Good site
Nice site
Only a stopover
A week in Yorkshire
first one night stay at caravan club site
Nice but not quiet
We stayed at this site, which is Approximatley 25 miles from home, for two nights in order to try out our new awning on the motorhome. The site is Clean and tidy, but remote from nearby villages so some means of travel is needed to get out and around, we had our small tow car with us so no problems for us to run out to have a local look see, especially around Richmond and Brompton. The site is right next to the A66 and if like us you end up on a pitch near the road you will definitely hear the traffic especially in the early hours of the morning... Many wagons and cars using the road throughout the night, I am a good sleeper and it managed to keep me awake. Our pitch was on grass, pitch 16 if you check the site plan, and despite the club blurb saying "gentle sloping pitches" I would contest that the one we was on,and the neighbouring ones were a deal more than gentle. The facilities of toilets and showers are dated but kept clean and the water is nice and hot. On the whole the site is good and worth staying at for stopovers and short breaks, we don't have children with us (all grown up) but I would suggest that they would need to be good a occupying themselves as there is not a lot for them to do. Finally the site does have a dog walking area that is tidy but small and it is worth noting that there is very little opportunity to take a walk off site where your pooch can get some good exercise Without being on barrow roads. Having visited this site, we may return but would want a pitch well away from the road, and try to request a level pitch to aid set up and comfort.

Historic town and good stopover
We stayed on two consecutive weekends for one night each time on our way to and from Edinburgh. We found the wardens very helpful and the site clean and tidy. The toilet block is slightly dated but everything worked. The views from the site are wonderful across the Yorkshire countryside. On our return visit we went into Richmond, lovely historic town, and visited the castle (free to EH members). On both occasions we enjoyed a lovely meal in the 'Pizzaria' restaurant in Richmond. You can refuel cheaply at Morrisons in Richmond.
