One of the better sites

I think that this is one of the better sites in the network. Have been before and would visit again. You can walk to Thorney Hill crossroads and get a bus into Christchurch however it runs only Mon, Wed, Friday with limited times. Last time we went they had a really useful set of directions for cycling into Christchurch via a mix of country roads and bike lanes however this is not available now and we couldn't remember the route. There is also a tea room to walk to in about 30 minutes called Robins Nest contained within a garden nursery on the road to Bransgore. Had a really good pizza from the visiting caterers to the site. Just a good clean and friendly site.

Take your bike!

We stayed on the site at the beginning of August and found it to be in a lovely spot with wild New Forest Ponies all around the area outside the site - not far from the site there are paths that you can ride on (not smooth cycling paths, so be aware that this is rougher than those lovely cycle lanes). Riding through the forest can also be hilly but do try to go deeper, either walking or pushing the bike if the hill is too much - we turned around to see a beautiful white pony emerge from woodland and walk on to the path behind us - so quiet and we were really remote - it was beautiful - occasional stretches where the ponies have laid down across the road or are standing across the road and you have to move around - so lovely - if you love nature and horses then you are in for a treat if you visit this site. We walked to Bransgore - not much there but a small Tesco - lovely walk - quiet country lanes, but took us a long time to walk there ( about 40 minutes) and then to get back again - but the weather was lovely and we enjoyed exploring. There is a bus stop outside the site but this is a tourist bus (you pay about £17 or something similar and you can get on and off - we didn't want to do that and so had to drive off in our motorhome (something we try to avoid if we can). However, we were able to get parked at Bournemouth and had a fabulous couple of days visiting there. We found parking on the roads above the town and walked down (I want to say St Peters roundabout, but that could be the wrong name - but the parking was about £8.00 for the day, which we thought was reasonable. Bournemouth is large so we were able to walk along the front and visit a couple of restaurants - Vesuvius on the front was basic and nice - not much of a selection unless you like burgers / pizza, but we made a feast from a selection of small dishes and enjoyed it. We also walked to the top of Alum Chine to shops and restaurants there. So we were pleased with the New Forest location but had expected to be able to get a bus to coastal locations. However, with visiting food vans you don't really need to travel off if you don't want to - the fish and chips were fabulous - we would return just for those! Very reasonable and good portions. Enjoy!

Damn that cattle grid

Friendly welcome from wardens. Although we arrived early there were no hardstandings available. As we found out later, people appear to be allowed onto the site before 1 pm as advertised. Not really fair. Found pitch on grass but grass was uncut and not up to normal Club standards. Had better kept grass on rally fields before now. Site is large and was very full. Our pitch was next to the main road and a cattle grid which made plenty of noise and at night too. Although we were there for more than a week we hardly saw the wardens other than for daily emptying of bins. This probably explained why the site does not appear to be up to normal Club standards. I cannot comment on loos as we used our own facilities due to Covid Don't take your smart phone - no phone signal, no 4G and no wi-fi. Probably  won’t return to site as there are better sites out there. Very disappointed with standards.

Brilliant Site

Excellent site in great location stayed for two weeks and enjoyed every thing about the site. Showers and toilets were spotless band system worked well. Lots of families on the site but noise levels were very low our pitch backed on to the playing field but didnt have any problems with this. Fish and Chip van was great this came three times a week. Plenty of walks for the dogs. Already booked this site for next year.

Excellent well located site

We were greeted by friendly, helpful and welcoming staff. The pitch was level and well maintained. The Covid precautions were excellent and we felt very safe. The facilities were excellent with frequent cleaning. On one day there was no hot water but this was soon rectified. Christchurch and Lyndhurst are within easy rach and the visiting pizza (2 nights) and fish and chips (3 nights) were excellent.

Great location but......

Site was well located and clean. Whilst it was busy, the site wasn't noisy. Facilities were clean although the CV19 queuing system using bands didn't really work and was frequently ignored by adults of all ages....interestingly it was the children who seemed to adhere to the system more than adults! The staff were ok but not particularly helpful. It was a particularly windy day and i reported that the awning of a caravan next to me was damaged and blowing and banging against their van. The immediate response at reception was that the site staff would probably see it on their rounds and that they couldn't do anything about it. I suggested that they probably had a contact number for the owners and they could call, which they did. The owners returned in time to prevent damage to their caravan but honestly it would have been nice to have seen a little more proactive care.

