Putts Corner

Excellent site, well positioned for visiting places of interest. The wardens are friendly and helpful, and keep the site in excellent condition. Well recommended. Internet connection is not so good.

One of the very best!

We had 4 nights at Putts Corner and how we wished we could have stayed for longer. But we were on our way home from the North and this was en-route. The 4 nights was a brilliant end to our holiday. The facilities are great, two lovely blocks. A more than adequate dog walk through the woods (leading up to the pub!!!) and large pitches. And not forgetting the Wardens who were .....well wonderful (they actually go to a local chippy and get your fish & chips for you! How is that for service?) and as for convenience, Honiton, Sidmouth, Beer, Lyme Regis etc are a short drive away. Ottery St.Mary is good for shopping, likewise Honiton. Altogether a brilliant site.

Excellent site

This is my second visit to the site, the previous visit being 2 years ago. The location is good with the whole of the East Devon coast being easily accessible as well as delightful inland towns such as Honiton and Ottery. Exeter is also easy to get to. The wardens are welcoming, keep the site in excellent condition and are very helpful if there is a problem. Both toilet blocks are modern, in very good condition and kept very clean and tidy. The dog walk had improved since our last visit and links to the walk through the woods to the Hare & Hounds. We didn't try the pub as we ran out of time. We will certainly be back to visit again

A lot more road and aircraft noise than on our last stay.

We stayed at Putts Corner for four night in mid September. It is a well kept site and the wardens are helpful. We arrived a little later than expected due to the M5 being closed at Exeter, this resulted in us not having much choice of pitch as the site was very full. The grass pitches slope in a multitude of directions, and in some cases all at once, so we opted for the last remaining hard standing towards the top of the site on the right. At this time of year, the best pitches for receiving sunshine are in the middle area, but these are all fully serviced pitches. I think we'd pay that bit extra next time and book one of those. The last time we came here it was a lovely quiet site. This time there was a lot of road noise from the road that runs alongside the site and a lot more aircraft flying in and out of Exeter airport. There are some lovely places to visit from here. We particularly enjoyed Sidmouth and Lyme Regis. As we are retired caravanners, we can't really comment on how good this site is for families, so I've given it an average rating.

Fine except for lukewarm/cold showers

Well run club site as usual apart from having a chilly shower about 9.30 pm in the new shower block. Wrapped myself in a towel to see if it was just the one shower but no joy! Husband and I both experienced this. Warden stated that this happens at times because of low water pressure but this isn`t the sort of thing one expects on a full facility site with the higher prices.

Beware of Car Hire

Lovely site. Pleasant Wardens. Facilities as expected. On arrival at the site we had very little choice of pitches which is fair enough when the site is almost full. We ended up on a pitch which was the best one available. It was sloping from back to front and also side to side which meant to get the motorhome level I would have needed a lot more ramps than anybody would normally carry so we did the best we could. I asked the warden if we could be told who would be leaving in the next few days so that we could move from where we were. I was told he could't tell us as there had been complaints from people saying they had been pestered by people who wanted the pitch they were on. I certainly wouldn't pester anybody and I don't think anybody else would. I think you are less likely to pester anybody if you keep an eye out to see if anybody is showing signs of moving and just ask if it's ok to put a sign on the pitch to show that it has been taken. Beware if you are hiring a car from Enterprise as they will not deliver to Putts Corner as it is too far from the nearest depot which is in Exeter. It cost us about £14 in bus fare to get to Exeter to collect the car but they did bring us back when we returned the car. Quite a remote site so transport does make things easier as bus service is not punctual as the local bus travels from Exeter to Monition which is a fair distance so delays are regular. Some noise as planes do fly over enroute to and from Exeter Airport but not too bad. My standard comment still applies to not being prepared to pay for Wifi. Come on CC and provide wifi freely as most places are nowadays.

Devon Delight

We arrived onto a very busy site and had to take a grass pitch rather than one with a hard standing which was a little disappointing. However, once the awning was up we relaxed into the quiet rural ambience. The staff were helpful and courteous at all times and the local fish and chips (delivered to site) were delicious.

Superb site, fantastic wardens

Just spent a few days at the site and go a couple of times a year and this is our favourite site.  The wardens, Debbie and Keith, are always so friendly and helpful and will be sorely missed when they move on.  Wish all wardens were like them.  The site is kept immaculate and the pub at the top of the road does the best carvery ever.  There are so many places to visit in the area.

Putts Corner

Stayed here for 3 nights mid September. It was our first visit to this site but won't be our last. Wardens friendly & helpful. We'd come from a very boggy site in Dorset so were more inclined towards hardstanding  than grass for this part of our holiday! We caught the bus into Sidmouth on the Saturday, a 5 minute walk from the site through the woods to the bus stop on the main road opposite The Hare & Hounds pub. One of our better decisions as there was a vintage car rally in Sidmouth & parking was at a premium. A few people we got chatting to on the site seem to feel like us that some of the pitches were too shady due to mature trees casting shadows over them. Something the club may need to think about as it's probably a job that would require specialist intervention rather than the excellent wardens having to tackle them. We did visit the Hare & Hounds pub for a drink but didn't eat there. The food looked very nice & it appeared to be a very popular place, large beer garden & an excellent playground complete with pirate ship climbing frame for children. Will definitely be going back to this site for longer that 3 nights next time as there are plenty of places in the area we would like to visit.
