This site gets lots of favourable reviews, but it is not for us. The approach road has some challenging narrow stretches and we met a bus on the way in. Luckily we were next to a gateway otherwise I am not sure how that would have played out.
The site pitches are laid out in rows facing down the hill. Ok, I get it but it is so formal and uninspired. Not only that, but we chose pitch 33 and discovered that pitch 7 had been moved and located right in front of us - so a spoiled view. Now that was also a challenge when the time came to hook up to leave. I have never known such a situation.
We did walking and cycling from the site. The 7 mile walk along the coast path to Wembury has to be our least favourite coast path walk - and we have done a lot.
Unfortunately not really one for us.
Brilliant little site
We are almost at the end of a week here. We chose the site because it didn't have any facilities and thought it should be peaceful. We were not disappointed.
The site overlooks Plymouth sound, as the name implies, and has fantastic views of the Sound and Cornwall beyond as well as Dartmoor in the opposite direction. The wardens are really helpful and friendly too!
You can be on the South West Coast Path at Bovisand Beach in around 15 minutes. We walked in both directions (on different days!) Left to Wembury returning across the fields, and right to Mount Batten catching the ferry into Plymouth. Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers are only a short drive away where you can walk along the banks of the Yealm and round Gara Point for yet more spectacular views.
We will definitely return.
Suited Our Needs Perfectly
We chose this site because of its proximity to the South West Coastal Path which I am gradually walking. It is a basic site (no facilities) but the location is second to none with a glorious view over Plymouth Sound. The approach road is narrow in places but there are numerous spots to pass - the final right turn also needs care if you are a wide/long outfit. Friendly wardens who keep the site clean and tidy. Great dog walk and a field for children to run around in. Pitches towards the back of the site are very level and many give a view over the sea. We were there during a spell of very windy weather (60 plus mph) - do take heed of the forecast if you are putting up an awning. Plenty of walking from the site with a small shop along the road for basics such as milk, bread, papers. Whilst we were there, a chap brought up a young eagle owl and it was fascinating to watch it flying round and chat to him about it. WiFI seemed to work OK and there was a good mobile signal (EE). Highly recommended site.
Perfect location overlooking the sea
What a location! On a cliff top overlooking Plymouth Sound. Great views. Also sheep and lambs in the neighbouring field to entertain you. The facilities are limited but were everything we needed. The site is quite exposed so bear this in mind if the weather forecast is windy.
The approach road is narrow in places (and we did meet the bus going the other way - but they waited for us!) but is passable, particularly if not towing. Plymouth isn’t far away and there are local beaches.
The staff were helpful and everything felt very Covid safe.
Excellent Site
We have just returned from a lovely few days away. Part of our trip included 3 nights at Plymouth Sound. We had amazing views and the walk down to the cove was well worth the climb back up 'that' hill. The site is spotless and very quiet. I managed to get lots of amazing pictures of the views. Would highly recommend this site if you're looking for incredible views and some peace and quiet.
Amazing Location
We really enjoyed our stay despite very strong winds for part of the time. The position giving views overlooking Plymouth Sound is outstanding. Ideally suited to explorting the South Hams and the Coastal Path. The wardens were very helpful. The foot ferry from Mount Batten to the Barbican is only minutes away with free parking and gives instant access to Plymouth, its shops harbour and history.
Will recommend whenever asked.

First site of the year
We stayed here for a night as part of a longer holiday. The pitches at the top of the site are level, sloping as you move further down. Most have really good views of Plymouth Sound. The dog area looked fine and there was a field that children were playing on. No facilities but the water and emptying point were very clean. The hedgerows around were thick with spring growth. Really lovely. There is a nice (but steep) walk down to the beach at Bovisand. The wardens were very welcoming and helpful in pointing out level pitches for a quick one night stay.
Nice to return
A good small site with views over Plymouth Sound, the surrounding countryside and distant Dartmoor. Good to see a drive over motorhome point. Due to exceptionally dry weather motorhomes could park further forward on the very sloping site, whether they could get out again in poor weather might change this new idea.
The local pubs The Mussel Inn and the Eddystone aren't open (due to Covid restrictions) at the time of writing. The village shop for basics and papers and the adjoining cycle shop are open. The beach cafe is doing take aways so a stroll or drive down the steep hill to Bovisand is worth the effort. A good sandy beach and facilities plus coastal walks make the area around this site an ideal spot for a quiet escape. The bonus at the moment is a young eagle owl in training, you might see him and hear all about him on the playing field.
Favourite places nearby are Wembury, Newton Ferrers and Noss Mayo. Plymouth is a short drive away, the bus service is very limited.
Peaceful site with lots of possibilities for exploration
Recently returned from a four-day visit to this site. What a find! The hosts - Kevin and Anita - were friendly and helpful and always prepared to have a chat about the delights the area had to offer. It is a perfect area for our e-bikes with lots of coves and beaches to explore. The Mount Batten ferry (which takes bikes) made it easy to explore the city and its waterfront. By using the Cremyll ferry (again takes bikes), we spent a fabulous day cycling to Mount Edgcumbe House and Park, and then onto Kingsand, Cawsand and Rame Head. 22 miles of stunning scenery with a lovely café in a NIssan Hut at Maker. Just a pity we had to leave before we could use our e-bikes to enjoy the Plym Valley Cycle Trail, and other routes in the area. No matter - we will be back. We need to enjoy the stunning views from the site again!

Fabulous
My daughter has just moved to Plymouth for a year so I booked this site for a few nights to take her up. I absolutely loved it. The warden was so helpful, as I am quite new to caravanning and I'm not used to slopes.
After a stressful few days shopping with my daughter, I found I couldn't wait to get back to the site to relax. The views are stunning.
I can't fault the site. It is now our favourite site and I will be back.
It is also an ideal base to visit Plymouth and the surrounding area.
Thank you for a lovely break