Friendly site in a beautiful area

Friendly site with helpful wardens...recommendations on pitches with good o2 reception as working from the van & upgraded to a serviced pitch when one became available. Clean facilities & plenty of them. Good showers! Play area for kids too. Quiet at night. Plenty of walks/ cycle routes from the site.

Disappointed

We have stayed here on several occasions but find it difficult to book a whole week, due to Motorhome using for one or two night stays. Staff we found very unfriendly and toilet blocks not as clean as should be with Covid. We did not think tents were allowed but found that there were a couple of caravans with tents on their pitch as well. Always thought it was caravan and awning pitches. The tents were less than 3m away from them. It’s sad to say but I think the Caravan club has lost its way since allowing Motorhome as well. We have been caravaning now for over 30 yrs.

Disappointing with unfriendly wardens.

What a disappointment this site turned out to be. The wardens were far from friendly, not even a smile or a hello as they passed our caravan or in passing generally. We witnessed and had the unpleasant fortune to have been on the receiving end of one of there petty rules. On returning from our morning dog walk quite early a young child with her father was touching a flower pot man arrangement outside the reception. Suddenly the Warden manager appeared from outside her caravan with her dog and told the father quite abruptly not to let his child touch the flower pot men as they were fragile and would break and then walked off, she did not even give the man a chance of a reply or to apologise! Why not advise in a nice welcoming tone instead of using a head teacher voice? We were pitched in number 160 the very last hand standing pitch at the end of a one way section. On returning one afternoon I totally missed the no entry sign and I was literally 5 feet into the road next to our parking bay, not at all busy, no other cars in the vicinity. The next thing I saw was a warden emptying the bins next to our pitch waving his finger in a very aggressive manner raising his eyes in the air and circling his hand for me to go back and drive right around the one way system. I indicated that we were next to our caravan with my hand and he just kept waving his finger, It was rude. why not politely walk over to the car and say "Hi not sure if you were aware but this is one way system I understand that if anyone else sees you they will copy and before you now it everyone will be going the wrong way". I was just taken back how rude it is to wag a finger at someone. About an hour later we were sitting next to the caravan outside and low and behold the wardens electric buggy zoomed right past us past the no entry sign and stopped by the bins, going the wrong way around. One rule, comes to mind.....The toilets and showers were disgraceful, far from clean. The toilets regularly had faeces splattered around the bowl, in the bowl and urine on the seats. I am not saying that straight after they were not clean but cleanliness certainly was not maintained at all times. We can only compare the cleanliness with this site to our first site we stayed at in Buxton but we were so impress with the toilet and shower block and the cleanliness there compared to this site which was totally the opposite. We thought all Caravan and Motorhome Sites were of a high standard? I used the same shower cubicle one day after each other and in the soap tray I saw a curly hair, not unusual for a shower if it had been just used, but to find the same hair in the same position the next day is totally unacceptable especially during these times. Social distancing at this site was non existent, on an evening stroll to look around the site we witnessed 21 people having a drink party in one awning! Clearly this site needs some attention. Such a shame as our previous Buxton site experience was 5 star!

August 2020 Disappointed

So after things had gone downhill at Brighton, we didn’t hold much hope for another big site. However I am glad to say we were not disappointed. The staff were abrupt to the point of being rude. The site was full to the brim, the one way system around the toilets and wash areas was totally ignored. I had to complain as the dog walk area at one point was full of kids on their bikes, as this happend a few times i can only assume my complaints were ignored. and towards the end of our stay they had just ripped down the play area closed signs and used them. we had kids running round our caravan on foot and on bikes. A first world problem I know but the WiFi was terrible and we were less than 20m from a booster tower. we have paid for the annual subscription so I hope this is a one off. A number of vans and motorhomes had two awnings and two cars on them encroaching on to the next pitches, only once did I see the staff challenge owners. A disappointing site in what is a beautiful part of the country. We will not be going back So far we have visited 3 club sites and only one is worth a revisit. Not a good start to my caravan club membership.
