Inconsiderate drivers

This is a lovely site extremely peaceful, unfortunately spoiled by drivers of motorhomes and ones towing caravans who totally ignore the speed limit. This isn't the only site I have found this problem and I feel it needs dealt with before there is an accident and I'm sorry to say most of the ones ignoring the rules are the elderly who seem to think the rules are not made for them. Anyway rant over getting back to the site lovely in everyway setting ,facilities and staff. Good fish and chips van on Thursday another on a Monday but didn't try these. ideally situated for the Northumberland coast and castles will definitely return.

Peace and Tranquility

Although I have spent time in the area, but mainly towards the coast this was the first time we have stopped in Powburn. The site is a gem, nestled at the foot of the Cheviots. Walking from the site is excellent the only downside being that on two occasions we encountered cattle whilst we were on public footpaths with our dog. I am not complaining as that where cattle graze. I mention this as a warning to dog owners who do not like to pass cattle with a dog. The nature reserve next door to the site is well worth a visit. The site is pristine, the whole area including the toilet block are kept spotless. The pitches (H/S) were large and level. The shop is well stocked for minor requirements. The shop and post office located at the service station half a mile away is more like a mini supermarket but a bit on the pricey side. There is also a tea room located behind the service station (not used). A site that will be on the ist for a re visit.

A gen of a site - as long as you want peace and quiet

Stopped here for 5 nights on way back from a week in York. Hidden well away from the main road this site at night is staggeringly quiet and dark - more on this later. Wardens - excellent, knowledgeable and welcoming. Sites - plenty of space and well tended For us ideal but no real playpark for kids - loved this after York!! Dark - at night very - so if you love the stars this is ideal Well situated for all the local towns and villages and the Glendale show was a bonus! Dog walk is excellent, expect some nice from dogs - they do bark occasionally(yes we have one) Chip van - what is it with English chips they are all a bit limp - other than that I don't like getting ripped off seeing a pile of large fish which the locals get and "the rest" Excellent site we will visit again

Lovely site. Not as Peaceful as we Hoped.

The other site reviews sum up the site well. Usual impeccable CC facilities, a nice mix of grass and hardstandings maintained well. Access is easy but the surfaced public approach road is quite narrow unless you drive into the potholes on the unsurfaced verges. Staff very helpful and pleasant and worked hard to keep the site attractive. Lots of attention to keeping visitors informed about local matters. Not mentioned in previous reviews much if at all, The Tankerville Arms at Eglingham, about four miles from the site is a gem. The staff were friendly and the food and local ales were excellent. Of note is the fact that even in peak season it wasnt too crowded (very quiet mid week lunchtime) but booking is a good idea in the evening. The site is surrounded by many special places within 25 miles. There were many dogs on site, particularly too many small yappy animals that let loose whenever someone walked past their van. This impaired the peace and quiet on site and was disturbing as early as 6.15am. Children on site in peak season are an inevitability but they all seemed to make an effort to avoid disturbing visitors. Well done! I give 5 stars because irresponsible dog owners should not result in a site being marked down.

Lovely site for walking and visiting Northumberland

A lovely site - we pitched on grass area which added to the sense of being away from it. NB on our area of grass we need rock pegs for the awning. Trips to Lindisfarne and Farne Islands are a must as is a walk up the Hill forts from the Breamish Valley Country Park - We loved Alnwick (be sure to visit Barter Books) and Alnmouth .. The site includes some very nice walks around lake/pond and near river. Watch out for dogs and bicycles - every caravan seems to be running a dog walking service - and kids were on bikes on site a lot especially near the entrance - where they sometimes were quite vulnerable to manoeuvring caravans and motorhomes . A highly recommended site - but expect a drive out for shops or a meal out and come prepared

Tranquil visit

This was our first visit to River Breamish and we enjoyed our time here. The service facilities were excellent and staff friendly and always busy. The choice of pitches were limited owing to the site being busy but we were happy with the one we ended up with. There was a garage/shop at the end of the lane from the park that served our needs, reception sold milk and ice cream. Apart from potholes the roads were reasonable for getting a motor home around, we visited Alnwick, using the castle car park for £3.00a day and we were placed in and area with other motor homes. Parking in Banburgh was free and again space for longer vehicles. We can recommend the Grace Darling museum worth a visit too. Our main grumble or downside was children hurtling around the site roads on bikes, they were beyond safe and we saw some near misses with cars. There will be an accident before long. The site is peaceful and we would visit it again if we stayed in the area. We used our own mobile wifi rather than the sites and had no problems. In all, a good visit.

July 2017

Have just returned from River Breamish Site, our third visit. We find it an excellent site for what we want to do, walking and site seeing. Walks up the Harthope valley and from Ingrham are very good. Alnwick, Wooler and Bambrough are within easy driving distance and the driving is through the wonderful Northumbrian country side. Returning to the site, facilities are some of the best we have come across and are always clean and well looked after. The only problem we had was with the internet, our devices lost their timing and dates as soon as we entered the site so none of our aps would work. This is a known problem which is not the sites fault but as a warning if you have a kindle put it in flight mode before you get there.

Rainy stay

First the good. The site is in beautiful surroundings and has ample opportunity for local walking. The picnic benches by the river and lake are a lovely touch. There are spectacular walks in the hills and on the coast not far away. The wardens were friendly and helpful as usual and the facilities were good. The pitches are generally large and well spaced. The less good. We had a lot of rain but it would be churlish to blame the club for that and it was glorious when the sun did come out. The gripe which I have with all the sites is the number of members, including parents of small children, who are unable to to understand what is really a simple concept – the speed limit is 5mph, I think it is time the club took some action before there is a serious accident. Overall a great site and we will return.
