Last outing for the year

Our first stay here and will not be the last. What a wonderful week we had, good weather, good location and great for dog walking. Kingfisher spotted on our canal walk, very friendly place. Well done

Peace and tranquility

What a lovely site! Close to a beautiful lake and abundant birdlife. I saw a kingfisher for the first time here. Others said they had seen them too, so not a one off. Safe for children to play although young ones would need supervision by the lake. Lots of interesting walking and cycling routes, mostly off road. Especially good if you are disabled as the routes are pretty flat and with a good surface. An easy walk to the nearest bus stop and a slightly longer one to Stavely. The facilities are excellent. Great washrooms and generous sized showers. Enough hooks in them too, which is not always the case. The pitches are well spaced. For those who like the great outdoors this is an attractive site. Hard to believe it was once a colliery. It is possible for the more active to walk to Chesterfield along the canal. Much more dirdct a route than the bus!

Rest and relaxation

We have just come back from a lovely weekend at this site. The site is kept extremely clean and tidy and the shower and toilet facilities were immaculate. We enjoyed walking around the lakes and nature reserves with our dog. There is a kids play area just at the opening of the site so the kids can play quite happily while you sit and watch the swans and ducks on the lake. If you like to fish there are plenty of pegs to use but I am not sure of costs.  All in all a very nice site for a quiet and relaxed weekend.

Great stay

First time at Poolsbrook stayed for four nights, great site for getting about, Chesterfield close by, Critch tram museum not to far by car, whent to Bolsover castle not impressed with this,Its just a ruin no furniture in the rooms, well disapointed with this. Being in a country park good walk around by the lake, pity the cafe was closed when we was there, staff very helpful, friendly, will definitely be back, would recommend this site to all.

Excellent site

Visited Poolsbrook for the first time last weekend, cant believe havent been here before.  Excellent site for dog walking, cycling - either the trans pennine route which passes the entrance to the site or the country park next door.  Free fishing at the country park too.  Wardens friendly and helpful.  Would recommend visit to Rother Valley - another lovely country park.  Poolsbrook was full but it was still very quiet and facilities were very clean.  Will definitely be back.

brilliant site

Talking to a chap who was working close by home, Nottingham, he suggested I should try Poolsbrook Country Park C C site and how good it was. He was not wrong. First and foremost I would like to say thank you to the wardens how pleasant and helpful and cheerful the staff were. Booked two nights originally spoke to the staff and got two more nights. The paths leading to the Pennine Trail close by, the Chesterfield canal, Cuckoo way, and all the work by the volunteers on that stretch at Staveley made for an enjoyable stay. Loads of walks in the area. Thanks for the loan of the O S map.
