A wonderful sunshine week.

A lovely caravan site run by the very pleasant and helpful warden. I congratulated him on the immaculate information room not knowing that it had been in very poor condition last year. We pitched our caravan and awning on the grass which was in perfect condition. It was a pleasure to be at Whitby and we shall not hesitate to return and recommend it to friends.

Beware the Mozzies(be prepared)

Just returned from a wonderful 5 day break(using my free night voucher),courtesy of the club magazine Thank You .The only downside at the site was the amount of Mozzies which seemed to be hungry when they saw my flesh. I was lucky ? to have only got bitten by 120 of the blighters. On returning home I visited my doctor who gave me tablets to stop the itching but the side effects are not very pleasant . PLEASE TAKE CARE

Quiet and Restful

Just got home from 7 days on this beautiful site. The site was Very clean and tidy and pitches were a good size.Wardens work hard to keep the site in beautiful condition.Grass was very well looked after and cleanliness was second to none. The dog walk was in the woods which my Black labrador loved.Only problem was the tv signal was off and on at night. Shop on site stocked lovely ice cream which we enjoyed in the beautiful weather. Close to Whitby and local shops only 5 minutes away. Will be going again soon.

A lovely site

We have just returned from five nights at this site. What a superb site. The wardens are extremely helpful and very friendly. The site is well cared for and the plants bring a nice bit of colour. It's a great location, on top of the moor but only a short drive from the beach. Our son loved the crazy golf. It's the most peaceful site we have been to but still allowing the children to play and have a good time.  We would love to visit again. The only thing I can mark it down on is no toilet and shower facilities, but we knew this when we booked and were prepared.

Tranquility

A lovely site, well laid out and surrounded by trees with plenty of walks from the site.  Our dog loved it!  The wardens are very friendly and helpful.  Superb fish and chips available on Friday nights.  Excellent spot for visiting all the local sights.  Great for a break away from it all.

Great start for us

We picked up our first van on a Thursday and was booked in here from the Friday. Being complete caravaning noobies we didn't know what to expect, the site was easy enough to find, location is very rural. We checked in and I told the woman this was our first time and she couldn't have been more helpfull, overall the staff seem very friendly and helpfull. The site shop has the basics needed, the site was very clean and tidy, we will certainly book in again soon.

SITE WITH NO WATER

LOVELY SITE ON THE MOORS ONLY PROBLEM WHEN WE STAYED THE WATER PUMP FAILED IN THE WATER BORE HOLE NO MAINS WATER AND NO BACK UP SYSTEM TWO AND A HALF DAYS WITHOUT MUCH WATER WARDENS PROMISED WATER BOWSER WOULD TURN UP EACH DAY BUT NON CAME SUGGEST THAT THE CARAVAN CLUB PUT THEIR HAND IN THEIR POCKET AND INSTALL A SPARE SET UP AND PROPER ALARM SYSTEM WIFE SAID IF WATER DID NOT TURN UP SOON SHE WOULD MAKE ME SLEEP OUTSIDE WITH THE GNATS

Comment from The Club

Thank you for leaving a review.  I have been in touch with the Wardens at the site and they have explained that the site was without drinking water from 6pm on Tuesday evening until 10am on Thursday morning.  To overcome the difficult situation the wardens purchased bottled water which was delivered personally to each outfit that evening and again the following morning.  I also understand that the office was kept open all day on the Wednesday so that members had the opportunity to call by and collect more water should they need it.  The Caravan Club apologises for any inconvenience caused but occasionally these unexpected events happen and we rely on our Wardens to handle the situation as best they can when this occurs.  I trust this helps to answer some of your concerns.

Superb Location

My wife and I love this site.  On a recent visit water levels fell very low but the wardens worked very hard to ensure all campers had water for essentials (tea and coffee) by delivering bottled water.  A big thank you to them. The site has no facilities other than electric hook-up but is ideally situated for good walking and visiting Whitby, Scarborough, North York Moors Railway etc. If you visit this site the tea-rooms (garden) at Foss Falls, just a short walk away, is a must. The cakes are home made and all food is excellent. Another recommended walk is to take the train from Grosmont to Goathland and walk back along the old rail route.  Conveniently situated about half way and a short de-tour from the track, is a pub well worth visiting at May Beck - Birch Hall Inn.  The beer is good as are the locally produced pork pies.

Comment from The Club

The wardens from North Yorkshire Moors Caravan Club Site have been in touch and want to thank you for your kind comments regarding the recent water problem.  As you know the wardens at all our sites work extemely hard to overcome any difficulties should the unexpected arise and they do their utmost to ensure your stay goes as smoothly as possible.

The Moors the better

Set on the magnificent Yorkshire Moors this site offers everything one could want except the toilet block which we new weren't included well before we arrived. Water and waste points were plentiful and generally within easy reach. Vans and Motorhomes were set in small clusters among the many trees. This was a very idyllic and peaceful site even when we visited at the start of the school holidays. Attractions such as Whitby and Scarborough were within easy reach as was the exceptional North Yorkshire Railway running the Sir Nigel Gresley during our week there. Eating houses were plentiful and reasonably priced, particularly in the more outlying areas. Local routes present motorists with challenges not normally encountered, narrow lanes and very steep hills. Visitor should be wary of the many 1in 3 hills and stick to the Caravan Site recommended route when approaching or leaving. The wardens were really friendly and helpful particularly when the water ran out!

What a transformation!

When we last visited this site after a number of visits we vowed never to return! It was run down to the extreme, pitches were overgrown with weeds, the grassed areas were uncut and rutted where cars had driven over them and having watched the warden berate and abuse an elderly motorhome member we decided enough was enough. This week we found ourselves with a spare three nights and decided to once again try North Yorkshire Moors. Are we glad we did what a transformation. The site is a credit to the wardens/voluntary wardens who clearly have put a penomenomal amount of work, effort and time into the site. Gone are the weeds, gone are the ruts and their pleasant demeanour bodes well for the future. The transformation can not have been easy and it seems the club have two wardens (not forgetting the volunteers) who are prepared to go the extra mile.  This is a site without a toilet/shower block, if you, are happy to use your own facilities give this site a visit. I am sure you will not be disappointed. I do hope management of the CC will pass on to the wardens our thanks for once more making this a site to be proud of.
