wardens were nice, but the site was just ok, the pics show a lovely sandy beach, but stones everywhere, had to carry the dogs over them to get to the water, had to try a few pitches to get one that my levellers could handle, nothing here...would i go back 100% NO.
Fantastic site in a wonderful setting. Magnificent views over Luce Bay and the surrounding area is so beautiful. Several wonderful nearby gardens to visit. In particular I would recommend Glenwhan Gardens. Stunning! The site is mostly grass pitches which are well spaced out. However during our visit the site had major electrical problems. The mains bollard we were connected to blew completely one evening, so ourselves and 2 other caravans were without electricity until mid-afternoon the next day. Lots of people had issues with their electrics. Could be because the site was full. I think this needs properly investigated.
This is a lovely site with large, well-spaced out pitches separated by gorse and other bushes, offering a measure of seclusion. Beautiful views of the bay. Delighted to find there were so many birds singing in the bushes - we had a resident yellowhammer who sang his heart out every morning for us as well as linnets. Beautiful walks along the coast either on the shore or through fabulous gorse- enclosed coastal path. Lots of birds to be seen on the shore and in the bushes - we only stayed two nights but saw turnstones, ringed plovers and lots of whitethroat. Great place for birders. The couple managing the site were lovely and really helpful, the site itself immaculately clean. Comfortably large shower cubicles.
Nowhere walkable to buy a paper or provisions so recommend you come stocked up for the length of your stay as the shops in the nearby villages are small.
A trip to the Mull of Galloway is the highlight of a stay here. The last part of the road to the Mull is single track and very narrow - and long - and may be difficult for very large vans. Well worth a visit to it, though we were disappointed by the lack of birds on the Mull itself - it is on an accessible RSPB site. Do take the circular coast path north from the car park by the lighthouse, starting from the tea rooms and through the gate which has a warning that the coast may be dangerous. There is plenty of distance away from the edge and the obvious, easy path follows a wire fence. You will be rewarded with stunning steep cliffs with nesting guillemots, razorbills and cormorants (we went in May). The path turns right through a field with cattle and crosses the road you drove up to the car park. We crossed over to the path back on the other side of the Mull but it was a much harder walk on narrow stony paths and we didn't see much of the coast - which was nowhere near as interesting as the first half of the walk - as we had to keep a close look at where we were putting our feet. Also very boggy in places. An easier option - and one we should have preferred ourselves had we known - is to walk back along the access road to the lighthouse when you reach it.
There is an easy two mile walk from the site along a quiet small road (we were passed by one car in total there and back) bordered by lovely countryside, crossing the peninsular to Port Logan, a pretty little village with a nice bay, very quiet and unspoilt. We saw gannets diving and ate the best ice-cream I have ever eaten from the van by the shore. Other than that, take a drive to charming Port Patrick up the coast (we stopped off there on our way down to the site) - it really is lovely and we had the added bonus of seeing black guillemots in the harbour. They sell good Scots pies (mutton/haggis/steak - all delicious) in the local bakery there.
Not a great deal of variety to do at this site if you want to see as much as possible, but more than enough for our two night stay and we had a lovely stay. I can highly recommend it.
First time to this site and WOW! It’s a perfect place to get away from it all it’s peaceful beautiful and isolated. We just spent 4 nights here we had a pitch at the front with a sea view ,we walked along the beach, fished off the rocks at Myroch point went to Port Patrick for the day which is worth a visit. Warden was so friendly and welcoming,we will definitely be back 👍
This is a lovely site in a beautiful corner of the country and blessed with an excellent management team.
There are excellent opportunities for walking, cycling and any beach-based activities.
There is a coastal footpath that runs right by the site and the Arwell Pond Walk is recommended. It is also possible to walk to Port Logan, less than 2 miles away on the west side of the peninsula, along a very quiet lane.
Cycling is very pleasant along the quiet local lanes and the ride to the Mull of Galloway is recommended.
I feel sure we will be back.
We stayed here 3 nights one of the best sites we have stayed at staff very friendly and helpful
Site behind beach and surrounded by broom so lovely smell on pitches which were well spaced out
Great walks on beach and some lovely places to explore
We will come back to this site.
We spent 4 nights at this excellently situated site. You should go on on your electric bikes to the Lighthouse and call into the felt makers art studio. The staff were excellent and friendly and everything was in place for a safe stay just a pity some of the people had no care about the COVID virus. We thoroughly enjoyed our first outing in our new campervan.
Just had 10 days here, weather a bit wet, and most of the pitches are on grass, but don't worry, ground is very firm with beach stones under the grass.
Good for dogs, beach easily accessible, some pitches very isolated so easy to find a quiet place to enjoy your stay. Lots to see locally, most places are open despite Covid, Logan Gardens, Mull of Galloway restaurant, lighthouse closed though.
Wardens working very hard to keep the facilities clean. We used our own shower and toilet.
One of our favourite sites.
Had two nights in our motor home at New England, Great view right on the coastline, a bit breezy but nice and refreshing.. Site is well laid out with plenty of space between pitches either hardstanding or grass. Toilet are spotless and only two people allowed in at a time which is very reassuring regarding Covid. The only negative would be the service area for the motor homes, it would be better if there was a designated area for this as it can cause a little congestion, also hand sanitizer at the bins would be a good idea. Would definitely return to this site.
Other members have reviewed the qualities and opportunities offered by NEBay, but I thought it might be helpful to consider the site in light of Covid-19 restrictions, following our 21 night stay. The site has a number of advantages. First, its scale - a large, well spread, generously spaced site where even at busy times, seclusion is possible. Second, the benefit of two well-positioned communal blocks that are twice-daily fully managed for Covid-19 by four experienced wardens. Third, location in a sparsely populated peninsular offering a variety of coastal and inland walks, or short car trips to places of interest, such as the botanical gardens, Port Logan and Mull of Galloway lighthouse.
