Now, I would not usually use a site like this, especially during school holidays, normally I would prefer one of the Forestry Commission minimum facility sites, but due to Covid, all closed for this season. But it goes to show how wrong you can be.Pitched in the Spitfire area, on a large hard standing pitch. With peace and quiet on our pitch.Excellent arrival entrance with staff member directing.
Walks to the Homesly enclosure, and Puttles Bridge,Avon beach, Exbury Gardens all visited from site within 30 mins.
Couple of minor points, luckily we were away from the rat run of children on bikes and scooters, but re entering site, the hedging by the Centenary garden, makes the corner blind, we were met by children cycling head on to me.Luckily a brake and a swerve by the children on bikes missed me.
Also it’s great fun watching Caravanners drive around and around and around trying to decide what pitch to pick.
Cannot speak of the Covid toilet arrangements, as used our own, but did see the queue’s outside the blocks.
All in all the Club have done a fantastic job on this site, in an area normally so popular,I have stayed on various Club sites over the years, and this is up with the best.
First time out this year
The site was wonderful and COVID friendly as were the staff. Beautiful area of the country and would love to go back
Lovely stay in New Forest. First outing this year.
We stayed here recently and had a lovely stay. All the staff were very helpful and friendly and doing their best to keep everyone safe by following government guidelines. Initially when we arrived bands were missing from the buckets to use toilet block or on one occasion I had a band, however all 3 showers were in use and toilet, but this settled down and after that I never had to wait to use shower/toilet block and bands were available (just made sure I had a shower late afternoon, when it was less busy). Always clean and replenished and plenty of hand sanitiser
Think most people we're forgetting to put the bands back (some keeping them). There were lots of children mixing between units, but as I overheard them say "children can't get coronavirus! ".
All in all a great time and the club cannot do anymore to help keep people safe. Individuals neex to be responsible and respect others.
Lots to do in New Forest and beyond.
Lovely stay in the New Forest
This was our first break in the motorhome since the sites opened and we had a very relaxing and enjoyable break in some hot and sunny weather. There were lots of Covid19 safety precautions in place and we had no issues with any of them. The wristband system worked reasonably well, although some people forgot to return the bands to the buckets. The two unisex toilets to one side of the block were always available even if there were queues for the showers and toilets. If there was one criticism of the facilities, that would be that they require better forced ventilation to remove the 'unpleasant odours'!
Given the trying circumstances of Covid we were very happy with the site.
Great site for a surprising quiet holiday
This was our first visit to a club site, we were very impressed with all aspects of our stay. The staff were very helpful and the site facilities were excellent. We were very impress with the COVID safety features in place, hand sanitizers outside all the toilet and washroom facilities, clear signage and evidence of regular thorough cleaning, the wristband on entering showers etc keeping the numbers safe. We did not really use the facilities and I think most people were using their own services but this was not a problem. The site was clean and tidy. We were surprised that although the site was very busy how quiet it was in the evening and at night. We had a vey peacefull stay. We bought a cycle map from the shop and were able to easily cycle to the local village to the coop and we ate in the 3 Tuns pub (we had to book a table in the evening) highly recommended. We also cycled into Christchurch along the number 2 Cycle route, easy cycling and well signposted. A lovely stay and we hope to return. My only criticism is that pitches are not allocated, driving round in the rain on the seemingly complicated one way system was annoying trying to find an empty pitch. We would prefer to choose a pitch on booking in.
Great Location, Big Site
This is a great site for visiting the New Forest and beach locations. I know the Forest well and this is a great site for cycling from. The site is vast. Of course after lock down we all want to get out and about. It was very full. I didn’t like driving round searching for a pitch. If only we could of been told which pitches were available. Can’t that be done these days by computer? Other people were also saying they had driven round and round the site. I would imagine there was well over 500 caravans and motorhomes. The wrist band system ( take one on entering the toilet block put it back in sterilised jar when leaving ) didn’t work. I think people were just forgetting to do it. The site was very clean and the staff worked hard. I loved the fact you could get takeaways on the site for most days. A great spot on a disused American WW2 airbase. We will go again.
Overbooked considering limited facilities
Site was OK, nothing memorable. I’m not a fan of large sites like this, but it was my only option in the area. Very little shelter, quite windswept for sitting outside the van.
But the big issue right now is that the restricted numbers allowed in the amenities blacks haven’t been matched with a reduction in capacity.
The limits seem far too low, with people queueing for empty toilets whilst the showers are full. Maybe removing the band system would help as the blocking off of alternate cubicles limits capacity anyway.
Something as minor as this can ruin a break, no chance of a lie in, you had to be up at 7am or earlier to avoid the chaos!
Situation made worse by people wandering off with bands, or leaving them in the showers.
Reluctant to book sites whilst these silly measures are in place.
Some positives, some negatives.
The site has usual standard of CAMC facilities, which are (as you would expect) clean and well kept by wardens. Good walking and cycling, from site. Onsite shop, and, village (Bransgore) shops, including small Coop Supermarket approximately two miles walk or cycle. Now, the not so good. Site is very big, too big for our taste. General rules (eg 5mph speed limit, supervision of children) do not appear to be policed. Covid rules widely ignored. It is probably a reasonable site, if you avoid school holidays.
Lovely, well kept site
On arrival, although very busy and a queue to the road, we did not have to wait very long.
Well organised team on reception. The pitches as always were in great condition.
Soon had everything sorted and feet up with a glass of wine. Very quiet in Spitfire area.
Easy reach of the Mudeford beach and Milford, a lovely walk to Hurst Castle along beach
A very nice post-lockdown break.
In need of some landscaping
Stayed here with my daughter and grandchildren a couple of weeks after they had reopened. Check in worked fine with the new procedures in place and we found a pitch and set up camp. I understand that this was a airfield some time ago and to be honest that’s not a good thing. The site doesn’t have many hedges or mature trees on it so has you are driving around all you see is row after row of white boxes with the occasional Motorhome thrown in. The centenary garden is very small and rather underwhelming. The whole site needs landscaping to make it look more interesting. The site wardens worked hard at keeping everything clean and spotless. The arm band system in place at the toilet block seemed a good idea if everyone kept to it and or read the instruction leaflet you are given at check in. Apparently some people keep a arm band or as I found just wander in because they haven’t read what is going on. Maybe more signage at the entrance to the block and if found to have kept a arm band they may be asked to leave. Most annoying was the WiFi again. My daughter and I payed 11.00 each for it and were lucky if during the day we got more than a couple of hours of WiFi. This site is not in the middle of nowhere so it can’t be hard to get a good signal to it. If you go on a site and pay for a service you expect to get it, but that’s not the case on a few C&M campsites I have been on. It’s a bit cheeky asking people to pay foe something that they can’t then get.
The fish and chip van and the pizza van that turns up are worth a visit and there’s lot to see in the area.
