The site situation was ideal for us to take a rest on our journey south. As my husband is disabled he had to take a long detour to the toilet block to avoid steps. The toilet block is tucked away in a corner and I thought it rather isolated visiting at night as there is no key system in place. The wardens could not have been more friendly and helpful.
weekend Getaway
Great site for a getaway not to big really clean and tidy, within easy reach of 3 national parks. the Yorkshire dales being the obvious but the Yorkshire Moors and the Lake district are within easy reach .
Richmond is only 4 miles away .we will be visiting again.
Excellent
Have just returned from an annual three week stay at Hargill. This is one of the best sites on the network which, along with the outstanding views, is down to the first class wardens, Mary and Harry, who look after the day to day running of the site. The facilities are spotlessly clean as is the rest of the site.Already looking forward to next years visit.
Another enjoyable stay
This is the fifth occasion we have stayed on this site. It is very friendly and relaxed which due to the layout gives the impression of being quite small and uncluttered. The views are highly impressive but above all is the location and convenience. Richmond 6 mins away with Swaledale Reeth a pleasant drive and Barnard Castle about 10 min drive.
The toilet block will be modernised this winter and there is no doubt my wife and I will return for another short break of 4/5 days. For those sensitive to noise you can hear background traffic from the A66. This does not bother us and you can never hear traffic noise inside the caravan. Hope this helps.
Autumn break
Conveniently located site to enjoy north Yorkshire and head up into Northumberland. All amenities clean and as we have become used to. Will use this site again if we ever get back up to the north.

Immaculate!
Enjoyed our overnight stay here on route South. Some might find it a little noisy as the A66 is very close. All facilities were sparkling, and the wardens very pleasant and helpful.

Convenient Hub but very noisy
As a base for touring this beautiful area or a stopover you cannot fault it. The site is very clean and the wardens are great.
Sadly we had a foggy wet day so that always brings the shortcomings into sharp focus. We had booked a pitch without awning as we had a motorhome. Big mistake! These pitches are understandably kept at the top of the site adjacent to the A66 (100 yards). This is a busy dual carriageway that operates with heavy lorries all night. Solution - take earplugs (the club should issue these free at check in instead of denying the problem). The lower pitches with awnings (fully booked) I doubt have the same problem.
If you have a motor home be aware that the pitch slopes diagonally making it difficult to get near level.
If you like walking directly off a site be aware that there are no footpaths nearby and all roads carry high speed traffic.
The buses are only every two hours but do stop directly outside the gate.
I guess my memories would have been better if we had been blessed with good weather to enjoy the beautiful views across the valley and get around more. So be prepared but don't be put off.

Credit to the wardens
This is the first time we have stayed at this site, but as we usually do we had done our homework. Why would anyone complain about the traffic noise when they know the site is next to the A66. Some people are just clueless!
As it happens the noise was not a problem to us, we enjoyed the good weather and fresh air and slept like babies!
The Wardens keep the site and facilities spotless and are a credit to the club. The views from the site are wonderful.
No need to fret
I could find nothing to fault this site although other visitors had made comments in the visitors book which I found unbelievable. Some people expect it to be the Ritz. The warden lives in the real world. During my stay I had the continuous worry of leaving, having to drive up the hill to the halt sign and having to cross a busy dual carriageway. In the end there was no traffic and it was a doddle.
