be beaten in my view.
Excellent site-again!
Just had another excellent stay at this site. Found it many years ago and have been coming back fairly regularly ever since. Wardens still doing an excellent job, site still beautiful with an interesting selection of wildlife - including members!! A very good base from which to explore Northumberland.

Wedding route
We stopped here, on our Gretna Green wedding route.
Lovely place, clean, friendly and scenic.
Great for days in Alnwick gardens and castle.
A TASTE OF NORTHUMBERLAND
We chose this site as we had never been to Northumberland before and judged it to be in the best position for access to both the coast and the countryside. Lovely site with a choice of different areas to pitch in. We chose a cul d sac and managed to get a pitch in the corner on grass. This was for added privacy as we had our new dog with us and she had never been away before.
There is a really decent size wooded area actually on site for walking the dog, also for picnics and paddling in the river. We saw various bird life, deer and bats during our stay. There is also a nature reserve within 5/10 minutes walk which is owned privately but you are allowed to use as long as you keep dogs under close control. Lots of birdlife here for the tweeters. There is also a well stocked service station on the main road, approx. 15 minutes walk away for all your basics and newspapers. A fair bit of travelling required to get to coast and towns such as Berwick on Tweed, but well worth it. Loads of country parks owned by the council that are very well kept and accessible, even with a motor home. Visited a number of National Trust sites whilst based here, Cragside was really interesting. Overall a really good site - would definitely stay there again.
What a great site
We often choose sites close to the coast but saw this site and thought it looked good for a three day stopover on the way home. We were pleasantly surprised at what a great site this is. It has the best dog walk we have come across as it is long, alongside a river, through woodland and is very well maintained. For wildlife lovers this site is ideal and deserves it's David Bellamy Conservation Award. The wardens were very pleasant and helpful as always. The facilities were first class in the way that they were set out and looked after. We took the time to drive out though the lovely countryside to the Ingram National Park and along the River Breamish into the impressive Cheviot Hills. It was not too strenuous and there was a lot too see.
We also drove to the coast which is not too far unless you get lost and explore the narrow country roads as we did. It was however a really pleasant drive. Craster is always worth a visit and we walked on the beach at Boulmer. We will definitely be back out of the school holidays for longer and to explore the area better.
I may be biased...
I may be biased because I live in the county of Northumberland, but I keep returning to this lovely site just to relax with friends or this last time on 8/9 April on my own. I could do what I like when I like! So I just chilled out in the 'van. Next time I am going to walk the Cheviot from Hethpool car park. Anyone interested?
Pleasantly surprised
Last minute 3 day stay and pleased we did. The site is set within what feels like a nature reserve with most of the pitches over-looking grass or hedge rows rather than the 'car park' feel that some have these days.
Adjacent to a river dog walk and two large lakes next door boasting all manor of wild life but also beware of the adders in the area, we saw two!
30 mins or so drive to the coast if you prefer to get out and good walks straight from the site. Try Ingram (http://www.northumberlandnationalpark.org.uk/places/river-breamish/)and sit by the river or have an ice cream from the cafe tucked away.
Great site for more than just a stopover.
Just a quick stopover
we just stopped for one night on our way home from Scotland. but the staff were pleasant and the site was spotless. we hope to come back up and stay longer to tour the area properly.
Three Nights, two Adults and two Poodles!!
Very pleasant arrival when greated by the warden. Clean site and excellent shower blocks. Not much else on the site but nice areas for walks with the 🐶
