Lovely site - pity about the staff

First club site I've been to where the staff generally didn't seem to care and gave the impression they would be a lot happier without guests. The site itself was lovely, clean and tidy. The pitch was in great condition and the views were wonderful

Worth knowing about

We are glad we found this site. Lovely quiet location with views over Plymouth Sound. It is a no facilities site which we like & wish the Caravan & Motorhome Club had more of as we prefer to use our own on board facilities. The site was full suggesting that we are not alone in that view. The warden was great, very pleasant & well organised & coping with the challenges bought about by a period of heavy rain.

Loved it

Just spent 13 nights here. Firstly, the roads are narrow on the final mile or so but no big issue. Once you get here its totally worth it for the stunning views and peace and quiet. No toilet block as stated and one of the reasons we booked as its all onboard the caravan anyway.if its an issue,go elsewhere. Bit of a slope toward the bottom of site and if you are confident of being able to get level and then get off the pitch if its wet then worth it for the views. Lots of walks and things to do locally. My one and only gripe, and potentially a serious one, was somebody accessing their pitch on the row in front by driving over our pitch just as we were setting up, literally coming within 2 foot of our caravan door. I think it should be mentioned at check in to access pitches from the end of rows rather than driving between units to access row in front.

Very warm welcome!

A little gem of a site that really suits those that enjoy just being out in the countryside. No hard standings, and a very steep slope for half of the site is a consideration to bear in mind - particularly for large motorhomes, plus the approach roads do have narrow sections, but once there you can relax and just enjoy the peace of the setting. This year all sites are exceptionally busy, and that is the case here too. Wardens Kevin and Anita couldn’t have been more helpful, supportive and accommodating despite the pressures. Always smiling and offering help and advice about the local area, and with time for a chat. Enjoyed our stay very much.

Great little site within walking distance of a lovely beach.

Stayed at the end of May. we chose this because of it's location and also because it had no toilets or showers. The dog walk was great and gave chance of shade and a run for dog. Wardens were very friendly and helpful. They were very knowledgeable about suitable walks. Pub and shop within easy walking distance. Hope to return again.

A nice stay

It is a peaceful pleasant site unusually without a toilet shower block. This was not an issue for just the two of us and with the Covid still around we felt much safer using just our own facilities and we benefited from the reduction in the cost of not having a toilet shower block. Many of the pitches are on a slope which we coped with OK in our Motorhome but the way the pitches are laid out is fine if you have a caravan, then it is easy to level but not for a motorhome. The site is at the top of hill which gives some lovely views but if you are walking or cycling remember you have to come back to the top (we had electric bikes so not a major problem) The access road is narrow single track in places with passing places which was an issue as it was so busy and this was June it could be a big issue in the height of season. But this applies to many sites on the coast. Would we use it again - yes We chose it as it was near to my Son and family who live in Plymouth and this allowed us to visit them. It would have been nice if visitors were allowed on site as they could then have visited us.

Not for us

This site gets lots of favourable reviews, but it is not for us. The approach road has some challenging narrow stretches and we met a bus on the way in. Luckily we were next to a gateway otherwise I am not sure how that would have played out. The site pitches are laid out in rows facing down the hill. Ok, I get it but it is so formal and uninspired. Not only that, but we chose pitch 33 and discovered that pitch 7 had been moved and located right in front of us - so a spoiled view. Now that was also a challenge when the time came to hook up to leave. I have never known such a situation. We did walking and cycling from the site. The 7 mile walk along the coast path to Wembury has to be our least favourite coast path walk - and we have done a lot. Unfortunately not really one for us.

Brilliant little site

We are almost at the end of a week here. We chose the site because it didn't have any facilities and thought it should be peaceful. We were not disappointed. The site overlooks Plymouth sound, as the name implies, and has fantastic views of the Sound and Cornwall beyond as well as Dartmoor in the opposite direction. The wardens are really helpful and friendly too! You can be on the South West Coast Path at Bovisand Beach in around 15 minutes. We walked in both directions (on different days!) Left to Wembury returning across the fields, and right to Mount Batten catching the ferry into Plymouth. Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers are only a short drive away where you can walk along the banks of the Yealm and round Gara Point for yet more spectacular views. We will definitely return.

Suited Our Needs Perfectly

We chose this site because of its proximity to the South West Coastal Path which I am gradually walking. It is a basic site (no facilities) but the location is second to none with a glorious view over Plymouth Sound. The approach road is narrow in places but there are numerous spots to pass - the final right turn also needs care if you are a wide/long outfit. Friendly wardens who keep the site clean and tidy. Great dog walk and a field for children to run around in. Pitches towards the back of the site are very level and many give a view over the sea. We were there during a spell of very windy weather (60 plus mph) - do take heed of the forecast if you are putting up an awning. Plenty of walking from the site with a small shop along the road for basics such as milk, bread, papers. Whilst we were there, a chap brought up a young eagle owl and it was fascinating to watch it flying round and chat to him about it. WiFI seemed to work OK and there was a good mobile signal (EE). Highly recommended site.

Perfect location overlooking the sea

What a location! On a cliff top overlooking Plymouth Sound. Great views. Also sheep and lambs in the neighbouring field to entertain you. The facilities are limited but were everything we needed. The site is quite exposed so bear this in mind if the weather forecast is windy. The approach road is narrow in places (and we did meet the bus going the other way - but they waited for us!) but is passable, particularly if not towing. Plymouth isn’t far away and there are local beaches. The staff were helpful and everything felt very Covid safe.
